if you had used negotiation skills you'd get a chance to recruit them anyway. there's an entire branch of skills that exist solely to help with demon demands, preventing them from leaving or changing their mind when indecisive/angry.
Like I just said, I use those skills, not saying the game as a whole is bad because of it.

Yeah, in 4 it’s much more random. Apocalypse did away with the “TEEHEE WRONG ANSWER” bullshit, a lot of answers are sensible and set in stone, and also added a system where if you failed enough times across different battles the demon would join you “because it was familiar with you”
I wouldn't mind, and even enjoy the difficulty, if demifiend dying wasn't an automatic game over.

If it wasn't for Persona 5, this would be the easiest Megaten game. The moment you understand the importance of buffs and debuffs, there's no challenge, ever. Still a good game.
