>game made in Unreal Engine
>has a respectably-sized modding community
>literally nobody is interested in fixing the physics issues, such as jump height tied to framerate; they would rather make texture/model swaps ad nauseam
Is modding dead?

No Cynder, no buy.
I was under the impression that the modding scene for this game was basically dead
>why do people make simple mods using readily available and well documented tools instead of reverse engineering and modifying complex compiled code?
yeah it sure is a real mystery.
this is a problem where a lot of us who aren't modders ourselves just have a pure consooomer mentality of "why aren't they giving me the things I want" be we have no appreciation of what that even entails
In my totally absolutely not limited experience, it seems like under 20 games all time have endless mods that continue to this day and the rest either have no mods or a few useless mods.
why aren't le indie retro gamer devs making games like this??? I loved shit like Spyro, Jersey Devil, Croc, Banjo
They literally are though, just search 3D platformers on steam. The one I'll shill is Pseudoregalia, because it's cheap and has great controls and movement.
>The one I'll shill is Pseudoregalia, because it's cheap and has great controls and movement.
nice assets too
i'm pretty sure there's a spyro-like being made right now that started as a spyro fangame but it's become it's own thing
It has some kind of bat character I think
Zera: Myths Awaken?
Like other anon said its called zera, but the dev has put it on hiatus. Demo is still available on itch, but considering this person has never released a full game I wouldn't hold your breath.
Flit the fruitbat is also coming as some point, and is made by the clive n wrench dev:

Zera was pretty cool but they need to make the MC less ungodly hideous
I think its kinda cute. The only thing that looks bad is the little fricking thing? that follows her around. Idek what its supposed to be.
its me
But what *are* you? Since the game is about dreams and shit I assume its supposed to be some little dream sprite thing. But it looks bad, like somebody flattened it out with a rolling pin.
that green bat thing is uglier than zera
Fixing the physics of a game is no easy task but the physics aren't the only problem with the remake that needs fixing if you wanted to make it better than the original trilogy
While I think Zera is cool, I'm still so sad we'll never get to see the Spyro fangame he was making because he got a C&D
The game was looking SO GOOD
3D platformers? There's a decent amount out there.
play corn kidz 64
You're not looking hard enough. itch.io has quite a few.
indie is a dirty word to most anons here
nobody here plays itch games
True. Most anons here don't play games. At all. They just b***h about them.
all I play is minesweeper while listening to podcasts
I only come here to talk shit
>indie is a dirty word to most anons here
Not true, I'm pretty sure 99.9% of stuff on itchio is garbage though so I don't browse it.
you're not very adventurous are you?
they may not be of the highest quality, but literal-who indie games often have more interesting mechanics than you'd ever find in a AAA title.
I play indie games on steam, I don't play indie games whipped up by literally whos in two days in gamemaker
itch games are often made for the fun of it, rather than a profit incentive.
it costs money to publish on steam. on itch it's free. So you see weird ass shit there more often
Any recommendations to try?
>why aren't le indie retro gamer devs making games like this???
3d platformers are the hardest games to make
3d platformers have a vocal minority of fans
the market was oversaturated on the N64 era and then it died fast because most people weren't really into all these games besides the biggest like mario
yeah pretty much
>game looks like a mishmash of Disney/nu blizzard assets with all of the soul of Spyro games sucked out
>"WHY IS NOBODY MODDING THIS PILE OF SHIT? MODDING MUST BE DEAD BWAAAH BWAAAH!"
there's no reason to play the demakes when the originals still exist
the originals do not have mouse support
good.
spyro is not meant to be played with a mouse and keyboard.
What kind of cretin plays a 3D platformer with mouse and keyboard?
Third worlders who cant afford a controller
>literally nobody is interested in fixing the physics issues, such as jump height tied to framerate;
You have no idea how difficult it is to decouple that shit.
For reference the SM64 modding community has been around for damn near 30 years, and is arguably one of the biggest around. They realized it was just easier to decomp the game from scratch than try and mod a better frame rate into a compiled game.
Managing framerate is one of the most frustrating parts of gamedev in my limited experience. I completely understand why some developers just prefer to lock that shit at 60 and tell homosexuals who want to push 240 without breaking the game logic to just eat shit and die mad.
Delta time will help you a lot, but its not a perfect solution and sometimes you will still need to do some fudging of numbers to get effects right.
In older games it was even worse though, because your physics and logic loop were the same thing. If you mod say majoras mask for example to run at 60fps you've actually tripled the speed of fricking everything. Suddenly the clock moves 3 times as fast, cutscenes go triple the speed, and npcs and enemies move so quick you can hardly interact with them.
Locking it at 30/60/whatever was fine and makes sense for older games on consoles where you know exactly what hardware the game is being played on.
There is no excuse for that shit now, especially in an engine like Unreal. Use delta time
The devs were definitely lazy, but these are the same people who assfricked the art style so I'm not really surprised.
The main point is once the genie is out the bottle you can't just put it back in, short of a complete decompilation.
That's true. Short of re-writing a bunch of shit the best you can do is hack it to target specific framerates
>Check out PCGamingWiki
>All those issues with high frame rate
I knew I wasn't crazy.
This is a good example of a remake. Also,
>Human men
homie how bad is yo rig you be dropping frames like lmao just upgrade yo PC like sheeeit just buy a PS5 lmaooooo
>buys a ps5
>game performs worse on it
Higher framerates lower jump height, not the other way around.
>such as jump height tied to framerate
the frick is that why my latest replay at 100fps even from a neutral max height jump some of my hovers still wouldn't make it?
they already fricked charge gliding
Where do I get the mods to fix all the models and shit
you can't fix physics in unreal
That's why I'm hoping MS eventually adds FPS boost to this game.
