It was surprisingly fun.
I've only played a couple games this year so I can't say if it's goty, but I was surprised at how little bullshit fluff was in it, it was just a lot of gameplay and story.

I enjoyed it, same with all of Remedy's games. I went back to Max Payne 1 after I heard James passed away and it still holds up, a testament to Remedy's design sensibilities.

I thought it would be gay because of Saga but I fricking loved it. Saga is a bad character but the rest of the game is so fricking good that it didn't bother me, she wasn't a mouth piece for a fat white woman either she was just boring and didn't seem to give a shit about her daughter.
I will say her levels are really good and fun, it's literally just Saga as a character that I have a problem with.
I liked Saga's character better than Jessie from Control but that is a really low bar.
Alan was great though.
Yeah I need to replay Control, it was fun and did some cool stuff but it didn't really click for me like AW2.
I loved pretty much every character except Saga; Door, Koskela brothers, Rose, everyone at the nursing home, Breaker, etc. I guess Estevez was lame, she was boring as frick too. Maybe she'll be interesting with more time in the Night Springs expansion.
I liked the saga levels more too, because you were in the town wandering. Wasn't big fan of the "dark place".

I preferred the dark place, myself. Going back to Saga was kind of a relief, I wish the shadow enemies were more diverse. It seemed like like they maybe wanted to do more in there, or will with the expansions. The hub was kind of lame but I loved the hotel and theater.

I can't remember, I played it at launch. Definitely need to replay, it looks like they wanted to or want to do something with Zane. I know they had flocks of birds even in AW1.
Saga is just kind of boring but I don't get why everyone is acting like she's as bad as the b***h from Forspoken or something. she's just kind of dull she's not horrible though.
No she's not one of those characters at all, it's just nu-Ganker seething without knowing anything about the game.
I'd say my biggest complaint is she seems abnormally unphased by a lot of things. Once she starts getting scared and losing her cool she becomes much more enjoyable.

I think so, combat is like a more refined RE2R with the flashlight mechanic from AW1. Adding horror elements helped immensely.
I never finished the first one because it was so boring, but 2 I finished so in my books it's better.

Way better. The combat's minimal, but the encounters are also very sparse so each encounter feels tense instead of Max Payne lite. There's also a lot more spooky shit in this one, definitely. It does every type of horror you can imagine and it does all of them really well.
My best friend didn't like the first game or Control but he ended up really enjoying Alan Wake 2. the story was a lot more interesting and gameplay wise it's a lot more fun since survival horror was more his thing.

1) It contradicts her established design. It's a clash of aesthetics. Alex Casey doesn't have this problem. Because he wasn't raceswapped. Raceswapping a character makes the continuation of games look ugly and distorted when Quantum Break is taken in consideration. Which is impossible not to since all Remedy games have a strong spiritual connection to each other to the point they can be considered spiritual sequels. This makes raceswapping a character an act of desecration to the franchise as a whole.
2) It highlights the fact that Remedy are a bunch of ESG prostitutes that have no respect for their own creations. They will do anything for money even if that means destroying their own products and humiliating themselves in the process with unnecessaru interviews stating how organic and necessary those changes were and how everything aligns with their own vision. Which is pathetic because that has never been necessary until modern games started going full woke by raceswapping characters. In short, raceswapping outs them as people with no self-respect and no love for art itself. They are ESG prostitutes who are not even worth my spit. I wish them the absolute worst.
As you can see, the entire game is an insult. Not only to the player, but to art itself. It is pure goyslop for the NPC cattle masses. Refocusing on Wake, the point of Wake is that the plotpoints Wake writes in to attempt to escape and contain the dark presence are hackey. Wake is a stand in for any New York times bestselling author that pumps out a fricking stupid amount of books. Wake is Dan Brown, Stephen King, anyone that makes an excessive amount of late night talkshow runs and book tours because they just continue to pump out multiple books a year. In universe he is also solely responsible for writing his way out of bright falls.

The narrative arc doesn't get wrapped up all that well, but the thematic/metanarrative aspect of it all gets closed-off perfectly. It's pretty ballsy, and I respect that.

Keep in mind there's a new ending with new game plus and two expansions coming. I agree with you though, the ending wasn't all that satisfying because of the cliffhanger.
I hope the DLCs will be out by mid-2024 at the latest.

yea. you dont actually have to play any other remedy game before this, but aw1 and control are helpful in understanding some of the things happening. american nightmare isnt really important. also its not really garbage, but gets boring because you do the same gameplay loop 3 times in that game.
