The game is designed around people already knowing how to play. Acts in path of exile are just there to make people suffer through them to get to the interesting content. Information is made purposefully obscure and difficult to understand because the creator wants to make "the dark souls of arpgs" and tries to copy a version of Diablo 2 that never existed

The skill tree isn't the hard part of PoE to understand, it just looks big and intimidating. The real issue that people tend to run into in PoE is scaling; how to effectively scale your survivability and your damage. It really isn't enough to just get a bunch of %increased HP and %increased damage.
It's just a design trick. The tree offers very few choices at any one time. Most of which are simply generic stat increases, with more profound choices placed as long term goals that put you on a directed path. It's a relatively normal skill tree masquerading as something super complicated by the way it's presented.
Understanding PoE is like playing blackjack vs counting cards in blackjack. You could get far by just getting lucky and playing to understand how the surface level mechanics work. But to truly understand why and how the game works you'd need to go the extra mile and apply some braincells. More than any other ARPG in the market.

No, you get detrimental returns on too many % increased. Its about creating a balance between your passives and gear.
path of exile really isn't complex
Nothing is more fun than losing all creativity and forced to follow a build guide because if you try and build something yourself you'll eventually hit a wall and lose 50 hours of progress.
It's not about complexity for pic related, but it used to be a second job.

I cant get myself to play the game anymore. Nothing beats a health potion spamming pathfinder which can constantly chuck potions and be invincible. Everything else feels inferior after trying that.
The game is an addiction. Once you get off you start to wonder why you ever liked it in the first place. And that effect is completely by design.

Only time I've enjoyed skill trees like that was in Unchained Blades Rexx and that was because they were all shaped something thematic to match the characters but then you realize there's only like 5 nodes worth picking up and everything else is just pointless single digit stat filler. Similarly I'm pretty sure you could remove a good 90% of OP's pic and every single meta build wouldn't change.

How does one not die in this fricking game? I have topped elemental resists, 100% spell suppression, like 30+ block chance, evade and even immortal call on damage taken. Still get rekt by a lot of stuff and I'm just starting on maps, which I can't afford to get killed on. What's the secret.
