>what made the original so great
It is literally impossible to include that because the mere act of beating the game removes your ability to ever worry about a time limit in the series ever again. Nothing short of Pikmin 5 demanding you finish every zone in a single day (and all of them being the size of 1's zones) to see the credits will undo that state.
im so glad that pikmin 1 and 2 were put on switch so closely to 4 so more people can see how utterly full of shit homosexuals like you who are pretend the day limit in 1 is meaningful to the gameplay in any way
If it's not meaningful, why are late zoomers so scared of it?
Not the other guys, but for me it's not even the day limit in a mechanical way that makes Pikmin 1 the best, because yes it is irrelevant since the game is very easy. But the whole atmosphere that there is a sense of urgency and seeing your ship come together that makes it a better experience. Also I just think the game is better paced because of the time limit per day than Pikmin 2, because in 2 you basically spend as much time as you need down in the dungeons so not only do total days feel unlimited but any given day also feels unlimited. And I like Pikmin 2 and dungeoning, but Pikmin 1 just had the formula right from the start in my opinion even if the difficulty wasn't there. The way time is handled in 4 and the amount of content on the surface honestly was a decent compromise to enjoyers of both games even if Oatchi makes Pikmin 4 too damn easy.
LM2/3 were made by Retro Studios without any of that original EAD muscle that made LM1 so special, all Nintendo did was sign off on it
LM1 was made during this transitionary period where Nintendo finally had the tech to explore their more outlandish game concepts (Pikmin, AC) and were throwing tons of shit at the wall to see what would stick
plus modern day issues of marketability; would Nintendo really let LM1's vibe fly today?

investigations 2 is the actual best in the series, but mainline I'm tempted to agree, T&T is often said to be the best but is a bit messy in its finale and almost nothing has reached the tension seen in 1-4 with von karma and taking him down is super satisfying
What really makes 3 shit is the lack of exploration. In 1 you was in a mansion and you backtracked often once you got keys to unlock rooms. It was about exploration.
In 3 you just "go through linear rooms until you get the lift button and go to the next stage"
This is a very common thing with Nintendo specifically, they come up with these really quirky original ideas and then they get sanitized to hell and back as they turn into massive legacy franchises
The original was all about making you feel like a small piece of a living community, with the theme of "things happen while you aren't there," even the multiplayer component was based on this principle. You didn't have a lot of control over the events or other villagers, and a lack of storage space meant you really had to be choosy about what rare items were important to you and which to let go of.
The sequels keep going in the direction of capitalist hoarding simulators where you just build your ideal space exactly how you want it
>devil may cry
DMC3 and 5 shits all over >kingdom hearts
There's at least 4 games with better story and characters and at least 3 games with far better gameplay >ace attorney
TnT and Gyakuten Kenji >resident evil
Lol no, half of the series is better than 1
>kingdom hearts >There's at least 4 games with better story
The original is the only one with a coherent story that stood alone. Everything after 1 is a clusterfrick mess.
All the sequels have to rely on level gimmicks to be interesting, the original and Lost Levels is the only one mechanically strong enough to make interesting levels just by arranging existing parts
>Crash Bandicoot. 1st one was already mediocre but 2 or 3 lacked the difficulty which just made the games boring pursue of the collectathon element.
>Someone already mentioned it but Luigi's Mansion. Very soulful game which the sequels decided to completely differentiate from and pursue slapstick humor with a hideous art style.
>Rayman Origins. Rayman legends is too easy and ruins the vibe the first one had going for it. It's also uglier graphically.
>DKC. Unpopular opinion but I think DKC 1 was best. Best pacing. Best levels. DKC2 difficulty curve was too extreme and level design was more BS. Plus atmosphere wasn't as good. DKC3 mediocre.
Champaign wise Halo never outdid the original Combat Evolved. CE had the best gunplay, most satisfying guns, most well designed missions outside the copy and paste, best difficulty settings (2 was impossible on legendary and 3 was too easy) and probably the best OST as well.
Yes, to 100% the challenge mode is amazing, no one has done Distant Spring so far, but a TAS proved you can do it half a day. This game could've been so much more.
It's one of the best games ever made, the other games can't match it.
homosexuals that get stressed from a day limit will say that the copy and paste, shit balance even from a casual perspective sequel was better
2 is a betrayal of almost everything the first game stood for besides the soundtrack
>betrayal
I hate how nu-Ganker talks. It's just different game design.
i like stating my opinions boldly and authoritatively as if they are objective fact
man this is like genwunners or gsc haters but for pikmin
just play all the games theyre all fun
at least the series hasnt eaten shit massively yet like pokemon did
>theyre all fun
they are all fun and i do like 3 and 4 quite a bit but they still miss a ton of what made the original so great

3 was a pretty big miss-step and if 4 wasn't decent the series would officially be dead

To this fricking day I can't understand how the FRICK haven't they been able to outdo a fricking 20 years old tech demo
I blame 2 going in the complete opposite direction of what made 1 good.
And 3 takes 2's formula and improves on it, instead of taking 1's formula.

I should really get around to playing it already especially since it has an english translation now
fricking capcom the lazy c**ts
do it, the english translation feels 99% official besides kinda dated portal and horse show references

never played the original, started with the DS one. whats so good about it from every other entry?

Anybody who says Banjo-Kazooie is wrong and also a gay.

2 and 3 have better soundtracks IMO but yeah this gameplay is unmatched
bare witness to a take

Wii Sports resort had sword fighting. Makes it better than OG in some ways in my eyes.
