I'm assuming you mean intentionally, but I find most Japanese horror games get very silly by the end after they try to explain the plot. Ku-On comes to mind, that's a game that should've been much more abstract instead of explaining what is exactly happening.
Clock Tower 3 is also another example, but I dunno how serious they were with that one, but by the last half it's fricking hilarious how dumb it is. But I feel like the first half they actually did want you to take it seriously.
>n-n-no, wait guys, our game has uh...LE LORE! >ISN'T FUNNY? A WACKY LITTLE GAME HAVING SO MUCH LORE? >A LORE SO """""DEEP"""""?
the "x lore" meme was a mistake
>dude, dude! What if it was LORE ACCURATE >man this game sucks by every conceivable metric, but at least its true to the lore! >Hey guys check out this random passage from a lame tie in book the even the author didn't care about! >If this scene was lore accurate then Rimpy Rump the last Bimpy Bump would have totally slaughtered that guy!
Whats wrong with that. Starting off light hearted is a good idea. If your tone is serious as frick to start out with the audience will hold you to a really high standard.
problem with that is that its extremely easy to frick it up since if you start out to goofy or make it to sudden it just creates a whiplash effect while also making it far more difficult to take shit seriously
Seems that since FNAF did it and that was an accident and you Black folk cooperated back then to that phenomenon, every game does it in hopes it will spawn merchandise or discussion.
god i hate that you made this thread because this is exactly what i've been writing my romhack to be that's two weeks away from being ready to upload. im nervous i couldnt maintain the balance the way games like barkley shut up and jam gaiden and undertale had
Just upload it when you are ready, if you have more artistic integrity just start from zero but if you are that far into development just fricking do it, then start a new project improving in your writing
Loregays themselves are cancer. In general theres no reason for a simple comedic story not to get serious. Unless youre playing a Fromsoft game where everything is already fricked you cant really disrupt the status quo any more than 'everything is miserable', so you cant really get anyone attatched to anything for the obvious 'kill the puppy' moment if its the ONLY good thing in the setting.
>mordecai gets really into the lore for a setting that is about to get a game >gets it day one and plays it with rigby >enemy shows up and he starts explaining how what it is and the convoluted way they have to beat it >rigby just punches it and it dies >mordecai gets mad playing the game and realizing it wasn't accurate to the lore >wants to get a refund but rigby likes the game and wants to keep it >next day working bump into people all day who like the game, rigby even gets skips, pops, and benson into it >mordecai eventually has loses it and sends an angry letter to the company that made the game >that night a new copy of the game arrives at their doorstep with a letter explaining they actually made an accurate version of the game but ended up not releasing it to the public >mordecai invites everyone to try it so he can show him how the game was suppose to be >game comes to life and starts tearing up the park >monster start coming for them and mordecai frantically explains how to beat them >rigby just start punching them and they die because "that's what you do in the game" >everyone start beating the shit out of monsters until the big boss shows up >no one knows who he is except mordecai who explains they can never beat him and how powerful he is >he start destroying the park and is about to kill everyone >skips yells at mordecai that it's is only powerful because he believes it is >mordecai finally admits "you're lame" >big bad is defeated, things wrap up >paper flys by that has an ad for a thing rigby really likes getting a movie and he gets pumped

Easy. Just like that anon-kun. >inb4 cringe
I don't see you writing. >inb4 erp
I will NOT erp with you.
Yeah thats really it. Got to figure out my characters more. I think wanting MC to be something of a blank slate for people to self insert into has added a lot of friction for writing dialogue. Feels too unnatural for everyone to just be talking at him all the time.
>game starts off with DEEP LORE
>Game ends with DEEP LORE
somebody throw a pie for Christ sake WHERE'S THE FUNNY
>reddit show
Still waiting for the horror game that starts completely serious and spooky and only gets more comedic and lighthearted as it goes on.
Illbleed?
Dropsy
Masterpiece of a game.
Uh, Resident Evil 4 exists.
uhh i dunno anon that castle was kinda spooky!

Literally describing RE
Indigo Prophecy.
They Hunger
Lore was a mistake
And a way for shitty writers ajd game devs to make their games seem deep and story rich
>n-n-no, wait guys, our game has uh...LE LORE!

>game starts with DEEP LORE
>it isn't deep at all
kirby
Kirby lore isn't really all that deep. It's just kind of cool how much a baby game is allowed to get so visually creepy
But dude... like kirby is fighting evil satan eyes. It’s so deep bro... just like rick and morty. It is fricked up
If its done well it can be masterful.
Whats wrong with that. Starting off light hearted is a good idea. If your tone is serious as frick to start out with the audience will hold you to a really high standard.

the xenoblade 2 experience
Seems that since FNAF did it and that was an accident and you Black folk cooperated back then to that phenomenon, every game does it in hopes it will spawn merchandise or discussion.
>game starts with DEEP LORE

yes youre right ill just ship as is and learn from it for the next project.
this is getting interesting......what happens next, mordecai?
Loregays themselves are cancer. In general theres no reason for a simple comedic story not to get serious. Yeah who the hell cares about "deep lore" in a video game?
>mordecai gets really into the lore for a setting that is about to get a game

>that night a new copy of the game arrives at their doorstep with a letter explaining they actually made an accurate version of the game but ended up not releasing it to the public
>mordecai invites everyone to try it so he can show him how the game was suppose to be
>game comes to life and starts tearing up the park
>monster start coming for them and mordecai frantically explains how to beat them
>rigby just start punching them and they die because "that's what you do in the game"
>everyone start beating the shit out of monsters until the big boss shows up
>no one knows who he is except mordecai who explains they can never beat him and how powerful he is
>he start destroying the park and is about to kill everyone
>skips yells at mordecai that it's is only powerful because he believes it is
>mordecai finally admits "you're lame"
>big bad is defeated, things wrap up
>paper flys by that has an ad for a thing rigby really likes getting a movie and he gets pumped
you just described the ending of shin megami tensei apocalypse
jej scarily accurate
This image makes me want to bully Rigby's penis.
>write 50 thousand word outline

writing dialogue is easy
Prove it
how
Idk. An example?

>It is the least I can do after you helped me with those bandits

Thank you
If you've got solid characters then dialogue should be easy.
Yeah thats really it. Got to figure out my characters more. I think wanting MC to be something of a blank slate for people to self insert into has added a lot of friction for writing dialogue. Feels too unnatural for everyone to just be talking at him all the time.
When characters should speak, they should speak. You can revise later, and maybe get some friends or some shit to give feedback.
>don't write a plot for your game
>just add some flavor text on some items, let the gamers make up the plot on their own
bravo 10/10 writing
Isn't this basically Earthbound/Mother? Fans had to make a game to fill in the gap between the first because of this obsession.
It's Dark Souls
>game's DEEP LORE is goofy, nonsensical shenanigans
