well the wii is also a gamecube and its a wii so it's kind of a nobrainer if you only care about price, a used wii can be $10 and a $5 USB stick for infinite games.
i prefer playing on the gamecube, but it's kind of expensive to get started if you want good video quality and a hardmod for swiss autoboot.
the gamecube looks fricking cool. it's a freakin cube, buy the cube. cube!!!
Probably even huh. The gamecube has the digital port that in practicality puts out digital to HDMI and it has the port on the bottom for the awesome gameboy player. But the wii can run gamecube games on better hardware, letting you do stuff like enable 60fps cheats without slowdown. So I guess it's a tie. Wiis are cheaper right? I think that makes the Wii undeniably better if you can't or are unwilling to spend more
Here's my gamecube, though not my photo
apparently the icedcube cases are worth a couple hundred bucks now due to rarity. I got mine for $75 in 2010 because I bought the entire cube used on a local marketplace together with some controllers. Pretty good deal.
The Wii is a literally an overclocked Gamecube so duh the Wii. If you want the breakdown: >Wii plays Wii games >Wii plays Gamecube games >Nintendont can leverage the Wii to improve Gamecube games (60fps patches for instance) >Emulates a bunch of systems >With a classic controller/pro you can even play Gamecube games wirelessly >You can get them for 10 bucks >Can play PSO today online with a USB keyboard
Gameboy player is terrible though, the image quality is so bad that you're better off emulating GBA on a Wii
>>Can play PSO today online with a USB keyboard
You can do this with gamecube too if you just buy the lan adapter and the custom keyboard. that will be $500 thank you please come again
ahhh, the CUBE wins again!
There are much cheaper ways to accomplish those things. Honestly nothing about gamecube homebrew is particularly expensive, just the Wii is one of the dictionary examples for god tier easy homebrew
>The Wii is a literally an overclocked Gamecube
Well more accurately, the Wii underclocks its processor to GameCube specifications when it has to play them.
I don't even have a Wii anymore. I find the Gamecube + Wii U combo better. I still have GameCube and Gameboy player functionality, and the Wii U still does everything the Wii did (including piss easy piracy) but with HDMI, the Wii U's library, and if you prefer, still the option to use the Wii component cable too. Also opens up the door to playing DS games as well. The only downside is no GC ports if you use it for things like SSBB, since the official adapter only works with SSB4 because lolnintendo.
cant walk with the gamecube lunch box handle in your hand to go play with your friends if you dont have a physical cube
oh whats that, you dont have any friends to play with? sorry anon

A hacked Wii has to be one of the best all around consoles out there, ignoring straight up emulation boxes. If you had a hacked Wii, a hacked PS2, and a CRT those two alone would give you an insane amount of gameplay.
Most multiplats are best on ps2, gamecube usually got the worst versions. Ssx comes to mind where they had to remove half the tricks due to the controller not having enough buttons. Sorry reseller-kun, your market is crashing.

Indeed it is not autistic to get a DOL-001 and buy component cables for hundreds of dollars instead of downloading Dolphin and enjoying progressive scan for free
Then don’t buy the component cables. It has a digital out port and the component cables convert to analog. Just get any of the significantly cheaper digital out to hdmi options that all produce a better picture anyways.
I will agree that paying for the component cables is stupid though.
They are for the wii, higher quality than OEM for $30

I own a Carby and have in the past bought cheap garbage from China that wasn't worth the money saved.
Hell, I own a Gamecube, I've had one since 2003, and I have a modest collection of 12 games for it, which includes some pretty fricking awesome classics. I still bought a Wii just to be able to play pirated GC games since their prices are completely stupid right now. I only paid $40 for a CIB Wii that looks like it was never used. That wouldn't even get me a single first-party title on Gamecube.
More like picking between a hot big breasted woman (Gamecube) and an ugly flat-chested trans-woman (Wii). Gamecube is the obvious winner unless you're gay.
False. The Gamecube has the superior look, the superior controller, the superior library, HDMI compatible via DOL-001 model Gamecube, and you can attach the Game Boy Player. The Wii on the other hand looks soulless and has no real personality, the library of games are shit and the controller is awful.
"Superior library" that you can play on the Wii. The library is a matter of taste but you're a liar if you say anything on the Gamecube is better than Mario Galaxy or The Last Story.
The Wii has a very clear aesthetic and has an emulator for literally everything that doesn't need a disc to play. I can't defend the AV output but it has the Gamecube beat in every other area. Like it's not even close.
Heavily leaning towards the Wii as far as actual Gamecube games are concerned. You can get the performance boost with Nintendont and an HDMI mod that you can still push to a CRT as 480p which also enables proper digital Dolby Surround Sound again. The Wii U can't even do video output right for Wii games (yet) so even that can't compare. Game Boy Player is neat with the recent homebrew developments so the Gamecube might be the best GBA consolizer unless you want to go the FPGA route.
Wii is the logical choice given homebrew, but I'd still pick GCN for the nuances. >that nice, ambient BIOS >GBA player and broadband adapter >no fricking with the wiimote and wii menu just to load a gamecube game >controller ports are in a better location >isn't named after a dick
Even the addition of the Wii library isn't a major draw for me since the Wii has effectively no games worth playing. I always used my Wii for playing GCN games anyway, which really just makes it a slightly more inconvenient GCN. Maybe some people legitimately sit around playing SNES and GBA emulators on a Wii in 2023 and think this is somehow a major draw, but it couldn't be me.
>no fricking with the wiimote and wii menu just to load a gamecube game
I never use my wiimote or wii menu, and the awkward infrared wii receptor is safely guarded. My Wii is set to boot directly to HBC and I use GCN controls always.
Yeah this is the right way to do it, I haven't used a Wiimote or seen the Wii bios menu in years. Boot into the homebrew channel and you can jump quickly into Nintendont or any emulator/loader you might like, it's all you need. If you're whining about the home menu and can't take the time to figure out how to optimize your Wii experience, that's a you problem.
Just wanted to point out that you can actually access the original GameCube menu on a Wii if you set up Nintendont to do so. I don’t really use it but like the novelty, so for that reason and the fact that progressive video output is cheaper to do, I prefer Wii more overall.
However, the Gamecube does look nicer and ages better since it has less glossy plastic.
Wii >Plays all GC games >Same ports as Gamecube >no 5-colors cable that were $200 each >Native widescreen support >SD card for modding and storing ISO and by USB if you want
For what it's worth the Wii's widescreen is actually fake and just a squashed image, it can't actually output in any higher a resolution than the Gamecube. That's why when you're using it for emus and such you should have it set to 4:3 for perfect pixels.
But it doesnt have the Gameboy player, how could it be better? It's not like you can play Sega CD snatcher with a Wii mote as a light gun or anything.
The gameboy player's a great piece of hardware but the Wii emulation's more than good enough to cover for it now. mgba's autistically accurate and still getting updated even for Wii.
>But it doesnt have the Gameboy player
Good riddance
you can play GBA roms directly instead
Are you guys bots? I'm obviously being ironic, because as you dumbasses didn't even notice .... the Wii can play snatcher with a wiimote for the light gun. Holy low IQ shit
When I realized I could do GameCube on vWii through nintendont I was super hyped but I was quickly disappointed by the under scan. I was really thinking it would be the best picture quality on native hardware. I ended up selling my Wii U to a friend haha
A few people in this thread say the Wii isn't retro... but it doesn't even have a HDMI port, and it can output 240p. Even the OG Xbox can't output a 240p signal and it came out a few years earlier.
Wii is better. Virtual console,.better library (better Mario games, same Zeldas besides wind waker) and tons and tons more 3rd party titles. Plus Wii sports was GOAT shit at the time. And it had online multiplayer games. Nobody cared about PSO2 before some GameCube gay brings up the only online GameCube game
Wii. The only shortcomings that the Cube still has on the Wii is the GB Player and the Broadband adapter for certain games (unless I'm wrong about this).
well the wii is also a gamecube and its a wii so it's kind of a nobrainer if you only care about price, a used wii can be $10 and a $5 USB stick for infinite games.

If your Wii is hacked, you can access the GC menu using nintendont.
>the gamecube looks fricking cool. it's a freakin cube,
No it isn't. It's a cuboid. Even with the GBA player boosting its height it's a cuboid.
The shape pedant has spoken.
I liked how on the Gamecube you could insert and watch a DVD.
Only true on the Panasonic Q from Japan.
Looks like one of those super cheap DVD players supermarkets would sell.
Why didn't this ever release outside japan did it bomb that badly?
its cheaper to buy a PS2 and gamecube separately
*dvd media player and GameCube console separately

couldn't even do that on the wii kek
At least not without homebrew
Probably even huh. The gamecube has the digital port that in practicality puts out digital to HDMI and it has the port on the bottom for the awesome gameboy player. The Wii U still has the proprietary AV output port the Wii had, you can still use the composite or component cables the Wii used.
The Wii U's AV out is horrible though, bilinearly downscales from a higher resolution framebuffer and also has no 240p support
Then keep the Wii for that, I'm not your mom. Just saying what works for me.
This, no 240p, no go.
Why not just emulate them? Dolphin is the best.

Tracking down and buying a Gameboy Player is surely more autistic
No
Name a way to play not only GameBoy games, but GBC and GBA games from the cart.
Said carts have been dumped already, free to be downloaded and played instantly on your Wii through emulators
You can emulate walking and you can emulate friends
underrrated
Doesn’t always work
Why not just buy the 10 games you actually play so you don’t need to feel stupid emulating?
The one that allowed me to play GameCube games from 20001 on and not 6 years later (not retro btw.)
you can't buy a gameboy player for the wii unfortunately, never had one but they seemed cool
A hacked Wii has to be one of the best all around consoles out there, ignoring straight up emulation boxes. If you had a hacked Wii, a hacked PS2, and a CRT those two alone would give you an insane amount of gameplay.
I'll stick with my Xbox. Shame about the PS2's graphics.
Why not both, salty Sally? Unless graphics are the only thing that matters to you and in that case just go get a xbone or ps5?
Because a PS2 would be a waste of space on the shelf with its blurry graphics and inferior multiplats.

GameCube has better output via digital though.
Is it better than Wii's component out?
wii because it fixes the poor framerate in gc games and loads faster than any of the gc's loading options that cost more
yes but its been fixed so now it's identical.
>yes but its been fixed so now it's identical.

It was a software issue, basically a filter wasn't being turned off but this has since been addressed by all homebrew.

Yeah it's the deflicker filter so it technically is, but you may prefer it.
How is this fix applied though, like for Nintendont could I just update it?
Just run the latest version of the software and it's integrated
Hmm I did that a few weeks a go and I haven't really noticed a difference.

If you like 1% horizontal blur, underscan, and/or chroma shift, yes
Enjoy your upscalers then. I will just correct the native digital signal on the panel itself while you will cry about cables.
So who pick Wii mini over Wii U?
The Wii with the GCN controller slots.
The Wii was super easy to hack, and play pirated games.
Not counting backwards compatibility, the GCN has a better standalone library.
only reason to go for the Gamecube is the aesthetic and the GBA player, otherwise the Wii just obseletes it
Gamecube obviously. Also Wii isn't retro.
Babe the Wii will be old enough to vote next year

Resident Evil(Jill Valentine), Soul Calibur 2, and BMX XXX just to name a few.

It drives my point home.

And it looked cooler.
>was
The GameCube
>now with Nintendont
The Wii
Wii. The only shortcomings that the Cube still has on the Wii is the GB Player and the Broadband adapter for certain games (unless I'm wrong about this).
