right off the bat I can already tell the name alone helped them lose. discord is way more marketable. These things are important when doing business

They also don’t encourage grooming and porn addiction

its also free to make a server and supports sending image and video which team speak did not have at the time

How the frick is Discord more marketable than TeamSpeak, it doesn't even sound like a chat program

        Anonymous

Teamspeak sounds like some 1337 gamer thing while Discord sounds like a place where people talk to each.

          >Discord sounds like a place where people talk to each.
No it doesn't moron, you just say that cause you're used to it now

            Anonymous

The word discord and the similar sounding word discourse are both related to communication. They're also not super common words people use every day like "team" and "speak"

              Anonymous

Yeah, what the hell does "Skype" mean anyways? Doesn't sounds like a chat program to me

                Anonymous

Well no it doesn't. If I had never heard of it and was forced to guess I'd think Skype was a file hosting service (Sky = cloud).

              Anonymous

Discord sounds like the opposite of what you'd want to name a messaging program, if you asked a random person who hasn't heard of it they'd probably guess a news app or at best something more like twitter

                Anonymous

                >at best something more like twitter
a communication platform with hundreds of millions users?

                Anonymous

Yeah, a place where you can say inflammatory bullshit and have strangers argue with you
Not a messaging program you use to chat and voice with your friends

                Anonymous

Discord is a better name than teamspeak because teamspeak implies a fairly narrow scope of communication (working as a team on winning a game or working as a team on a business project) while Discord sounds like a general purpose talking-to-people platform which includes all the stuff you use teamspeak for.

TeamSpeak sounds like an old ass product made by a clueless boomer, aka like an in house Microsoft product, except even Skype of all things sounds more modern

TeamSpeak sounds like some shitty business program you have to use for meetings, Discord sounds more fun and social like you and your friends are about to have a crazy game night

          >Zoom
          >MS Teams

You're just talking out of hindsight

it wasn't the name, it was the fricking chore it was to use the free version of ts which was fricking garbage, setting a server was shit, with an atrocious over bloated UI and not intuitive at all to normalgays, some of the worst mic capture technology ever with an abysmal audio quality. I'm glad I never have to deal with ts ever again, has to be the worst app I've ever been "forced" to use of all time.

Yup this. Discord 100% deserved its market dominance, all other voip and chat programs were complacent and stale when suddenly a new competitor arrived actually innovating and bringing in new persistent chat features with images, chat logs, FREE voice chat, there was nothing teamspeak or mumble could do. They were outmatched.

Yeah being spyware is why it took off not because it gave you three programs worth of functionality with none of the difficulty and the incumbent (skype) recently just got bought by microsoft and shat itself. It was definitely the spyware that made everyone move over.
