Hack Levine was still considered a good writer when 2 came out and he wasn't involved so it was bad. Infinite defined the seventh generation just fine.

And then there's the whole Immersive Sim debate. It isn't even one but it's often seen as one of the better ones.
I'd rather have UE3 texture resolution and shader complexity that runs at 300 FPS at 4k with strong art direction and actual gameplay than whatever you want, ape.

Artistry is more important that just slapping high res textures and nice effects and shaders on your game. It has always been like that and still is like that. It's why there's ps1 games that look nicer than some ps3 games.
