the game is really good but it suffers horribly with no way to modulate the difficulty.
in souls games you typically could farm a bit or upgrade gear if your stuck on a boss to make it a bit easier, but Sekiro? hard stuck for sometimes days until you do it exactly how they want you to.
really enjoyed my time with it but haven't picked it back up since i got stuck on the second owl fight.

kinda my own fault for trying to get the best ending, i'm technically stuck on an optional boss and what is considered one of the hardest in the game.

Owl is tough it took a while for everything to click and also I didn't knew how to mikiri counter properly, also you can use firecrackers on him to give you an attack window and shuriken to prevent his posture from going down.
those tactics worked on the first Owl fight but hardly seem to do much on the second fight, it is a simple case of running out of skill and not having the patience for another 3 day ordeal to get good.
I mostly was getting raped by his firecracker swipe, I figure you can just dodge side ways for free hits and use firecracker at that point as well, took me like 2 days of grind to understand the fight.
i just didn't have the patience to keep going after being stuck a day or two, nearly dropped the game at Genichiro Way of Tomoe very early on into the game when i was stuck on them for 3 days, then the game finally clicked and i managed the rest with what i felt was reasonable attempts up until the Owl refight.
Yeh, If owl gave you so much problems to the point of breaking your will I cannot imagine what ishin would have done to you.
Owl refight is harder than Isshin
The key to the whole game is to keep mashing R1 the whole time and do not rest, do not let them rest. Only block if they manage to squeak off an attack. Owl in particular will spend more time jumping backwards trying to get away from you than attacking if you do this. Throw a shuriken if he is too far away to hit.
I unironically won against the first Owl fight because i cheesed against him using firecracker and fistful of ash. Really works wonder. I originally used fire and oil but damn he was still too fast for me.

once I realized there was no timing on the parries and I could just clicka-clicka-clicka-clicka my way to victory I pretty much lost all interest. It's transparently very easy
I dont get these posts. I started pressing the parry button like crazy and got killed all the time, I was stuck with the first boss or so Then I learned to time them, realize the core of combat is basically a rhythm game, and I blast through the game, the mechanic hooked me for a couple of weeks
I think people that make posts like that just have they “rhythm” automatically click with them and they just assume since they didn’t have to actively work at it that it’s just mindlessly untimed spamming.

I don't get the praise either. The game is extremely bland in every regard but a couple zones, and the levels being so vertical doesn't help the gameplay at all, it just serves to highlight how shit the AI is at operating outside of its very rigid behaviour.
All the tools you get are designed to counter something, not to be fun to use. You can only equip one, or was it two combat arts? That's doing nothing for the fact that the combat itself boils down to spamming attack and block.
I'm just so fricking tired of the From format of "undying hero travels through a world of recycled bosses and people who all speak in riddles to give the story a false sense of depth".
I thought it was a lot of fun. I really enjoyed the gameplay 🙂

My favourite action game is Bayonetta, but Sekiro's combat is still extremely satisfying. I hope we get a sequel set in China that follows on from the Return ending.
