An obscure Japanese point-and-click game from 1999. A "complete edition" (enhanced visuals, improved UI, additional music and new story content) was crowdfunded in 2020. The mobile version was released in December last year, and the Steam version was released yesterday.

You left out the best part. It was a lost media holy grail for /vr/ for a while several years back. Someone found a copy on auction on a Japanese site, bought it and uploaded it. But there were no translations for a while. Some patches were made eventually but they didn't translate everything, like in-game menus.
tl;dr this game's revival is a result of /vr/'s interest
That and the rediscovery of LSD Dream Simulator a few years back are entirely the result of /vr/
I've played through the mobile version (and will probably get the steam version), but never played the original. What parts of this remake weren't in the original?
The biggest difference is everything after you confront Shen. In the original, the story ends with you leaving Garage immediately afterwards, never learning the truth about Juice or the Milky Fuel Station females.

You guys posted this during covid lockdowns and I have it on my old WD. What's different for this version?
