IIRC, one of the programmers literally admitted that they just fricked around with polygons and anything that looked cool got to be a monster. I've not played the Remake, but I'm sure some of the weird monsters got "generic monster'd". Like, I'm sure a couple of guys are now just "wolf monster with a vaguely related color scheme to the original". because they assume the kids today won't take an evil house in the middle of a junkyard as a miniboss seriously.
It was the first true "lets take our fantasy series and move into actual scifi territory" title and so you had a lot of stuff of them coming up with vaguely scifi enemies instead of fantasy monsters as base.
I will always be amazed at the ingenuity of old engineers, especially the madman who designed the first automatic transmission. Fricking fluids filling passageways to move little beads around to shift gears, that's nuts.
Yeah engineering is one of those things that just completely eludes me. When you look at a cutaway or a schematic and wonder how the hell they got there. I think it's one of those things you really just either "get" or you don't.
>show up for work >the guards are robots with shotgun hands >take the elevator up to the 62nd floor >get shot at by a helicopter robot >finally get off >the mayor wants to show you his sphinx impression before you're allowed to go up to the next floor >you have to dodge brains in jars, poison spewing demons, flying robot buzzsaw fish and signboards with machine guns just so you can make it to the meeting in a conference room that smells like literal shit
Must really suck being a Shinra employee.
I know its a joke, but people with the correct clearance wouldnt fight roboguards, the brains in jars and other specimins escaped Hojos lab after Jenova broke out (Hojo said there would be consequences for attacking him), amd the mayor only gave Cloud a puzzle because he knew he was Avalanche but was bored and hated Shinra. People with the right card wouldnt even have access to his floor.
You're also forgetting the sweet gym and cute receptionists.
remember when cloud gets anally raped in the hot tub lol
It isn't rape if you choose to.
the weird monsters in FFVII are really the best part
Why did VII specifically have the most and best weird monsters?
Great question
Great taste
The same reason a silver haired twink is the villain.
it was the first to do 3d, and it also had a unique setting while also still having the Final Fantasy name to draw from.

eh. so far they seem to be pretty on par with the OGs.
The house is in the remake, and it's a terrible bossfight.
Filtered.
I got the platinum trophy sonny, doesn't mean the game is good. The story made me wanna puke.
>platinum trophy
i hate FF7 but you need to leave now
The remake did that part brilliantly actually. They go all in on translating the weirdness.

Is it really that wacky?

its not that hard anon
rome wasnt built in a day
i didnt design the bally astrocade but designing controller adapters for it and the Odyssey2 were fun
Well, yes? One does not really picture a guy in iron lungs attacking you.
It’s actually just a head inside a washing machine. Or something like that
My favorite is the demonic house thing.

how much does shinra pay you to post here?
He accidentally equipped 'enemy shill' materia.
For me it's the ceiling guillotines in Shinra mansion.
Always used to think this was Fabio coming to get me when I was a kid.
should've become a recurring monster in the series
gave me loads of gils lel
gee I can't wait for the 5 hour quest to fight one of these things in the remake
Morph and the Conformer on these and the Glenika monsters for unlimited sources.
I can’t believe they made all these weird monsters work in the remake
Turning the stupid robot house into an actual centrepiece was a stroke of genius.
