Nah, the distribution was an official thing that happened. All the ISO does is simulate it.
Far different from just plain ol' hacking the game.

The distribution was using an external tool too.

Yes an officially released external tool

Which is still hacking by your definition.

Official external tools are obviously excluded as they are intended by GF to be used on the game (i.e. actual shiny zigzagoon disc which 99.99999% of people can't get and not a rom that anyone can download and use a SD card hack device to force their GC to run which isn't much different from just using an AR device).

And how is that different from having gone to a Toys-r-us to connect to a disc there? Where did you think the ISO came from, hell? Someone obtained that disc and ripped it.

They would use the GameCube disc itself and a GameCube to give you the mon as GF intended so yes it's a lot different than simply running a rom and injecting (could also just use PKHex and the mon's data file and inject that with an SD card reader into the cartridge directly).

Are you even following the conversation?

A Gamecube is used in this scenario. Same with a Gamecube-GBA adapter cable, just like with the official distribution. Did you think they used some unique, special cable for this?

If the only thing the reader is doing is emulating the disc, how is it any different?
Anonymous
Excluding the cable and GameCube, the devices used to emulate the disc to add the mon/berry to your game aren't officially approved by GF or Nintendo and therefore can't be considered a legitimate way to get the berry and secondly the official method (having the disc itself) is basically closed off to the vast majority of people who cannot get their hands on the actual disc approved by GF to distribute the mon.
Therefore the Liechi Berry attainment method is time-gated

Anonymous
What about someone who owns the disc bringing it to a convention or event alongside a Gamecube and GBA-GCN adapter, to allow for anyone who wants it to get it?
Anonymous
Yeah that would be legit since they are using all the official equipment but it still wouldn't solve the problem of the item not being time-gated since you would need to be there with that person at that moment in time to get the berry instead of going through the in-game process

>it still wouldn't solve the problem of the item not being time-gated
That doesn't sound like a problem.
well you managed to come up with an even MORE time gated way of getting it than the intended path by hinging your strategy on the out-of-business toys r us
>it didn't have real-time stuff, so everything else about it that's fricking great is somehow invalidated
If the only thing you care about is time stuff, then I have a different series for you.

It's fricking pokemon dude no shit >no backwards compatibility
Not as big of a deal as people make it. Still not great
In every way yeah. The only bad thing is that it didn't really split atk and sp.atk, makes it hard to revisit for me. But that's patchable and we got remakes...
They did, but /vp/ is comprised mostly of people that weren't fans before Gen 3, so they never felt how shitty it felt. And Colosseum, FRLG, and Emerald are not an excuse, if anything it's so much worse that they intentionally withheld Pokemon so that you have to buy other games just to get them
Because the excuse was "it's fricking impossible to make a GBA communicate with a GBC and we took the chance make a massively improved but completely incompatible update to the data structure while we were at it" instead of just "reuse models hard :("
>Zoomers
They did, but thankfully if you were complaining in 2003 you were mostly shouting at a wall that was gamefaqs or some other forum compared to now.
>tfw i can straight up hear it.
Honestly, first three gens have a different place in my heart.
Gen 4 was alright. I skipped Gen 5 because >life. But Gen 6 renewed my competitive playing, ended up being a top 50 player. 😀
I like the implication the game has that Groudon and Kyogre don't hate each other, but when they're awake their power is too great for them to control, and the only way they can manage it is by clashing with each other. When Fug descends to Sootopolis to break up their fight, he doesn't whip them into shape, his Air Lock just gets them back in control of their own power again, and they willingly leave peacefully. Rayquaza isn't their moron minder, he's their pharmacist, giving them their meds.
>morons always b***hing about water >game beats you over the head with the theme of water and land in equal balance hence 50% of the map being water
And they did a decent job of putting non-water trainers on the post-Sootopolis routes. This has never been an issue for me.
Gen 3 is my favorite and I consider the graphics austere, nothing fancy but they give you all the necessary information and never get in the way. It's a gameplay first design. Gen 2 is more lavish but everything gets a bit muddled because of the limited hardware. In Gen 4 the pseudo-3D overworld is jarring and busy but the Pokemon sprites are very well done. If they didn't use 3D in the overworld it would have looked amazing, also the smeared battle backgrounds are hideous.

It's no fun if it takes less than five steps to complete.
The only time-gated thing in Hoenn of course involves water
KEKEKEKEKEKEK
This whole thread is about aesthetics, which includes ambience. It’s not about what is convenient.
Nothing is time gated because you can literally alter your device time. Get a better issue.
>it didn't have real-time stuff, so everything else about it that's fricking great is somehow invalidated
If the only thing you care about is time stuff, then I have a different series for you.
there is nothing hoenn does that another region does not do better
the only reason hoenn gets praised as much as it does is nostalgia
>t. nostalgiatards
You won't post a better thematically designed region because you know who you are and I know who you are.
sinnoh
>Worse Hoenn
>Absolutely no terrain variety
moron
>Adventure in New York
is an oxymoron and those games prove that.
no terrain variety
the hoenngay is moronic, what else is new
Absolutely no terrain variety.
Even when Hoenn is "half water" it mogs the shit out of sinnoh.
>he's doubling down
It's not doubling down as I have not done anything be restate what I initially said.
Literacy.
that's what doubling down is, gaytard
Unova.
but enough about johto (sinnoh does everything better)
What does hoenn do that sinnoh doesn’t do better?
There is no region better designed thematically than Hoenn.
It’s not even close
>short region
hoenn takes longer to get through than gen 2's johto + kanto .....
That's literally wrong since the level scaling in Hoenn is actually good.
it's literally true
>have 8 badges and be on your way to the league
>encounter level 12 tentacool
Sneed
>level scaling in Hoenn is actually good
When the highest wild Pokémon level is 30 until Victory Road absolutely not lmao
The only real improvement over Johto is that the trainers actually use higher level Pokémon. Otherwise still not good
>no day and night cycles
>no weekly events

the gameplay was vastly improved from the predecessor
In every way yeah. The only bad thing is that it didn't really split atk and sp.atk, makes it hard to revisit for me. But that's patchable and we got remakes...
gen 3 is the worst looking generation, ever
even the gameboy titles look better than it
nothing beats gen 5 in terms of terrible graphics
at least gen 5 has sprites that are fricking scaled correctly
Even when they revisited the region, they came correct with the mega evolution starter forms
Megas are so fricking hideous. I'm glad they're gone
>artwork
Yep
>monster designs
Definitely
>sprites
LOOOOOOL
>From the sprites
it has the worst overwold sprites in the series
i think they look nice actually
The ash was kind of fun as a kid, I used to try and see how many tiles I could clear at once
Why did nobody complain about RSE having the first dexcut
The mon were all still technically in the game. Just needed the Gamecube games to access them.
We were compensated with FRLG remakes and the colloseum games.
Meanwhile switch shit can't even fit in the nationaldex AT ALL.
They did, but /vp/ is comprised mostly of people that weren't fans before Gen 3, so they never felt how shitty it felt. And Colosseum, FRLG, and Emerald are not an excuse, if anything it's so much worse that they intentionally withheld Pokemon so that you have to buy other games just to get them
As a Johtoddler I distinctly remember panicking when Ruby and Sapphire were advertised as 'say bye bye to the old mons'
>dexcut
>gen 1 and 2 mons still coded into the game
>national dex including every pokemon
>what is the nonexistent furfrou in gen 9
Because the excuse was "it's fricking impossible to make a GBA communicate with a GBC and we took the chance make a massively improved but completely incompatible update to the data structure while we were at it" instead of just "reuse models hard :("
>Zoomers
They did, but thankfully if you were complaining in 2003 you were mostly shouting at a wall that was gamefaqs or some other forum compared to now.
Everyone did, you guys have no idea how bad the shitposting was because it was irl. You got bullied for being into pokemon back in gen 3.
Which pokemon from gens 1 and 2 were removed from gen 3 and not programmed into the game?
Everybody complained about that. It was one of the big things that killed the momentum of the series at the time.
The sprites were usually off-model in a bad way. The overworld and most of the back sprites looked like Gen 2, but with more colors.
Ruby & Sapphire felt like such a downgrade from Gold, Silver, and Crystal. GSC used the colors so nicely while RSE and FRLG looks bland and washed-out
Yeah, hoenn is peak comfy
>tfw i can straight up hear it.
Honestly, first three gens have a different place in my heart.
Gen 4 was alright. I skipped Gen 5 because >life. But Gen 6 renewed my competitive playing, ended up being a top 50 player. 😀
If you ever wanna try gen 5, don't play the first games, go straight to black/white 2.
But maybe the next remake will be gen 5.
They had lots of kids.
I remember hating the over world sprites as a kid but I liked most other aspects of the tropical aesthetic
route 113 music is sexo
for me it's mt. pyre (peak), dewford town, sootopolis theme, and frontier brain themes.
I like the implication the game has that Groudon and Kyogre don't hate each other, but when they're awake their power is too great for them to control, and the only way they can manage it is by clashing with each other. I think Gen 3 has the ugliest aesthetic. Gen 2 still maintains that simplistic retro feel but 3 is just worse 4 in color and in style.
Don't get why only moronic people ever feel the need to post their lists.
>morons always b***hing about water
>game beats you over the head with the theme of water and land in equal balance hence 50% of the map being water
And they did a decent job of putting non-water trainers on the post-Sootopolis routes. This has never been an issue for me.
i just wish they had more variety in water pokemon in a region thats half water. surely thats not unreasonable?

That looks like shit though
No shit sherlock, it was 2002.
I mean for the GBA
