Official external tools are obviously excluded as they are intended by GF to be used on the game (i.e. actual shiny zigzagoon disc which 99.99999% of people can't get and not a rom that anyone can download and use a SD card hack device to force their GC to run which isn't much different from just using an AR device).
And how is that different from having gone to a Toys-r-us to connect to a disc there? Where did you think the ISO came from, hell? Someone obtained that disc and ripped it.
They would use the GameCube disc itself and a GameCube to give you the mon as GF intended so yes it's a lot different than simply running a rom and injecting (could also just use PKHex and the mon's data file and inject that with an SD card reader into the cartridge directly).

If the only thing the reader is doing is emulating the disc, how is it any different?
Excluding the cable and GameCube, the devices used to emulate the disc to add the mon/berry to your game aren't officially approved by GF or Nintendo and therefore can't be considered a legitimate way to get the berry and secondly the official method (having the disc itself) is basically closed off to the vast majority of people who cannot get their hands on the actual disc approved by GF to distribute the mon.
Therefore the Liechi Berry attainment method is time-gated
What about someone who owns the disc bringing it to a convention or event alongside a Gamecube and GBA-GCN adapter, to allow for anyone who wants it to get it?
Yeah that would be legit since they are using all the official equipment but it still wouldn't solve the problem of the item not being time-gated since you would need to be there with that person at that moment in time to get the berry instead of going through the in-game process

We were compensated with FRLG remakes and the colloseum games.
Meanwhile switch shit can't even fit in the nationaldex AT ALL.
They did, but /vp/ is comprised mostly of people that weren't fans before Gen 3, so they never felt how shitty it felt. And Colosseum, FRLG, and Emerald are not an excuse, if anything it's so much worse that they intentionally withheld Pokemon so that you have to buy other games just to get them

The sprites were usually off-model in a bad way. The overworld and most of the back sprites looked like Gen 2, but with more colors.
Ruby & Sapphire felt like such a downgrade from Gold, Silver, and Crystal. GSC used the colors so nicely while RSE and FRLG looks bland and washed-out

Honestly, first three gens have a different place in my heart.
Gen 4 was alright. I skipped Gen 5 because >life. But Gen 6 renewed my competitive playing, ended up being a top 50 player. 😀
If you ever wanna try gen 5, don't play the first games, go straight to black/white 2.

for me it's mt. pyre (peak), dewford town, sootopolis theme, and frontier brain themes.
I like the implication the game has that Groudon and Kyogre don't hate each other, but when they're awake their power is too great for them to control, and the only way they can manage it is by clashing with each other. When Fug descends to Sootopolis to break up their fight, he doesn't whip them into shape, his Air Lock just gets them back in control of their own power again, and they willingly leave peacefully. Rayquaza isn't their moron minder, he's their pharmacist, giving them their meds.
I think Gen 3 has the ugliest aesthetic. Gen 2 still maintains that simplistic retro feel but 3 is just worse 4 in color and in style.

And they did a decent job of putting non-water trainers on the post-Sootopolis routes. This has never been an issue for me.

Gen 3 is my favorite and I consider the graphics austere, nothing fancy but they give you all the necessary information and never get in the way. It's a gameplay first design. Gen 2 is more lavish but everything gets a bit muddled because of the limited hardware. In Gen 4 the pseudo-3D overworld is jarring and busy but the Pokemon sprites are very well done. If they didn't use 3D in the overworld it would have looked amazing, also the smeared battle backgrounds are hideous.
