As much as i like to defend gen5 i gotta say the move animations are trash
Gen 3 animations are the best of all time, they all feel so crunchy and punchy with their sounds and simple but satisfying animations
Imagine looking forward to an Ice-type eeveelution for that sweet STAB Aurora Beam only for it to be reduced to this shit. I'm glad Glacieon couldn't even learn that mess.
The background is the only thing missing in my opinion. I like the beam a lot better than the rings. It actually sort of resembles an aurora instead of gay hypnosis
Gen 3 has overall amazing animations except for Hyper Beam sucks ass, no the pill beam isn't good
Gen 8 Hyper Beam is perfect and they completely ruined it in gen 9
Maybe it's just me but I actually thing good chunk of the gen 8 moves actually look good, yes the pokémon animation per se sucks (the still jumping, beams coming from a pokémon chest instead of mouth etc) but the move itself looks cool, and GF makes a good use of frame stopping and background coloring to make the move look more impactful
Scarlet and Violet gets rid of that because it needs to have a free camera, and because of that a lot of the moves feel weaker even if they're almost the same
I honestly dislike the free camera during battles, do you guys really enjoy moving the camera around during a battle?
Even action games where having a camera is a must tend to have special attacks where they fix the camera for two seconds because that way the move looks cooler, while the weaker attacks you tend to spam don't
Why ice doesn't have a terrain? it's so easy to imagine a floor made of ice

PLA has really good animations imo, speedy and brisk but still cool
