ok
Just say PS2/Xbox like a normal person.
I have no fricking clue what "6th gen" meant until I saw that list of games
Add 2023 to the list
2023:
> Baldur's Gate 3
> Starfield
> Diablo 4
> Tekken 8
> Street Fighter 6
> Diablo 4
> Tears of the Kingdom
> Final Fantasy 16
> Super Mario Bros. Wonder
> Marvel's Spider Man 2
there is nothing good in that list
troony gate was never good
>Sonic Heroes
>t. Sonic fan
From the moment I played it to this very day I say Sonic Heroes fricking blows and I don't care how much of an outlier that makes me. That rushed, glitch-ridden mess did not deserve the warm reception it got. "Sonic goes back to his roots" my ass, that was nothing but an aesthetic choice. And seriously the whole "team" gimmick and how unnatural the Fly characters moved should regulate Sonic Heroes to the status of Spin Off, not Mainline
>in another universe Terry worked with LGS to make a thief game
how do I cope?
>how do I cope?
We don't.
;_;
for good measure
2000:
> The Sims
> Diablo II
> Deus Ex
> Counter-Strike
> Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn
> Perfect Dark
> Hitman: Codename 47
> Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2
> Jet Set Radio
> Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2
> Final Fantasy IX
> Banjo-Tooie
> Icewind Dale
> Chrono Cross
> Thief II: The Metal Age
> Resident Evil Code: Veronica
Beat Chrono Cross 3 times and got all the characters and it's just a meh game. Strong arm was kind of cool.
>2004:
>Thief
Huh?? That's Thief: Deadly Shadows you dumbass. That is definitely not the game the article is referring to. I bet Terry didn't like that one as much as the first two.
Videogame budgets reached just about the perfect balance. And it was downhill from there.
1998 alone had better games than your entire list combined
6th gen started with the release of the Dreamcast so it goes from '98 to '05.
Gen 6 was ok, but Gen 5 was on another level.
Gen 5 and Gen 6 are very close together in 'all time best' rating, but they have their own qualities. I'd take those two gens and never have any industry produced game made again. I absolutely have much more profound love for gen 5
Ok, first of all, i'm not a zoomer. I was born in 1991, so i've somehow lived those years as a gamer, although i've played only a fraction of the games that defined that era at the time.
Recently i was making a list of my personal GOTYs year by year and i was surprised how difficult is to find a true masterpiece in 2002-2003 (2002 especially).
Ok in 2002 Gothic 2 came out but it was a more of the same (Gothic 1 was my 2001 GOTY). What else? 2002 had:
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, possibly the game with the best licensed soundtrack to this day, soulful HUD - but gameplay is trash and story is mid
Neverwinter Nights is a terrible game even in the context of the Bioware of those years (KOTOR , 2003, feels 10 years ahead than NW and is only one year younger)
Morrowind is just the backbone of what would be a masterpiece
Haven't finished Eternal Darkness yet but looks like a masterpiece in its niche more than a masterpiece overall
Metroid Prime is the closest 2002 has to a masterpiece and its a 8.5/10 game. The gameplay is still solid, but the game is overall dull and meager
2003 is not that better.
Beyond Good & Evil is 30% a bright, lively world that could have been the setting of a masterpiece and 70% two horrible dungeons
Haven't played Wind Waker
Viewtiful Joe had some genius but it was raw as frick and had terrible camera, terrible gimmicks and terrible trolling
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is probably the closest 2003 had to a masterpiece - but it doesn't really get there
In short 2002-2003 had nothing comparable to
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater/Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines (2004)
or Gothic/Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (and, if you wish, Max Payne) (2001)
Weird
gen 5 was better
>system shock
>metal gear solid
>age of empires 2
>deus ex
>super mario 64
>half life and cs
>diablo 1 & 2
Nintendo's 2002 first party exclusive output is the equivalent to like the entire Switch's lifespan.
I wonder if Pratchet frequented the forums of his own amazing game
Imagine having never grew up during the PS1 era and experiencing what the world was like then. They will never understand it.
>Discworld board game is genuinely fricking great and one of my favourites
>Pratchett dies
>Apparently his family revokes the rights or something and ever singe his death its been completely out of print
FRICKING WHY
Just go to a used book store dumbass.
Yeah but now there are forever finite copies that will just get more broken down and expensive.
I have it
Is Discworld novels worth getting into?
Start with Mort, it's full of soul

>Hogfather is like four in
Ah, that explains it. Every year on Christmas I watch the miniseries with a friend. I'm completely lost and yet I LOVE it.
Based and same
yes, just keep in mind the first couple novels are really different from the rest
try the death series, it's absolute kino
