The shattered island. The Electro Manifestation boss there is a lifeform created from the Thunderbird's lingering power and resentment. Originally, Ei sealed it away and had a shrine installed to keep watch over it. However, during Ako Domeki's rebellion against the Shogunate, the head priestess at the time undid the seal in the hopes that it would allow him to escape the Shogunate's ship. I didn't finish the second or third parts of the Sumeru Desert, and I've gone straight into Fontaine.
What the frick is all this dragon talk everyone's on about? Last dragon I remember anyone talking about was the one Celestia nuked into Dragonspine.
Before gods/archons there were dragons. War happened, dragons lost, some died, some went into hiding, others learned to cope and adapted (like Dvalin), Seems like they are going with one dragon per region or something altho afaik Liyue and Inazuma got none and are either dead and forgotten or it's just a new plotpoint they decided to go with after Enkanomiya brought them up in the first place. Nahida's second story quest is all about the Dendro dragon Apep. Fontaine's hydro dragon is rumored to be dead or at least long gone from Fontaine as far as people are concerned but current archon quest and leaks heavily imply Neuvilette is the hydro dragon reincarnated as man (as prophecy foretold in Enkanomiya).

Personally I'm loving exploring underwater, the OST and the visuals are an amazing experience, the lighting during the different hours of the day can change quite a lot
Combat is fine, parrying with the crab is pretty fun and there's some creativity here and there in the puzzles with different combat skills

Fontaine exploration as a whole is pretty good. I feel like I like it more solely because of how fricking atrocious the last two desert regions were rather than Fontaine having done anything special.
Combat on land is good, some of the new enemies will frick your day up by themselves if you just frick around instead of killing them asap, most enemies in Sumeru felt like they only did that when combo'd through multiple elements as the eremite camps usually involved two elemental types, or the consecrated beasts which were pretty rare.
Underwater combat is ass though. There's pretty much no depth to it and it's insanely repetitive because there's no actual variety even though there are 3 different types of skills to absorb from fishes, every designated encounter using either is always the same, there's no strategy and the crab shield counter feels stupid to use because you just hold it til you get hit then release, there's zero timing involved. The first "legend" crab was fun, seeing another 10min later being the exact same thing and is just 90% a waiting game of it attacking so you can counter it is stupid. Overall 8/19 on land, 6/10 underwater because combat is shit.
Also only MC and Fontaine characters can seamlessly transition above and below water for whatever reason which is gay as frick, there aren't even any unique animations between characters so it's just pure laziness or greed by MHY to restrict it like that.
Fair points, I haven't played that much underwater so I couldn't notice most of these issues, shame there's only 3 of those special mobs, hopefully they can add more in the upcoming expansions and give them nicer skills to make the combat better
On the upside, combat underwater is rarely forced, pretty much every fish is non-hostile and only the mechs are aggressive. Visually it all looks great and it controls relatively smoothly (I do wish you could up vertical camera sensitivity on controller though, it's way too fricking slow compared to horizontal). As far as pure exploration goes, my only real complaint would be that the water stamina bar should last twice as long. I was initially very reserved and expected the worst especially when I realized only the new characters can do the seamless transition onto land or dolphin jump but it's actually pretty decent.
Also big bonus for not arbitrarily locking shit out behind some obnoxiously long and shitty world quest, at least not that I've encountered yet anyway, big upgrade from Sumeru right there.
It's weird how all the Fontaine weapons really want you to bring a healer. I mean I get that Fontaine's gimmick is that everyone keeps killing themselves but like the forged sword NEEDS a healer because it doesn't actually do anything except nerf you until you overheal.
I wouldn't put too much stock into the craftable weapon to match the archon. The Sumeru catalyst didn't end up being all that useful for Nahida despite on paper it looking like it would cater to her.
Yeah. The only forged weapon that really specifically works with the Archon might be the Kitain Cross Spear, but there are more effective options. Inazuma gives you The Catch just by fishing. And even without The Catch, Prototype Starglitter is probably better on her.
See, you better really hope that Furina scales off of Atk for everything she does because this is an Atk sword. Its total Atk modifiers is the highest among the 4-star weapons provided you have all the procs. The problem, I suppose, is that no currently available sword user really needs a weapon like this. On max procs it probably has the single highest overall Atk rating in the game among swords. No one actually needs that much Atk because most sword characters have other priorities. Incidentally, Bennett only scales off of base Atk so the substat and passives do absolutely nothing for him.
So in order for this to provide value to Furina, she's gonna really, really want more Atk.

Why do they keep adding so many boring atk% weapons? We have such major overlap in this category now it feels like none have a specific niche and they're all basically filler. I have a hard time average players do weekly bosses and have a stack of billets they're just waiting to use for fashion impact
Easiest way to add a functional weapon for free without making it useless. In contrast majority of the craftable catalysts are fricking garbage but the Fontaine one looks actually decent as a general DPS catalyst unlike every other they have added so far.
In general there's a fair few craftable weapons that are really good, hell Prototype Crescent when you can activate its effect is still among the strongest DPS bows in the game and it's completely free, Hamayumi is a good close second for when you can't activate Crescents passive.
If I stop rolling and wait for her, I'm good. But man I just wanted to either have both twins, or just level Lynette constellations, yet I've gotren nothing but Beneth in 70 rolls. I'm torn on wether to stop or do one more.

Even an entire year of full clear abyss only gives you 90 rolls, that is n ot even enough to 100% guarantee a single character without guarantee and by itself wont be enough to future clear abyss for an entire year as you need multiple characters.
You are literally better off not doing abyss (or at least not 36*) and just go for characters you want than spend on shit you don't want just to have an easier time in abyss.

The bad thing about getting burned on a banner and dropping the game is you're going to be hurting if you pick it up again because there's a character you want to roll for. Archon is in 11 weeks so you should be able to get a shot at a coinflip if you welkin. If you lost your last coinflip she's guaranteed

Hydro Loom is good with Nilou. Also you have to do a quest to get the Fontaine commisions, it's literally just talking with katheryne you should have it.

I just can't do it anymore with the slow dialog and the sheer length these quests go on for. The Eternal Oasis quest took me 5 hours to complete, and most of it is just dialog dialog dialog. I started the quest with the Wanderer and had to sit through two 30 minute flashback cutscenes with two who? characters.
Despite all of it, I feel obligated to play it because I spent quite a bit of money on it. I know I can't get back what I spent and the huge risks involved but I just want to sell it off and move on. I'll comeback when the game is fully complete with a private server and hopefully a cutscene skip is added. It's amazing how much more streamlined Honkai Star Rail is but the characters and gameplay are ass so it doesn't appeal to me.
Sumeru story quests are the worst part of the entire game. I know they fricking suck but just put on a podcast or something and click through them. It was rough for me too at the time, but now I cleared all of 4.0 content and I loved the game again. Sumeru fricking sucked

Even with C6 and Faruzan's burst, her personal damage is really low and she has basically no AoE. Maybe I need to get her the Marechausse set and get her final ascension, but so far my testing with VV and double anemo dmg set has been rather disappointing.

However, during Ako Domeki's rebellion against the Shogunate, the head priestess at the time undid the seal in the hopes that it would allow him to escape the Shogunate's ship. The unsealed Thunder Manifestation promptly nuked the entire island and destroyed every ship nearby. The Shogunate had to stage a rescue and took all survivors to Narukami Island. Domeki end his ship ended up shipwrecked on the Golden Apple Archipelago. Eventually, he made it back to Inazuma, but his home and people were destroyed by Asase Hibiki's rash actions.

War happened, dragons lost, some died, some went into hiding, others learned to cope and adapted (like Dvalin), Seems like they are going with one dragon per region or something altho afaik Liyue and Inazuma got none and are either dead and forgotten or it's just a new plotpoint they decided to go with after Enkanomiya brought them up in the first place. Nahida's second story quest is all about the Dendro dragon Apep. Fontaine's hydro dragon is rumored to be dead or at least long gone from Fontaine as far as people are concerned but current archon quest and leaks heavily imply Neuvilette is the hydro dragon reincarnated as man (as prophecy foretold in Enkanomiya).

Personally I'm loving exploring underwater, the OST and the visuals are an amazing experience, the lighting during the different hours of the day can change quite a lot
Combat is fine, parrying with the crab is pretty fun and there's some creativity here and there in the puzzles with different combat skills

Fontaine exploration as a whole is pretty good. I feel like I like it more solely because of how fricking atrocious the last two desert regions were rather than Fontaine having done anything special.
Combat on land is good, some of the new enemies will frick your day up by themselves if you just frick around instead of killing them asap, most enemies in Sumeru felt like they only did that when combo'd through multiple elements as the eremite camps usually involved two elemental types, or the consecrated beasts which were pretty rare.
Underwater combat is ass though. There's pretty much no depth to it and it's insanely repetitive because there's no actual variety even though there are 3 different types of skills to absorb from fishes, every designated encounter using either is always the same, there's no strategy and the crab shield counter feels stupid to use because you just hold it til you get hit then release, there's zero timing involved. The first "legend" crab was fun, seeing another 10min later being the exact same thing and is just 90% a waiting game of it attacking so you can counter it is stupid. Overall 8/19 on land, 6/10 underwater because combat is shit.
Also only MC and Fontaine characters can seamlessly transition above and below water for whatever reason which is gay as frick, there aren't even any unique animations between characters so it's just pure laziness or greed by MHY to restrict it like that.
Fair points, I haven't played that much underwater so I couldn't notice most of these issues, shame there's only 3 of those special mobs, hopefully they can add more in the upcoming expansions and give them nicer skills to make the combat better
On the upside, combat underwater is rarely forced, pretty much every fish is non-hostile and only the mechs are aggressive. Visually it all looks great and it controls relatively smoothly (I do wish you could up vertical camera sensitivity on controller though, it's way too fricking slow compared to horizontal). As far as pure exploration goes, my only real complaint would be that the water stamina bar should last twice as long. I was initially very reserved and expected the worst especially when I realized only the new characters can do the seamless transition onto land or dolphin jump but it's actually pretty decent.
Also big bonus for not arbitrarily locking shit out behind some obnoxiously long and shitty world quest, at least not that I've encountered yet anyway, big upgrade from Sumeru right there.

I wouldn't put too much stock into the craftable weapon to match the archon. The Sumeru catalyst didn't end up being all that useful for Nahida despite on paper it looking like it would cater to her.
Yeah. The only forged weapon that really specifically works with the Archon might be the Kitain Cross Spear, but there are more effective options. Inazuma gives you The Catch just by fishing. And even without The Catch, Prototype Starglitter is probably better on her.
See, you better really hope that Furina scales off of Atk for everything she does because this is an Atk sword. Its total Atk modifiers is the highest among the 4-star weapons provided you have all the procs. The problem, I suppose, is that no currently available sword user really needs a weapon like this. On max procs it probably has the single highest overall Atk rating in the game among swords. No one actually needs that much Atk because most sword characters have other priorities. Incidentally, Bennett only scales off of base Atk so the substat and passives do absolutely nothing for him.
So in order for this to provide value to Furina, she's gonna really, really want more Atk.

Why do they keep adding so many boring atk% weapons? We have such major overlap in this category now it feels like none have a specific niche and they're all basically filler. I have a hard time average players do weekly bosses and have a stack of billets they're just waiting to use for fashion impact
Easiest way to add a functional weapon for free without making it useless. In contrast majority of the craftable catalysts are fricking garbage but the Fontaine one looks actually decent as a general DPS catalyst unlike every other they have added so far.
In general there's a fair few craftable weapons that are really good, hell Prototype Crescent when you can activate its effect is still among the strongest DPS bows in the game and it's completely free, Hamayumi is a good close second for when you can't activate Crescents passive.
If I stop rolling and wait for her, I'm good. But man I just wanted to either have both twins, or just level Lynette constellations, yet I've gotren nothing but Beneth in 70 rolls. I'm torn on wether to stop or do one more.

Even an entire year of full clear abyss only gives you 90 rolls, that is n ot even enough to 100% guarantee a single character without guarantee and by itself wont be enough to future clear abyss for an entire year as you need multiple characters.
You are literally better off not doing abyss (or at least not 36*) and just go for characters you want than spend on shit you don't want just to have an easier time in abyss.

Nilou works well with kokomi, nahida, yelan, xingqiu, yaoyao, alhaithem, candace, kirara and anyone else who can apply dendro and hydro effectively. She's especially good with nahida and is one of the most meta teams (they have to make the abyss specifically have enemies that are resistant to dendro some months otherwise nilou bloom is an easy 36 star clear). You also need a healer so you'll want to run yaoyao or kokomi. You can run kirara and use a shield instead but generally that's a little more advanced since it will take timing her shields.

The bad thing about getting burned on a banner and dropping the game is you're going to be hurting if you pick it up again because there's a character you want to roll for. Archon is in 11 weeks so you should be able to get a shot at a coinflip if you welkin. If you lost your last coinflip she's guaranteed

Use the free blue fates for your 20 rolls on beginner, yes. It goes away after 20 rolls. Basically a tutorial for the gacha system. Save your primogems and pink fates for the rotating banner
Beginner banner is guaranteed to give you Noelle, who is terrible nowaday for anything "meta", but by far the best girl when you begin - since she can heal, deal damage, tank, mine ore, etc.

Hydro Loom is good with Nilou. Also you have to do a quest to get the Fontaine commisions, it's literally just talking with katheryne you should have it.

If it works like it did for Sumeru and Inazuma you need to wait for daily reset after you cleared the archon quest, Katherine should have a quest marker after to unlock it.

I just can't do it anymore with the slow dialog and the sheer length these quests go on for. The Eternal Oasis quest took me 5 hours to complete, and most of it is just dialog dialog dialog. I started the quest with the Wanderer and had to sit through two 30 minute flashback cutscenes with two who? characters.
Despite all of it, I feel obligated to play it because I spent quite a bit of money on it. I know I can't get back what I spent and the huge risks involved but I just want to sell it off and move on. I'll comeback when the game is fully complete with a private server and hopefully a cutscene skip is added. It's amazing how much more streamlined Honkai Star Rail is but the characters and gameplay are ass so it doesn't appeal to me.
