The game is made to be beaten by 8-year-olds and almost all rewards are obtained by beating the easiest difficulty settings. If you like the game and wanna support it lightly, there are the “Welkin” and battle pass means of “subscriptions,” which are $5 and $10 respectively for some additional resources and gacha rolls.
To be fair some of them also have nice abilities for when you're running around, like Kirara most recently. That's my main motivation for getting characters, I just slap together a random team of dudes that let me run or climb faster or something

It depends on what you want to do, man. If you want to be 100% f2p you're just gonna have to cope with the fact that you're going to have to play every day and do your dailies / events. You get a handful of "free" character as you progress the story and challenges which range from unusable (Amber) to absolutely busted (Xiangling). The abyss is the "end-game" for whales and it's not really worth doing but if all you want to do is clear the story and explore then you can do that with what they give you. Mihoyo made it so you can clear all challenges and puzzles with the characters they give you.
the game is worth it for the exploration alone, it mogs botw in every way.

There's nothing copy pasted in Genshin cave design, though. If you are dropped in any random Genshin cave in the game, you can immediatly tell which region it is and from which section of that region because they are so distinct.

The short version is that the beta gameplay is good but the director was a huge combatgay and wanted that to be the focus of the game over the exploration.
Brief power struggle ensued and he got canned but he was also the one that did a lot of the heavier lifting on the project in terms of design and oversight.
Since the beta there have only been three new characters made and only one of them is "ready" in any sense.
Right now the project has no director and the team are flailing blindly, they have until November to have something resembling a vision for the game being that it's meant to be Genshin Automata.

Kazuha will give you 0.25 seconds worth of climbing stamina every 6 seconds, he's not changing shit. All Mond/Liyue cliffs in Genshin are designed to be scalable through a wind totem or walkable slope hidden somewhere in the map. And since Inazuma, climbing itself is suboptimal since you can fly vertically fly everywhere.
kazuha allows you to climb infinitely with zero stamina simply by waiting a few seconds between Es. you can get anywhere in the game with him.

Recently came back to Genshin to prepare for Fontaine and holy shit is it so much better than BoTW/ToTK. Sure the story can feel redundant at times, but at least there is a story unlike the absolute low effort crap zelda pulls. It's very fun to explore the beautiful map and experience the rich music that accompanies its many unique zones. Artifact grind only matters if you're anal about having high numbers that far surpass what you need for the story.
