noticed nobody told you, 80>90 doesn't make that big of a difference except on elemental reaction trigger characters, if your struggling to afford it your better off filling out your roster so you can mix and match for the situation and just 90 the critical characters (for example if doing a hyperbloom team just the Electro trigger matters)

that is more or less what i meant, it takes alot of materials and resin to just 90 one character let alone a set of them so i wanted to make it clear what you can comfortably get away with for at least a while.
I can't enjoy the game because after rolling for character, i need to farm artifacts for them, level them up, their weapons and their skills, it's a fricking chore that could take at least a month. the fricking grind is so obnoxious that i don't have any desire to wish for new characters anymore
Because of the first anni I installed and tried it out the trials for some of the new characters to see if they'd improved anything.
All the animations of the new characters are stiff as frick compared to the early ones, the SFX sound is ridiculously bad and the events are a mess to go through with all the different tabs then there's the new areas which I have no clue how to unlock since the game says frick all about it. It was an unpolished gem in 1.0 but now it's just trash.
For me it's the fact that Star Rail keeps mogging it.

It's more like the Archons, except for Venti, are apathetic about their Gnoses. A decent part of Inazuma's quest talks about how as time wears on, Archons are subject to mental decay, one side effect of which is apathy. Zhongli mentions the idea too. It's very reasonable to believe that they stopped caring about their Gnoses because it's "just" their link to Celestia.
$60 in genshin can get me the most beautiful waifu or some cool dude with unique mechanics that changes my entire playstyle. Meanhile $60 for BoTW gets you... muddy grasslands with meaningless puzzles?

I personally prefer the rainforest. It's the place you first get into Sumeru and get falsely lulled into thinking this is what the green parts of Sumeru are like.
But no. Al of the extra sound effects really selling the feeling of a storm inside a true jungle are exclusive to that tiny smear on a map.
If there's one aspect of Genshin I could overhaul I'd probably redistribute some of the 4* weapons and relics drop to overworld areas so we have a reason to return to it after the story is done. They spend all that time making areas but doesn't really give you a reason to return to it. Feels like a missed opportunity.

I still have some stuff unfinished in Enka, and the ghost island in Inazuma too. There were still some ghosts that wanted me to find something somewhere but I don't like looking that stuff up, I've been thinking I'll just run into it at some point. But then I never actually go to those places so that's not really going to happen
As someone who owns both they're really only superficially similar. Albedo provides really nice defensive utility and his 21k ticks won't frick around with your othe reactions. I haven't run the team in ages, but Hu Tao/XQ/ZL/Albedo is hilariously free damage with no fear of death.
As for Dehya, her only real unique use is to make burning relevant, which only matters for Cryo units since Dendro hates them. Ganyu/Nahida/Dehya/??? is a viable comp.

I just beat the mondstadt prologue and reached Liyue, the only characters I have are the four starters plus Noelle, Barbara, Bennett, and Kaveh, what should my team look like?

Literally the strongest healer in the game. And in next patch, you'll get an free copy of him, bringing him to C1, making him completely busted. Run him.
Go try to do the Spiral Abyss stuff to unlock Xiangling.
Then you can run Kaveh (main DPS), Xiangling (sub DPS, dump her shit and swap off), Bennett (dump his ult and forget about it), and maybe Barbara as your 4th just for some backup healing since you won't have 100% uptime on Bennett's heals for a while.
Your primary reaction will be Burning (Dendro + Pyro) and it will hurt you a good bit, but the damage is decent enough.
Oh also, when you need to start pushing Kaveh up, but don't have the mats for him, just walk to Sumeru. It's to the west of Liyue and there's no walls or anything stopping you.
Okay. The single most busted Support in the entire game whose sole drawback is that you can never make him C6 without severely fricking up many team compositions.

It's that little remote island out to the east of Mondstadt. The lower, weird crescent one, not the lumpy one. To get there, you can either frost walk via Kaeya or do it the intended way and use the void portal on the southeast corner of the map.
I beat floor 1 easy but didn't get any stars in floor 2 so I guess I need to level up my characters.
Content-wise, try to do as much of the events as you can because they're going away in a few days.
You probably haven't started it yet, but the Mirage event can be quick-started, skipping over all the requirements. It's on the event page for it. You can get a lot of Primos out of it and there's fairly little combat. There's one combat minigame and you can skip it. This event gives you a free 4* character as well, so it's one I'd suggest doing to pad out your roster.
I guess I'll start on this now and skip the prerequisites because it's going to end soon and I just want to collect the characters
Unrelated note but I have 1500+ primos and I really want to spend all of them but I want to save just in case the next characters are going to be good. Should I save or spend now? The only character I really want is Rosalia from the current wish

I'll go ahead and tell you that both of the current 5* characters are very good, but for different reasons. >Kokomi
She has one of the best off-field Hydro skills in the game, lasting a very long time and applying the Hydro effect very often. She is amazing for basically any Hydro reaction AND is also a healer. >Wanderer
A very fun character because he can literally fricking fly... for a short while. He makes exploration significantly easier because you can just ignore large chunks of terrain/mechanics and just fly to what you want. Combat-wise, he's still very good and is the kind of character where you don't really need to worry about elemental reactions, you just stack raw damage. You'll also get plenty of Swirls off while Bennett's ult is on the field for a bit of extra damage.
As for the 4*s, they're all fine, Faruzan is Wanderer's best support, Yanfei is mechanically really boring.
Next few patches have lots of new characters and some returning good ones, like Raiden Shogun.
Some math bullshit for you: You get around 50-60 pulls per patch. It's upwards of 90 pulls per 5* and 180 pulls to guarantee you get a character. This is because you only have a 50% chance to get the character on banner. After losing a 50/50, the next one off a limited banner is guaranteed to be the listed character. Early on, you might be desperate for characters, but you actually have a pretty competent lineup available already, so you can afford to be a little picky.

Decently lengthy. You're going to visit each section of it once for a machine part, then assemble the machine. And then it'll conclude and you can do the aftermath quest (which also gives Primos). And then focus on exploration. Even if it's only 5 pulls or so for getting all the chests, you can't ever get these again, unlike normal area chests.

Sumeru intro is a slog. I played on release and I can't bring myself to complete it. IT's the same 2 plot points repeated for several cutscenes, with the tree vision and the c**t's sickness making her evasive or whatever

Liyue starts strong talking about more or less "stealing the corpse of a god." But then it turns out Zhongli is a fricking psychotic moron and is just sending us on literal fricking errands for NO ACTUAL REASON.
Inazuma's start is absolute dogshit, since we go from doing errands for tradesmen to.. doing errands for tradesmen. It smooths out as you progress and touches on some interesting topics, but presents it in a miserably boring way. By the end, it gets its shit together.
Sumeru is like Inazuma in that regard of having interesting topics, but presenting it poorly, then improving greatly as you progress. However, the final step before another visit with Dain is nearly a fricking hour of just having people vomit exposition at you. Holy shit, that was awful.
I felt like Inazuma shat the bed around the Watatsumi Island section like what the frick was that all about? The entire Raiden thing and training with Yae Miko was cool.

I know this game doesn't do playable character bosses other than weeklies, but storywise Sara really needed to be a boss fight. We fought 2 random nobodies instead in the "war", kek.
Star Rail has character bosses (currently only 2, 3 if you count the Bronya add in Simulated Universe). It's definitely something they could try here more.
Inazuma's start is interesting because it feels like you don't belong there and you aren't supposed to be there due to the ban on travelers, then unable to be able to leave the intro section.
You learn about the shogun through exposition and honestly, at that time without knowing spoilers, knowing there was a villain archon was cool as shit. You worked your way towards inazuma, and through the story, it felt like you were always wanted and gave you a sense of subterfuge as you form part of the rebellion and make friends with people that avoided the vision confiscations

ya if you have autojoin on people will enter your world, mine everything, kill everything, pick up everything, then you wont have anything left for yourself to collect
If you're the host you can kick people immediately, any drops from defeating enemies spawn for you as well, and like the other anon mentions, they can't open chests or begin overworld challenges, and while annoying and quasi-griefing, overworld spawns like mineral ores and local flora respawn I think after 2 server daily resets iirc. Annoying when you're low level and you really need those resources for cooking food and leveling up but trivial past the mid-game.

You need to reach adventure rank 16 first, then you should see the pop up that the coop is unlocked, after that whatever the anons above said.
You can join other players' world so you can help them or take their ressources. The latter seems to be a b***h move but it's so you can raise your characters without having to wait for the ascensions materials to respawn. If you do that, don't forget to ask before taking their ressources so you don't come across as a c**t.
Once you unlock co-op you get a list of players you can send join requests to. If they accept, you join their world for co-op. They can also set auto-join and you'll instantly jump into their world just from asking. You can also set auto-reject so you don't get requests. Some players even put in their signature: "open world for farming, take anything, I'm AFK, etc." so you can jump in to get extra mats you need without having to wait for your own to respawn in 24~72 hours. If you have friends to play with you can go around killing things together and share the drops, help each other with world bosses, domains, etc. Early on it gives you a nice surplus of supplies and changes the dynamic of how you play(and slows down the rate things get boring). If you co-op with one other player you each use two characters, etc. You can also have a high level player carry you if needed.

I'm not looking forward to fontaine. I believe it's going to be the shittiest region to date. Maybe all a setup for when 5.0 releases and the Pyro nation turns fire under our ass. Wishful thinking, but the gameplay is getting stale, I'd have to admit. I've been playing since day1 and I couldn't bring myself to complete this summer event yet.
Don't know how the pyro area is going to work out. Genshin devs already signaled they hate brown people with permanently gimped dehya and xinyan etx. An area filled with nothing but brown people including the archon? Good lord...

I haven't played since the game first came out. I wanna get back into it but completely forgot everything from how to play or what to do but I'm progressed in the story and some characters I got from early banners. How can I ease myself back into the game and get into swing of things again?
The game is not exactly rocket science so it should come back to on it's own you fairly quickly, I think. If not I bet there's about a million "ULTIMATE BEGINNER'S GUIDE!!11!!" videos on youtube or people doing checklists of things to do each day. Or find just some let's play and have it play in the background.

I haven't advanced the main story other than doing the homosexual puppet's character quest. How much catching up do I have to do? I named him gaylord or gaylord or something, I can't remember.
There's been one other Archon quest since then related to the Abyss. It's a pretty good one (still once again a lot of setup and no pay off so far like all the other Abyss quests but still good), and it takes like 1-2 hours at best/worst.

Yes but without at least getting a Welkins you're only gonna be able to pull a 5* realistically every two months or so. Welkins makes it more or less one month but you have to log in every day. The Battle Pass is far less necessary, and if they cycled out the old weapons for the new ones instead of letting you pick between the two then it's even worse now. The Battle Pass will save you months of time waiting for events, the Teapot, and general content when it comes to weapon EXP crystals, character EXP books, and Mora, but you need to buy it for about three or four months before you actually see any sort of advantage. They put a lot of effort in the playable character animation but the mechanics of the gameplay don't allow you to slow down and enjoy them. See for yourself, select any character at random and go to a no enemy zone like the middle of Liyue harbor, then press normal attack slowly so you can see the animation for their normal attack chain.
dmc, barbs, fischl on one side, yaoyao, xq, lisa on the other. these are all characters that have been freely given in events, you can swap lisa for kuki to make that team much comfier but kuki hasn't been free yet. f2p being able to throw together two hyperbloom teams with only free characters is very likely the reason the past few abyss cycles have all been shield checks instead of dps checks.
i personally would run national one side and hyperbloom on the other if you asked me what f2p teams to run, but you didnt ask that, you wanted two f2p hyperbloom teams. it doen't matter too much for this current abyss though since this one is extremely easy it couldnt shill eula if it was actually hard lmao

There are some QoL in Star Rail because Mihoyo wants to keep the grind to a certain level of painful. Being able to select a specific main stat for an artifact once or twice per version in Genshin would be fantastic, but it's more of a necessity in Star Rail since you have 6 relics instead of 5, you need to farm for 2 sets minimum (the 4 pc one and the 2pc one), and you can't have an off-piece relic. I'm not saying that since Star Rail got this QoL, Genshin can't have it, but it's unlikely that Mihoyo is gonna implement it because Star Rail is grindier compared to Genshin.
The self modelling resin acts as a form of bad luck protection, and I can agree with you that the potential for bad luck is higher in Star Rail for the reasons you outlined, but having any protection is infinitely better than having no protection, no recourse at all.
You can get unlucky in Genshin and simply not see certain pieces, ever. Some units might be extremely picky about what they want.
Interested in building Sucrose for example? Well you're going to want 4p VV of course, so that means you need a minimum of 2/3 right side pieces with EM main stat.
It's possible to never see that for months, or years, cups and circlets can roll so many different main stats, that's if you even get them, that's if you even get VV instead of Maiden.
Even if Genshin has less RNG, it's marginally less, and the bad RNG protection Star Rail provides is astronomically greater (pun intended).

The game is at the shitty period of waiting for new area to open up, nothing new. Previous area is done and then there's a month or two of dailies sprinkled with some irrelevant mini events. Once there's new shit to explore it will be better again.
Hard to give MHY the benefit of the doubt when they took a great design, censored it, and then fricked her kit to the point of uselessness and threw her into the standard banner.
The 3.X series were overall worse than the 2.X series. 3.0 to 3.2 were a great start but the constant desert areas and uninteresting events kinda killed my enthusiasm. At least Fontaine looks much better so I hope the following versions aren't a let down. The community definitely got worse tho and the Star Rail tribalism didn't help.

take a look at the leaked passives of the new fontaine characters, they all reduce stamina usage while underwater/increase stamina regen from collecting orbs underwater. it's literally stamina based exploration like climbing.

Having recently finished Sumeru, I have a question for the loregays.
Is Forbidden Knowledge just knowing that the world is actually hell and any direct references to this fact, so it "corrupting" the world is actually just reverting it to what it's supposed to be?
Since so much of Sumeru lore is based on Hinduism, rather than mere factual or logical knowledge it's implied to be a kind of enlightenment, a connection to a higher will from which this forbidden knowledge comes from. Basically it's like a computer virus that alters one's being just by being in attunement with it. It's never implied to be just some awareness of some kind of material fact.

My own guess is some mindfrick about the elements. But that's mostly my interpretation why the sibling wants to destroy the gods and frick off from the world, the Sumeru sickness was basically people dying from elemental energy surging in their body, petrifying it, etc.

My only gripe with the deserts was that it was all basically the same color. A lot of underground tunnels that were just brown rock and samey dungeons. In Inazuma my issue is that the islands were cooler before we fixed them. One island had the constant storm, the ghost island had the red fog etc., then they just became kinda bland after we removed those things
Oh yeah I had forgotten the pyramid had that storm around it. At least the tornado area still keeps the sandstorms, I think it looks cool. Just as long as you don't equip the lantern
The 2nd desert was dogshit and is easily the worst area in the game with its only redeeming qualities being the Eternal Oasis and the side-quests. The 1st and 3rd deserts were good however, but I would still have preferred more diverse environment like in the 2.X updates.
So I just got to rank 23 so I can continue Liyue story quests, and I finished the summer event, invited Layla and hoarded 2500+ primos with Dendro traveler. What should I do now? Wanderer and Rosalia are the only two characters that I want from the banner and I don't have that many characters, only the starters plus Noelle, Barbara, Bennett, Kaveh and Layla. A better bow or a spear character would be nice
Wait for 4.0 and get Yelan as she is nothing but perfect for almost any team. While you are doing this clear Liyue and explore both Liyue and Mondstadt. If you feel like you can handle samurai and robots well enough only then wander around Inazuma because the enemies there are fairly tanky. You can also explore Sumeru if you want but the issue with exploring Sumeru is like 40% of the first map's various aspects are locked behind Aranara songs, the second desert is locked behind you getting Clearance from the Golden Slumber quest, the third desert is locked behind the second desert's quest, and the fourth desert is mostly explorable without Sorush.
I liked the desert overall, dunes with ruins and pyramids sticking out of them and underground tombs/cave systems are my fricking jam, what I'm getting kinda bored of is the constant cycle of >new side area that is adjacent to the "main" area with the capital city is introduced >has some sort of disaster/doomsday device/ominous looking thing at it's center

noticed nobody told you, 80>90 doesn't make that big of a difference except on elemental reaction trigger characters, if your struggling to afford it your better off filling out your roster so you can mix and match for the situation and just 90 the critical characters (for example if doing a hyperbloom team just the Electro trigger matters)

Because of the first anni I installed and tried it out the trials for some of the new characters to see if they'd improved anything.
All the animations of the new characters are stiff as frick compared to the early ones, the SFX sound is ridiculously bad and the events are a mess to go through with all the different tabs then there's the new areas which I have no clue how to unlock since the game says frick all about it. It was an unpolished gem in 1.0 but now it's just trash.

It's more like the Archons, except for Venti, are apathetic about their Gnoses. A decent part of Inazuma's quest talks about how as time wears on, Archons are subject to mental decay, one side effect of which is apathy. Zhongli mentions the idea too. It's very reasonable to believe that they stopped caring about their Gnoses because it's "just" their link to Celestia.

If there's one aspect of Genshin I could overhaul I'd probably redistribute some of the 4* weapons and relics drop to overworld areas so we have a reason to return to it after the story is done. They spend all that time making areas but doesn't really give you a reason to return to it. Feels like a missed opportunity.

As someone who owns both they're really only superficially similar. Albedo provides really nice defensive utility and his 21k ticks won't frick around with your othe reactions. I haven't run the team in ages, but Hu Tao/XQ/ZL/Albedo is hilariously free damage with no fear of death.
As for Dehya, her only real unique use is to make burning relevant, which only matters for Cryo units since Dendro hates them. Ganyu/Nahida/Dehya/??? is a viable comp.

I just beat the mondstadt prologue and reached Liyue, the only characters I have are the four starters plus Noelle, Barbara, Bennett, and Kaveh, what should my team look like?

Go try to do the Spiral Abyss stuff to unlock Xiangling.
Then you can run Kaveh (main DPS), Xiangling (sub DPS, dump her shit and swap off), Bennett (dump his ult and forget about it), and maybe Barbara as your 4th just for some backup healing since you won't have 100% uptime on Bennett's heals for a while.
Your primary reaction will be Burning (Dendro + Pyro) and it will hurt you a good bit, but the damage is decent enough.
Oh also, when you need to start pushing Kaveh up, but don't have the mats for him, just walk to Sumeru. It's to the west of Liyue and there's no walls or anything stopping you.
downplaying bennett as "the strongest healer" is probably the worst way to describe him.
Okay. The single most busted Support in the entire game whose sole drawback is that you can never make him C6 without severely fricking up many team compositions.

It's that little remote island out to the east of Mondstadt. The lower, weird crescent one, not the lumpy one. To get there, you can either frost walk via Kaeya or do it the intended way and use the void portal on the southeast corner of the map.

I'll go ahead and tell you that both of the current 5* characters are very good, but for different reasons.

She has one of the best off-field Hydro skills in the game, lasting a very long time and applying the Hydro effect very often. She is amazing for basically any Hydro reaction AND is also a healer.

A very fun character because he can literally fricking fly... for a short while. He makes exploration significantly easier because you can just ignore large chunks of terrain/mechanics and just fly to what you want. Combat-wise, he's still very good and is the kind of character where you don't really need to worry about elemental reactions, you just stack raw damage. You'll also get plenty of Swirls off while Bennett's ult is on the field for a bit of extra damage.
As for the 4*s, they're all fine, Faruzan is Wanderer's best support, Yanfei is mechanically really boring.
Next few patches have lots of new characters and some returning good ones, like Raiden Shogun.
Some math bullshit for you: You get around 50-60 pulls per patch. It's upwards of 90 pulls per 5* and 180 pulls to guarantee you get a character. This is because you only have a 50% chance to get the character on banner. After losing a 50/50, the next one off a limited banner is guaranteed to be the listed character. Early on, you might be desperate for characters, but you actually have a pretty competent lineup available already, so you can afford to be a little picky.
It sounds like Wanderer is busted so maybe I'll spend all my primos trying to get him when I'm done with the summer quest. Also, did Paimon's voice actor grow up or is it different? Because the voice is different. And why does Klee sound way older than she really is?
We aren't really sure what Klee actually is. You're also going to be missing some context cause you haven't done character story quests. Klee is, for lack of a better term, socially inept, very child-like, and loves bombs.
Paimon's VA likely shifted slightly as time went on, I personally didn't notice a major difference.

Decently lengthy. You're going to visit each section of it once for a machine part, then assemble the machine. And then it'll conclude and you can do the aftermath quest (which also gives Primos). And then focus on exploration. Even if it's only 5 pulls or so for getting all the chests, you can't ever get these again, unlike normal area chests.

you get Layla partway through doing a bunch of Minigames. If you've already gotten the 3rd part, then you can start playing them already. Spinblaster, the fox balloon.. thing, and Curling. And also the fight one, but it sucks.

As far as being a villain, he plays a very minor role overall until the 4th region. I won't spoil anything, but despite meeting him first in Inazuma, his story is told in Sumeru.

Content-wise, try to do as much of the events as you can because they're going away in a few days.
You probably haven't started it yet, but the Mirage event can be quick-started, skipping over all the requirements. It's on the event page for it. You can get a lot of Primos out of it and there's fairly little combat. There's one combat minigame and you can skip it. This event gives you a free 4* character as well, so it's one I'd suggest doing to pad out your roster.
unlock xiangling and xinqiu and you will have a pretty good team

The entrance to Fontaine is through there, so you might as well go unlock all the warps if nothing else.
Anyone at a high enough adventure rank after finishing Monstadt will get the nearby waypoint automatically unlocked they said on the livestream.
There's usually some quests that require a few daily resets so maybe not. You can try to do what you can though.
100% completion might take a while but iirc the main side quests aren't that long if you ignore all distractions.

Sumeru intro is a slog. I played on release and I can't bring myself to complete it. IT's the same 2 plot points repeated for several cutscenes, with the tree vision and the c**t's sickness making her evasive or whatever

Inazuma's start is absolute dogshit, since we go from doing errands for tradesmen to.. doing errands for tradesmen. It smooths out as you progress and touches on some interesting topics, but presents it in a miserably boring way. By the end, it gets its shit together.
Sumeru is like Inazuma in that regard of having interesting topics, but presenting it poorly, then improving greatly as you progress. However, the final step before another visit with Dain is nearly a fricking hour of just having people vomit exposition at you. Holy shit, that was awful.
I felt like Inazuma shat the bed around the Watatsumi Island section like what the frick was that all about? The entire Raiden thing and training with Yae Miko was cool.
Kokomi section was basically shoved in at the last minute I feel.
I know this game doesn't do playable character bosses other than weeklies, but storywise Sara really needed to be a boss fight. We fought 2 random nobodies instead in the "war", kek.
Star Rail has character bosses (currently only 2, 3 if you count the Bronya add in Simulated Universe). It's definitely something they could try here more.
Inazuma's start is interesting because it feels like you don't belong there and you aren't supposed to be there due to the ban on travelers, then unable to be able to leave the intro section.
You learn about the shogun through exposition and honestly, at that time without knowing spoilers, knowing there was a villain archon was cool as shit. You worked your way towards inazuma, and through the story, it felt like you were always wanted and gave you a sense of subterfuge as you form part of the rebellion and make friends with people that avoided the vision confiscations

none of the things they can take are important. it'll just respawn.
If you're the host you can kick people immediately, any drops from defeating enemies spawn for you as well, and like the other anon mentions, they can't open chests or begin overworld challenges, and while annoying and quasi-griefing, overworld spawns like mineral ores and local flora respawn I think after 2 server daily resets iirc. Annoying when you're low level and you really need those resources for cooking food and leveling up but trivial past the mid-game.

You need to reach adventure rank 16 first, then you should see the pop up that the coop is unlocked, after that whatever the anons above said.
You can join other players' world so you can help them or take their ressources. The latter seems to be a b***h move but it's so you can raise your characters without having to wait for the ascensions materials to respawn. If you do that, don't forget to ask before taking their ressources so you don't come across as a c**t.
Once you unlock co-op you get a list of players you can send join requests to. If they accept, you join their world for co-op. They can also set auto-join and you'll instantly jump into their world just from asking. You can also set auto-reject so you don't get requests. Some players even put in their signature: "open world for farming, take anything, I'm AFK, etc." so you can jump in to get extra mats you need without having to wait for your own to respawn in 24~72 hours. If you have friends to play with you can go around killing things together and share the drops, help each other with world bosses, domains, etc. Early on it gives you a nice surplus of supplies and changes the dynamic of how you play(and slows down the rate things get boring). If you co-op with one other player you each use two characters, etc. You can also have a high level player carry you if needed.

Events have a skip feature that let you start them without doing the prerequisites. Only the Inazuma events required that you unlocked Ritou island
You can just walk to Sumeru and do the Sumeru events without even starting the Sumeru story

You get the little djinn near that first teleporter and it has 90% of its kit unlocked. The other 10% is literally only needed to access places for the world quest itself.

I haven't played since the game first came out. I wanna get back into it but completely forgot everything from how to play or what to do but I'm progressed in the story and some characters I got from early banners. How can I ease myself back into the game and get into swing of things again?
Play through the archon story. It'll guide you through the different regions, give you gems to pull, and get you caught up.
The game is not exactly rocket science so it should come back to on it's own you fairly quickly, I think. If not I bet there's about a million "ULTIMATE BEGINNER'S GUIDE!!11!!" videos on youtube or people doing checklists of things to do each day. Or find just some let's play and have it play in the background.
It's just as easy as it was in 1.0. Just go out there and smack some hilichurls to get the feel of how to play and how you want to progress.

There's been one other Archon quest since then related to the Abyss. It's a pretty good one (still once again a lot of setup and no pay off so far like all the other Abyss quests but still good), and it takes like 1-2 hours at best/worst.

Yes but without at least getting a Welkins you're only gonna be able to pull a 5* realistically every two months or so. Welkins makes it more or less one month but you have to log in every day. The Battle Pass is far less necessary, and if they cycled out the old weapons for the new ones instead of letting you pick between the two then it's even worse now. The Battle Pass will save you months of time waiting for events, the Teapot, and general content when it comes to weapon EXP crystals, character EXP books, and Mora, but you need to buy it for about three or four months before you actually see any sort of advantage. One BP is like one character from 0 to 80, not even 90.

Yes but no, it depends on your team composition, and some characters like Eula aren't great at all. They're serviceable on the best of days and many characters are intended to be supports or one specific gimmick like Mona so you won't have them on field often.

No, you have to do it yourself manually with throwaway e-mail accounts until you get the limited banner character you want that is currently running or a standard character you want. It is genuinely easier to just buy a starter account but that's not a 0 risk thing in the long run.

Post 2 effective hyperbloom teams that could reliably 36 star abyss that don't depend on having specific limited banner 5-star characters
dmc, barbs, fischl on one side, yaoyao, xq, lisa on the other. these are all characters that have been freely given in events, you can swap lisa for kuki to make that team much comfier but kuki hasn't been free yet. f2p being able to throw together two hyperbloom teams with only free characters is very likely the reason the past few abyss cycles have all been shield checks instead of dps checks.

There are some QoL in Star Rail because Mihoyo wants to keep the grind to a certain level of painful. Being able to select a specific main stat for an artifact once or twice per version in Genshin would be fantastic, but it's more of a necessity in Star Rail since you have 6 relics instead of 5, you need to farm for 2 sets minimum (the 4 pc one and the 2pc one), and you can't have an off-piece relic. I'm not saying that since Star Rail got this QoL, Genshin can't have it, but it's unlikely that Mihoyo is gonna implement it because Star Rail is grindier compared to Genshin.
The self modelling resin acts as a form of bad luck protection, and I can agree with you that the potential for bad luck is higher in Star Rail for the reasons you outlined, but having any protection is infinitely better than having no protection, no recourse at all.
You can get unlucky in Genshin and simply not see certain pieces, ever. Some units might be extremely picky about what they want.
Interested in building Sucrose for example? Well you're going to want 4p VV of course, so that means you need a minimum of 2/3 right side pieces with EM main stat.
It's possible to never see that for months, or years, cups and circlets can roll so many different main stats, that's if you even get them, that's if you even get VV instead of Maiden.
Even if Genshin has less RNG, it's marginally less, and the bad RNG protection Star Rail provides is astronomically greater (pun intended).

Fontaine is full of water, but I imagine relatively few combat environments will have enough water to reliably permafreeze everything.

The game is at the shitty period of waiting for new area to open up, nothing new. Previous area is done and then there's a month or two of dailies sprinkled with some irrelevant mini events. Once there's new shit to explore it will be better again.

Hard to give MHY the benefit of the doubt when they took a great design, censored it, and then fricked her kit to the point of uselessness and threw her into the standard banner.
The 3.X series were overall worse than the 2.X series. 3.0 to 3.2 were a great start but the constant desert areas and uninteresting events kinda killed my enthusiasm. At least Fontaine looks much better so I hope the following versions aren't a let down. The community definitely got worse tho and the Star Rail tribalism didn't help.

take a look at the leaked passives of the new fontaine characters, they all reduce stamina usage while underwater/increase stamina regen from collecting orbs underwater. it's literally stamina based exploration like climbing.
The stamina is just for sprinting, it's literally the same as running on land.
It's not like you run out and drown.

Yeah as far as I can tell the swimming works the same way as flying with that one thing. You have a stamina bar for flying faster but you can just keep floating forever

Since so much of Sumeru lore is based on Hinduism, rather than mere factual or logical knowledge it's implied to be a kind of enlightenment, a connection to a higher will from which this forbidden knowledge comes from. Basically it's like a computer virus that alters one's being just by being in attunement with it. It's never implied to be just some awareness of some kind of material fact.

My own guess is some mindfrick about the elements. My only gripe with the deserts was that it was all basically the same color. A lot of underground tunnels that were just brown rock and samey dungeons. In Inazuma my issue is that the islands were cooler before we fixed them. One island had the constant storm, the ghost island had the red fog etc., then they just became kinda bland after we removed those things

Oh yeah I had forgotten the pyramid had that storm around it. At least the tornado area still keeps the sandstorms, I think it looks cool. Just as long as you don't equip the lantern
The 2nd desert was dogshit and is easily the worst area in the game with its only redeeming qualities being the Eternal Oasis and the side-quests. The 1st and 3rd deserts were good however, but I would still have preferred more diverse environment like in the 2.X updates.
So I just got to rank 23 so I can continue Liyue story quests, and I finished the summer event, invited Layla and hoarded 2500+ primos with Dendro traveler. What should I do now? Wanderer and Rosalia are the only two characters that I want from the banner and I don't have that many characters, only the starters plus Noelle, Barbara, Bennett, Kaveh and Layla. A better bow or a spear character would be nice
Wait for 4.0 and get Yelan as she is nothing but perfect for almost any team. While you are doing this clear Liyue and explore both Liyue and Mondstadt. If you feel like you can handle samurai and robots well enough only then wander around Inazuma because the enemies there are fairly tanky. You can also explore Sumeru if you want but the issue with exploring Sumeru is like 40% of the first map's various aspects are locked behind Aranara songs, the second desert is locked behind you getting Clearance from the Golden Slumber quest, the third desert is locked behind the second desert's quest, and the fourth desert is mostly explorable without Sorush.
I liked the desert overall, dunes with ruins and pyramids sticking out of them and underground tombs/cave systems are my fricking jam, what I'm getting kinda bored of is the constant cycle of
