Swimming in video games is usually the worst part of any game. It's impressive how Genshin avoids many pitfalls people have with swimming sections, but there's only so much people can take before novelty wears off. By the final patches of Fontaine everyone's gonna get sick of kirby fighting the same enemies over and over for more lore. Let's not forget that swimming sections are usually used to break up the pace in games to add variety, but this is an entire continent of water and we're here for a year.
I don’t think it’ll wear off for me at least. The appeal is that it’s beautiful and relaxing underwater and feels nice to move around. The kirby combat is just a bonus. Besides there’s gonna be plenty of underwater caves and buildings where you fight normally.
Is the standard wish worth it if I just want to get new characters? The last three times I hit it I got Kaveh, Bennett and Sucrose which I think are three pretty goof characters

Limited banners have far more characters. Standard banner will only get you the same small group over and over again. There is no point to wasting your resources on characters that you will get anyway with free wishes that accumulate every 15-30 days

So this Rene guy is the Sinner, right? From reading all of those insane pages, he apparently went full Lawnmower Man and set up shop in either the giant turtle, the chasm, or on Dragonspine.
So it makes sense that the guy who founded the abyss order saw him and was all like "I want in on that."
I want a Fontaine area that's equivalent to the Chasm and Enkanomiya that's just an abyss of ocean. All underwater that just keeps going down, down, deeper and deeper. Add a new pressure mechanic, and a Gadget that works both as a light source and as a pressure gauge, so when the Gadget runs out of power you start taking damage like in Dragonspine's extreme cold, and at the very bottom is a weekly boss that's just a giant Leviathan.
Based environmental hazard enjoyer. I'd love a complex sewer system or a huge underwater city with air/pressure pockets inside the buildings as safe spots.
Maybe aside of using the leviathan as a boss fight, make it hunt the player but with more "range" than the Wenut, make it real scary.
Not horror, just sense of urgency like in Dragonspine, inside the Mikage Furnace or around the Wenut hunting grounds. Fontaine, just like every nation is going to have its own "scary" zone, we are just speculating.

On one hand, the idea of suddenly coming across an enormous underwater ocean inhabited by monsters makes my blood run cold. The visual of an endless screen of blue that only gets darker and darker alone is enough to give me nightmares. On the other hand, I can't deny that the idea of a flooded "chasm" with its own deep-sea life and environmental hazards could be pretty kino. Imagine giant lanternfish.
I'm not up to speed on my Fonatine lore at the moment, so I don't know if the Primordial Sea is given a lot of lore yet, but that's the sort of image that I get when I think of its name.

they wont, they had interview with lead gameplay designer who made the swimming before the release, and he talked how he made sure that swimming is as comfy as possible and that there is no air system to not stress people out
There's an optional quest underwater that doesn't appear in your quest log. It's about a Blubberbeast that's caged and in poor health. You can visit him every other day to feed him and complete some tasks until he's finally healthy enough to be released. They will give you a luxurious chest and an achievement after you've completed it.
Yes, they do respawn. That shit is bugged and supposed to give you a chest when you free them all.
Come back after they respawn and they'll actually be out of the cage and the chest will be there for you. I have no idea why mihoyo made such a puzzle if they couldn't make it without fricking something up.
Really enjoying Fontaine, just finished the melusine world quest with Jakob, it was great one of my fav in the game.

Traveler and Paimon were blessed by Furina when they used the Statue of the Seven. They're functionally identical to how they act on land, they just traverse a bit differently. Normal humans need diving suits to go underwater at all. Keep in mind that there are multiple points where you are underwater and Traveler or Paimon talk about "smelling" something in the water and they do mean literally smelling it with their noses.
I thought they implied she also was blessed by it? I know she's able to go underwater but the way they seemed to word it all was that she's scared of going underwater because she won't be able to reorient herself and get swept away with the tides, and that she can't stay under it for long.
Waters of Fontaine are special. Vision Holders receive a blessing while they're there that allows them to breathe and speak underwater. Melusine are fundamentally aquatic creatures.
I'm going to drop a random 10 summons and get C2 Childe because that is exactly how I got two copies in the first place.
Both times I was just hoping to get one of new 4*.
I thought about quitting the game by the end of Sumeru. Haven't finished all the quests released during its patches because every dialogue is word diarrhea, extremely watery at that. And I also don't give a frick about some farmer who vanishes from the game once the quest is over.
Meanwhile, I managed to finish all the main and a few side quests in Fontaine while being at work, plus the story revolves around the characters, who will be or are playable. Not around literal whos they need to help.
Same boat but I can't even start the Fontaine questline because I have to complete other "story" quests before that.
I tried several times but it's just too boring.
They keep talking in circles and repeating everything 2 or 3 times, it's just not a good experience or a good read.
Very little gameplay involved too.
Mond and Inazuma quests weren't like this, although Inazuma's sidequests were and everyone hated them.

I've seen arguments against the translators elsewhere too. I'd like to think they are a problem, or rather are exacerbating one. Since translators aren't the ones deciding to make repeatable daily commissions with unskippable cutscenes. Like the Sumeru one involving some scholars getting their crates attacked by slimes. And the dialogue can be so excessive at times that I don't think mere incompetence makes sense. It is wordy by design. I hear the Chinks love this shit, but I could also see it as a way of bloating player retention time. I think it's plausible that's a metric MHY cares about.
We're about to venture into head-canon territory, but I can see how this metric would be used. Since they must have different teams working on different projects constantly they must also have a way of measuring success between teams. A team that can retain players for longer could get more praise, bonuses, etc. As we know the Chinks are shameless about abusing any system they can, regardless of the consequences (of which there aren't enough). So any team could just look at the current metrics and see that the average player spends X amount of time on lines of dialogue then add Y dialogue lines to their event. Y being more than they think they can get away with.
New project comes out, player retention is through the roof as people put the text on auto and check every once in a while. Dawei smiles at all the Eva merch he'll be able to buy, and the team gets kudos for clearly being good at their jobs. Devs go out to a nice restaurant to celebrate and eat food fried in gutter oil. Such is the beauty of the Chinese eco-system.
Nah, majority time players spent in game was doing exploration. E.g. I've spent like 4 hours the other day just exploring underwater region. Quests are wordy, but they ain't that time consuming. You feel that way because you want to skip it as fast as possible, so that one second feels like an hour. That wordy daily quest from sumeru doesn't even take more than a minute to go through, but it feels like an hour. They should add skip button for daily quest.
You do not understand. I didn't claim it took up the 'majority' of player's time at all. I'm talking about maximizing that number despite the detriment to the experience. If one version of quest dialogue takes 3 minutes to mash through and another takes 4 that might not seem like much, but that minor difference gets multiplied across the entire playerbase. This is also assuming mashing instead of reading or letting auto-play take the wheel. It's one simple trick that can make your project seem that much more impactful.
Take events like the one that just dropped. There is no new exploration tied to it so your response holds no bearing here. Each minigame takes a minute or two at the most. Once all three event quest chapters are out the sum of the time they take up will be greater than the time spent on minigames.

I know you are accusing them of bloating the game time with unskippable dialogue to meet some internal criteria. Taking the new event quest as an example, if they care about maximizing time, they can add scoreboard and achievement. It's the easiest way to extend the game time as players will spend needless amount of time replaying it for a higher score. Finally, you also forget that gacha game like genshin is made to take up less of your daily time as opposed to more of it. Inazuma wasn't as bad as Sumeru in these regards. It's too soon to call that obviously since we still have like 2 more regions to go. Some people didn't like sumeru because it's too big. Fontaine felt more compact. I thought they did well balancing the underwater area with dryland area. It made exploring less monotonous. I also liked how they told the archon story in the style that fits the Fontaine theme. This made the archon quest more memorable and fresh to me. I had to give credit to them for trying to do things differently with each new region.
The fact that they made a second roast chicken, and you eat them both, is perfect. Okay, I haven't eaten the second one yet, but that's because I'm so far beyond eating healing items now.
So this Rene guy is the Sinner, right? From reading all of those insane pages, he apparently went full Lawnmower Man and set up shop in either the giant turtle, the chasm, or on Dragonspine.
So it makes sense that the guy who founded the abyss order saw him and was all like "I want in on that."
Fontaine's sidequests are giving more important lore than the actual main quests in the game, what the frick.
They've been doing this since Inazuma at the very least. Fontaine's main story does name drop Jakob and slightly explain what he was doing, but all the deep juicy lore stuff and explanations about the work of turning people into Oceanids to survive Teyvat becoming drenched in the Abyss is left to the sidequests to explain.

i even enjoyed every part of the vourukasha oasis and feel like thats one of the best parts of the game, but this isnt popular opinion, i just read the lore so it had alot of impact.
so 4.0 started pretty strong but it also felt short, 4.1-4.2 will define the expansion, after that people will get tired of the swimming sections. "too much water!" unironically.
it will depend on what else we get in terms of continent design, we'll be filling in the gaps of mondstadt, liyue, and sumeru, and then get peaks at natlan.
i think it will feel diverse, and the lore will be very revealing immediately after reaching the floating cubes (it already is.) but the casuals are already burned out by too much sand, so too much water will probably kill alot of interest early.

Swimming in video games is usually the worst part of any game. It's impressive how Genshin avoids many pitfalls people have with swimming sections, but there's only so much people can take before novelty wears off. By the final patches of Fontaine everyone's gonna get sick of kirby fighting the same enemies over and over for more lore. Let's not forget that swimming sections are usually used to break up the pace in games to add variety, but this is an entire continent of water and we're here for a year.
I don’t think it’ll wear off for me at least. The appeal is that it’s beautiful and relaxing underwater and feels nice to move around. The kirby combat is just a bonus. Besides there’s gonna be plenty of underwater caves and buildings where you fight normally.

So this Rene guy is the Sinner, right? From reading all of those insane pages, he apparently went full Lawnmower Man and set up shop in either the giant turtle, the chasm, or on Dragonspine.
So it makes sense that the guy who founded the abyss order saw him and was all like "I want in on that."
I want a Fontaine area that's equivalent to the Chasm and Enkanomiya that's just an abyss of ocean. All underwater that just keeps going down, down, deeper and deeper. Add a new pressure mechanic, and a Gadget that works both as a light source and as a pressure gauge, so when the Gadget runs out of power you start taking damage like in Dragonspine's extreme cold, and at the very bottom is a weekly boss that's just a giant Leviathan.
Based environmental hazard enjoyer. I'd love a complex sewer system or a huge underwater city with air/pressure pockets inside the buildings as safe spots.
Maybe aside of using the leviathan as a boss fight, make it hunt the player but with more "range" than the Wenut, make it real scary.

On one hand, the idea of suddenly coming across an enormous underwater ocean inhabited by monsters makes my blood run cold. On the other hand, I can't deny that the idea of a flooded "chasm" with its own deep-sea life and environmental hazards could be pretty kino. Imagine giant lanternfish.
I'm not up to speed on my Fonatine lore at the moment, so I don't know if the Primordial Sea is given a lot of lore yet, but that's the sort of image that I get when I think of its name.

You can visit him every other day to feed him and complete some tasks until he's finally healthy enough to be released. They will give you a luxurious chest and an achievement after you've completed it.

Traveler and Paimon were blessed by Furina when they used the Statue of the Seven. They're functionally identical to how they act on land, they just traverse a bit differently. Normal humans need diving suits to go underwater at all. Keep in mind that there are multiple points where you are underwater and Traveler or Paimon talk about "smelling" something in the water and they do mean literally smelling it with their noses.

Waters of Fontaine are special. Vision Holders receive a blessing while they're there that allows them to breathe and speak underwater. Melusine are fundamentally aquatic creatures.

I thought about quitting the game by the end of Sumeru. Haven't finished all the quests released during its patches because every dialogue is word diarrhea, extremely watery at that. And I also don't give a frick about some farmer who vanishes from the game once the quest is over.
Meanwhile, I managed to finish all the main and a few side quests in Fontaine while being at work, plus the story revolves around the characters, who will be or are playable. Not around literal whos they need to help.
Same boat but I can't even start the Fontaine questline because I have to complete other "story" quests before that.
I tried several times but it's just too boring.
They keep talking in circles and repeating everything 2 or 3 times, it's just not a good experience or a good read.

I've seen arguments against the translators elsewhere too. I'd like to think they are a problem, or rather are exacerbating one. Since translators aren't the ones deciding to make repeatable daily commissions with unskippable cutscenes. Like the Sumeru one involving some scholars getting their crates attacked by slimes. And the dialogue can be so excessive at times that I don't think mere incompetence makes sense. It is wordy by design. I hear the Chinks love this shit, but I could also see it as a way of bloating player retention time. I think it's plausible that's a metric MHY cares about.
We're about to venture into head-canon territory, but I can see how this metric would be used. Since they must have different teams working on different projects constantly they must also have a way of measuring success between teams. A team that can retain players for longer could get more praise, bonuses, etc. As we know the Chinks are shameless about abusing any system they can, regardless of the consequences (of which there aren't enough). So any team could just look at the current metrics and see that the average player spends X amount of time on lines of dialogue then add Y dialogue lines to their event. Y being more than they think they can get away with.
New project comes out, player retention is through the roof as people put the text on auto and check every once in a while. Dawei smiles at all the Eva merch he'll be able to buy, and the team gets kudos for clearly being good at their jobs. Devs go out to a nice restaurant to celebrate and eat food fried in gutter oil. Such is the beauty of the Chinese eco-system.
Nah, majority time players spent in game was doing exploration. E.g. I've spent like 4 hours the other day just exploring underwater region. Quests are wordy, but they ain't that time consuming. You feel that way because you want to skip it as fast as possible, so that one second feels like an hour. That wordy daily quest from sumeru doesn't even take more than a minute to go through, but it feels like an hour. They should add skip button for daily quest.
You do not understand. I didn't claim it took up the 'majority' of player's time at all. I'm talking about maximizing that number despite the detriment to the experience. If one version of quest dialogue takes 3 minutes to mash through and another takes 4 that might not seem like much, but that minor difference gets multiplied across the entire playerbase. This is also assuming mashing instead of reading or letting auto-play take the wheel. It's one simple trick that can make your project seem that much more impactful.
Take events like the one that just dropped. There is no new exploration tied to it so your response holds no bearing here. Each minigame takes a minute or two at the most. Once all three event quest chapters are out the sum of the time they take up will be greater than the time spent on minigames.
I know you are accusing them of bloating the game time with unskippable dialogue to meet some internal criteria. Taking the new event quest as an example, if they care about maximizing time, they can add scoreboard and achievement. It's the easiest way to extend the game time as players will spend needless amount of time replaying it for a higher score. Heck, they can even make you running around the map grinding stuff for event tokens. It's what mmo and other gacha games do with their events. It will add more time than few lines of dialogue will. If they want to count playing time, they will count the dialogue time you skip anyway. Skip button also doesn't stop other chinese gacha games from being wordy either. It's too soon to call that obviously since we still have like 2 more regions to go. Some people didn't like sumeru because it's too big. Fontaine felt more compact. I thought they did well balancing the underwater area with dryland area. It made exploring less monotonous. I also liked how they told the archon story in the style that fits the Fontaine theme. This made the archon quest more memorable and fresh to me. I had to give credit to them for trying to do things differently with each new region.

Fontaine's main story does name drop Jakob and slightly explain what he was doing, but all the deep juicy lore stuff and explanations about the work of turning people into Oceanids to survive Teyvat becoming drenched in the Abyss is left to the sidequests to explain.
