It added the best song in the game, Snowflakes, and gave Adachi a social link I guess.
They improved the boss design and some of the normal enemies. And Shuffle Time is better. Otherwise vanilla is better.

I guess. Going for the sweep bonus was a bit fun. But Golden's like the one fricking game in the series that did not need this version of Shuffle Time. You make the easiest game in the series next to 2IS and then you just give out tons of free level ups and nearly always beneficial skill mutations. Shit, you don't even need Golden Hands.

I've played P3 original and P3 remake, P4 Golden, P5 original and P5 Royal.
And P4 Golden is still my favourite. It's just so comfy.

Sure, its less concise than vanilla but the core appeal of Persona 4 was the slice of life stuff and I can't imagine wanting less of that from such a comfy game. If want a more straightforward and focused game, play P3FES.
People are forgetting Golden was the first Persona to have Demon Fusion with deterministic skill inheritance, that alone more than justifies its existence. Whenever I have to play an old SMT and spend hours opening and closing menus until I get the skills on the demon I want to rip my hair out.

What a shit game this is. Got meme’d into buying it and I played all the way to the point Rise joins your party. It’s a fricking visual novel AND a slice of life at that, for people who don’t have social lives irl I guess? The rpg parts were sparse as frick and when you’re finally there it’s extremely tedious, fight the same monsters 1838262 times in a randomly generated fricking dungeon like it’s the 1980s.

There's a bit too much overlap with Apathy Syndrome but I think Persona Odyssey would be cool main theme. They've wanted to do an adventure thing since 5.
Worse, the new additions actively ruin the mystery of the game. Adachi now gets literally an evil version of the Fool social link where he rants about how bonds are for the weak. Marie literally reveals the existence of Izanami. Even if you don't do Marie, the game no longer ends when you defeat Ameno Sagiri so the fake out doesn't even work anymore.
Also not quite related but I can't stand the 3rd tier Persona they tacked on to this and Royal. Like there's this sense of progression where your persona all become legendary Gods to take on the big bad but now they just turn into cheap reskins of their original persona after the fact, ruining the sense of progression. The crazy thing is, they already figured this shit out in 2 where you go base persona, powered base persona, God persona.
Persona fusion is insanely better with the QOL update
The tone of the game is slightly different. It's a trivial thing, but that thicker fog on og PS2 is just something else. But I wouldn't lie that I would love for someone to backport the winter ski trip. Rest is eh whatever, it's a minute thing to me.
The music from Marie's dungeon alone was worth the rerelease.
