you didnt even try to pick a crt filter that matches the one you're comparing it to, you're either incompetent or doing it on purpose, either way you're not qualified to make any more statements on graphics.
>The right is not even a crt though, it's a filter.
At least its emulating the filter as intended you fricking nerd. The only thing they won't get back is the vacuum tv vibes.
If you ever played this on a CRT you'd know this is not accurate. It's impossible to get 100% smooth dithering blending. Even the shittiest blurry composite signal will still show some dithering.
this is no better than sprite-filter homosexualry
in an ideal world, sharp, clean square pixels with integer scaling would be the only option available
I'd get a crt TV if there were easier and more varied ways to emulate on it from a PC. And they're expensive on ebay and risky to ship, and I'm too introverted and lazy to go look for one around town. And most of them aren't going to last a whole lot longer.
Good shaders are sufficient and look very close to what I remember as a kid playing on a crt. I've flirted more with the idea of getting a crt monitor to play old PC games on but I just can't bring myself to do it. Would rather wait on OLED to get cheaper and better.
I do, I literally just picked up a big year 2000 Sony Meme-itron from some guy's front yard earlier this week. Dude who owned the property must have been doing a bunch of cleanup because it was in junk pile with a couple other CRT televisions and tires and shit next to the road for days. Still works too. Heavy as frick, though.
What shader can I use in RetroArch to replicate that effect without all the extra scanline stuff? I have a 1080p laptop screen and shaders that replicate crts often just end up being eyesores
>What shader can I use in RetroArch to replicate that effect without all the extra scanline stuff?
You can't replicate it without blurring the shit out of the image which is honestly even worse.
Try tvout-tweaks or ntsc-adaptive set to 3-phase S-video to make it slightly less noticeable, it's what I do.
>You can't replicate it without blurring the shit out of the image
homie it's the same with CRTs. If you use RGB on a real CRT the Genesis transparency and dithering blending doesn't work either
Yeah older games look better on them but literally who plays older games. They play like ass and there is no reason to ever play the classics more than once
I was gonna say the motion clarity is what should make it look better but obviously anon is probably watching it on a piece of shit and a compacted window
Makes you think that if display technology hadn't progressed, no one would have cared about improving graphics further. 7th gen games already look really nice on CRT TV.
.......you think people wanted to blur games until pixels couldn't be made out? in low res content like that?
when i played games throughout this era i had my consoles modified for SCART RGB...enthusiasts were getting as far away from the blurry, "crunchy" look as possible
I guess you wouldn't know a thing about that, though.
Hipster homosexualry for zoomers with a faux sense of nostalgia. Literally worse than vinyl enthusiasts. I wouldn't pick up an old boob tube television set off the street outside myself if it was abandoned and left in pristine condition (except now I would cause I know moronS will pay absurd amounts of money for them). I was so happy to make the switch to an HD flat screen. Just emulate with a fricking scanline filter.
>you do you >opt for visual clarity with the option to emulate the shit anyway, without the need for a bloated clunky piece of ancient technology
Okay. I will. Enjoy paying excessively for the junk some old lady was about to push out on the street.

We're going to reach a point in society where people are just making fun of others for completely superfluous nonsense that has no relevance on or bearing on anything.
Oh you fricking eat corn in a can instead of on the cob? You fricking dirty wretch get HIV.
Who cares if people want to play on a tube or with a filter? It's all for personal entertainment.
Are you going to start criticizing people on their technique when jerking off?
Welcome to the fox and grapes
Most angry anons probably did try to find one but couldn’t because the only available ones were expensive so they went into the mindset you see here
They don't make CRTs, and I believe they get more dangerous and radiate more as they age. It's not worth it just to make 30 year old games look better.
The sets are so heavy because the screens are basically a giant piece of leaded glass.
Nothing is getting past that shit, and even if it could, the particles would collide with the atmosphere. The radiation emitted by the electron guns aren't high energy enough to do anything substantial or go anywhere, that's why they need to be fired inside of a vacuum tube.
I used this. idk if there is a better way to do it. Then just set deck output resolution when docked to 1280x720, then the scaler to 480i.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B083ZF5BBP
I want a PVM just for SCART and they look crisp but I'm not willing to pay that kind of money or hit up my local PBS station for any they might still have.
All the popular filters by default have the fake scanlines way way way way way way way too strong. You need to turn that shit way down. You're not supposed to see actual lines across your screen.

From Zelda 2 romhacks on famicom all the way up to Klonoa 2 on PS2 and a shitload of stuff in between
I also watch old standard def DVDs and anime on the 360 to my CRT
Makes it look great
Na, I've already got a filter for my PC
>already got a filter for my PC
Not good enough
So just apply a filter that looks like the right.
Show me one
That's actually a great question. If a modern screen can show how a CRT looks, why is there no filter that does it well?
ntsc shader
Not spoonfeeding you. Keep using that massive CRT screen 😉
okay, so you don't have one
or he doesn't like you
It is at 4k
Was apparently good enough for you to make this fricking thread.
you didnt even try to pick a crt filter that matches the one you're comparing it to, you're either incompetent or doing it on purpose, either way you're not qualified to make any more statements on graphics.
>Doesnt say which is which
Goodie
I’m going to say left is LCD, middle is the filter and right is a PC CRT monitor
Bilinear filter
wouldn't cubic work better so you get the diagonal bleed rather than just an average of the neighbors?
I don't want to study Critical Race Theory
The right is not even a crt though, it's a filter.
>The right is not even a crt though, it's a filter.

False. You were born after 1998.
does streets of rage 2 have a level select code I want to see how the bar looks on my machine
If you still don't know it's very early in on the first stage.
They look the same to me
They look like female ass in panties to me(in low res)
ok I can see it.
That looks like a butt to me.
Based
megabezel death to pixels
4k screen
Get a new computer.
shit looks fricking HD on CRT
I would if homosexuals wouldn't try to sell shitty composite only filthy ass crts for $300 as a heckin retro gaming tv!!!
Just go to yard sales or garbage cans, I found a CRT last week next to a trashcan
Did you clean it out first. You can never be too careful if there's shit like spiders or roaches in there.
I've been trying. They're becoming more rare these days. I should've just got one 10 years ago like everyone else.
>I go dumpster diving for video games
Nice work Pablo!
great way to get bedbugs and roaches.
>I
I got a nice trinitron for free on facebook marketplace
Luck you.
They're all $200+ near me, or some no name piece of shit that looks like it was thrown down a mountain
This was free and even came with fresh vegetables from the old man's garden. To think he was going to haul it to the dump!
SOVL VS souless
threads like these are so moronic, the fact that you can see the image comparison proves you can just use a filter
this is no better than sprite-filter homosexualry
in an ideal world, sharp, clean square pixels with integer scaling would be the only option available
try playing a ps1 game with native settings
nobody likes ugly ass dithering covering the whole screen
i did, several times even
never understood why people feel the compulsive need to pump postprocessing filters onto every game they come across
No way, it's way better, no one saw square pixels when playing other than on pc.
I have a lot to say about this game, and it's not all good...
is there a list of best CRT models or are tier lists for zoomers
>nobody has posted CRTjak yet
But I do
>Get a CRT.
>False Narrative Astroturfing
Sent 10 of those frickers to the landfill today.
a real CRT, not a CRT monitor
that matters very little.
Your cred is very little
Says the guy who refuses to be seen with me in an Open Queue or Fightcade.
wow you're totally right
Get an Nvidia card.
I'd get a crt TV if there were easier and more varied ways to emulate on it from a PC. And they're expensive on ebay and risky to ship, and I'm too introverted and lazy to go look for one around town. And most of them aren't going to last a whole lot longer.

as much as I love CRTs, they aren't worth the insane migraines they give you if you stare at it for more than 30 minutes.
Black person wtf are you on about, people (myself included) used to sit for hours in front of their televisons without issues.
zoomer problems
you pathetic effete little girl homosexual
Crtchuds deserve to be genocided for their impact on the climate
What impact?
It's objectively superior display technology.
Imagine not not being able to play games at 480p and have it look good.
>his monitor upscales everything
works on my machine
I get another one every time I see this thread and now I can't walk in my house help me
>crtards will see this and exclaim "SOVL vs soulless!!!" when both can be achieved with shaders on an LCD
It just ain't the same, man. Genesis games in particular really just look better on a CRT to me because of the weird resolution and overscan.
LCDs cannot do dithering properly
Soul vs soulless
Not sure.
>curtains
Mr. Hollywood over here.
what char is that?
looks comfy
and it has a headrest which is important to me
Looks like one of those several thousand dollar Herman Miller chairs
none of them have headrests
which is why I refuse to get one, even second hand from an office
What shader can I use in RetroArch to replicate that effect without all the extra scanline stuff? I have a 1080p laptop screen and shaders that replicate crts often just end up being eyesores

homie it's the same with CRTs. If you use RGB on a real CRT the Genesis transparency and dithering blending doesn't work either
It’s less about being blurry and more how composite creates sawtooth like edges
Death to Pixels CRT shaders
tried this a while back and my gpu couldn't handle it lol
Which shader?
>yoU cAN Do ThIS wiTh fILTers
Good for you. Go do that then.
>yoU cAN Do ThIS wiTh fILTers
They can't tho
No, I need to tell you about how my filters are just as good as your CRT. Because of reasons.
Yeah older games look better on them but literally who plays older games. They play like ass and there is no reason to ever play the classics more than once
I also play modern games on my CRT.
I dunno if this is just sunk costs talking, but my Genesis through an upscaler on my TV looks way better to me than an emulator with filters.
is there a modern monitor with a hardware shader transformaiton matrix built in?
id prefer that over a crt.
What?
a screen that has hardware specifically for applying shaders to any signal that is input in it.
What you're asking for is a TV with a RetroTink built in, so just tape it to the back of your monitor
I thought light as female ass.
What?
Because this light on OP looks like female butt in panties.
No it fricking doesn't. You stupid horny bastard.
NO.
I LOVE CRTs
Damn son
How do you display 240p from RA?
What do modern games look like on CRTs?
holy SOUL
360 on CRT is great, though a VGA or multi format one might look better
360 was the console that made me finally upgrade. I couldn't read the text on Dead Rising, so I went out and bought a cheap HD
Meh
I have a big 27” CRT, no issue with text here, though I play it in RGB
>it even makes modern games look good and cozy
Perhaps flatscreen was a mistake after all.
This looks fricking awful are you all blind?
Not sure what you think is bad about it but ok
The color depth and black levels make it better!
I was gonna say the motion clarity is what should make it look better but obviously anon is probably watching it on a piece of shit and a compacted window
Response times on LCDs make it less of an issue than the PSP days.
Motion clarity is always an issue when playing on LCDs
Yeah but the visible ghosting on those old displays was *really* egregious.
Spotted the privileged zoomer.
Maybe it's just the camera but the text looks illegible. Also leave privilege checking to twitter
Between the camera, and the fact that the webm is 540p, no shit you're not going to be able to read the text that well.
>Maybe it's just the camera but the text looks illegible.
I can tell very easily you were too young to play dead rising when it came out!
CRT looks weird when filmed but excellent in person.
because you're viewing it on your inferior lcd monitor.
Makes you think that if display technology hadn't progressed, no one would have cared about improving graphics further. 7th gen games already look really nice on CRT TV.
They look great, except for the small text and ui are pretty unreadable
gandam
battle motel
looks like shit, still pixelated
>looks like shit, still pixelated
.......you think people wanted to blur games until pixels couldn't be made out? in low res content like that?

Game? I almost thought it was a Growlanser game or something.
looks like ar tonelico
thanks
Looks like a filter on the left.
This has nothing to do with CRT, it's genesis composite. If you use the shitty composite cable on a 4k tv it'll do the same.
Lol no
OK mate, you do you
>you do you
>opt for visual clarity with the option to emulate the shit anyway, without the need for a bloated clunky piece of ancient technology
Okay. I will. Enjoy paying excessively for the junk some old lady was about to push out on the street.
I paid nothing
I have a 27” RGB set that makes standard definition content look amazing
You have no reason to be mad yet you are
A ctr will never make dithering look like a transparency.
Um you made a typo in HRT sweetie.
Troony
>tfw zoomers think they are getting the real experience by emulating instead of playing on an authentic trony tranitroon HRT tv
>leave the remote on top of tv
>have to get up to press buttons either way
Hipster homosexualry for zoomers with a faux sense of nostalgia. Literally worse than vinyl enthusiasts. You can still play the PC version on fan-operated servers, you know.
DC and Gamecube both have active private servers. Unsure about xbox.
Ultra soul.
truly how pixel art was meant to be.
is that randytaylor69's butt
>even blurred, the right image still shows more detail
I have a Sony Trinitron kv-24fs100 <3
32fs13 here
I always laugh when these bait threads are posted and I imagine the braindead zoomers unironically going to try and find a shitty old CRT TV to buy.
We're going to reach a point in society where people are just making fun of others for completely superfluous nonsense that has no relevance on or bearing on anything.

Are you going to start criticizing people on their technique when jerking off?
they're playing it wrong. they don't enjoy it on as deep a level as i do
Where do you think we are?
I rub my dick against the thigh until it's time to go, also I'm a dry guy :^*~~
Welcome to the fox and grapes
Most angry anons probably did try to find one but couldn’t because the only available ones were expensive so they went into the mindset you see here
>fox and grapes
>over discarded trash and outdated technology
i don't think you understand how fox grapes works. fox grapes is you not being able to have an oled because you're poor, so sucking crt dick
If you fap with pants around ankles instead of fully taking them off, you ARE a homosexual.
when someone has literally fricking nothing to be proud of they look towards petty shit like this to salvage their egos
Retro gaming community is a bunch of autistic nostalgia ridden idiots still chasing that high they got at 6 years old.
They don't make CRTs, and I believe they get more dangerous and radiate more as they age. It's not worth it just to make 30 year old games look better.

Yes they do!
Alibaba lets you order them.
this filter still looks like shit but it's a lot better
This is a disingenuous image.
That's the Sega Genesis version of Mega Man 1.
I connect my Steam Deck to my CRT <3
HOW
HOW HOW HOW
I used this. idk if there is a better way to do it. Then just set deck output resolution when docked to 1280x720, then the scaler to 480i.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B083ZF5BBP
>480i
Set to 240p bro
300+ms LMAO
???
I think he's talking about input delay.
Oh, I haven't noticed any.
you cannot change a digital signal to analog for free
he's playing with 300ms of input lag
Yeah that's a lot of delay and needs too many steps to convert. I'll just buy a ps2.
Get a power-hungry space heater from a dumpster to add a scanlines filter for your shitty old games that you refuse to let go of.
No, thanks.
>CLEAR CRISP PIXELS ARE THE WAY THE DEVELOPERS INTEN-
I have a PVM and a consumer trinitron for couch gaming.
Good fun all around.
I want a PVM just for SCART and they look crisp but I'm not willing to pay that kind of money or hit up my local PBS station for any they might still have.
will a CRT make old games not be shit?
Yes
They literally look and play better on a CRT but I can’t say about your taste in games
For me, its CRT-Royale.
All the popular filters by default have the fake scanlines way way way way way way way too strong. You need to turn that shit way down. You're not supposed to see actual lines across your screen.
when I used to emulate in 1080p yeah the scanlines were very noticeable and distracting. with a 4k monitor they're not as noticeable
At 240p?
Yes you are
The CRT literally skips a scan line to give you that look
Of course smaller sets and higher TVL changes the look
how do i make crt royale work on duckstation
No store-bought CRT will ever replicate the feeling of these games:
>Confidential Mission
>Jurassic Park
>Sengoku 3
>House of the Dead 2
>Time Crisis
>LA Machine Guns
>The Last Blade 2
>Pop n' Music
>Taiko no Tatsujin
>Street-Fighter 3: Third Strike
Not sure what you mean anon
Just get a bigger CRT with RGB and use a light gun
Why do all you homies sit so close to the screen haha just frickin play the game
If you sit a reasonable distance away from the screen it looks the same.
>implying developers made games using consumer sets with crusty ass composite cables
games were developed in high end PVMs with either S-video or RGB. the closest to the developers vision is the high quality crispy image on the left
They were also tested on composite as shown many times before
Crt KINGS,
THIS is truly the way it was meant to be played.
Ah, just like Mama used to make.
>average emulator shader
get a life
>having a TV is apparently abhorrent
OK?
I love how crts trigger the frick out of little homosexuals.
That shit was certainly not transparent on my 90's crt
lots of arcade games used dithering and they were all on rgb monitors
not all composite video implementations did the transparency thing either, in fact as far as I know it's only a thing on the genesis.
this
dithering was just not used for transparency, in a lot of ps1 games it's used to give depth to textures and graphics. try playing silent hill with dithering off and 32 bit color depth, it feels flat
You can't convince me you're meant to see this ugly shit on the walls.
this is hardware dithering specific to the PS1's output
Not really
Can you show an example of it?
How the dithering displays on a CRT is still different than an LCD
nah, I'm not autistic
> filters bleed like real CRTs!
> I'm high on shrooms and have an IQ of 30.
Looks like girl butt on OP.
Sauce?
Fuukoi. It has bikini and pantyshot which Kishida banned from anime in 2022 summer.
Use scanline shader.
Do you guys actually play these games or is this just to feed you some nostalgia dopamine?
What a moronic question.
I’ve played and beat a shit ton of games
From Zelda 2 romhacks on famicom all the way up to Klonoa 2 on PS2 and a shitload of stuff in between
I also watch old standard def DVDs and anime on the 360 to my CRT
Makes it look great
Dithering has nothing to do with CRT.
wrong
Result of a signal compression. Whether it's displayed on CRT or LCD is irrelevant.
yeeeah no
if that were the case it would still be possible on an LCD and it is not
Yeahhh that's exactly the case and it is possible.
I still have mine from when I was a kid
