Protip: Next time copy your goddamn save file to an empty slot if you hate the intro as much as you say.
is that what you do?
I don't hate the start of the game, so no. I don't do that. But I'm not the one doing a write up about this "insufferable experience" they never want to go through again.
So do you love the start of Twilight Princess too?
I think I only played TP once, ever. I think I did like the cozy farm village though.
It's way more fleshed out than OoT, and that makes it more enjoyable. in OoT you're just going through the motions; I need forty rupees to get the sheild, I need to crawl through and dodge boulders to get the sword, because only then does Mido let you pass. The dungeon is really simple too, I think I skip the map and compass in OoT dungeons more than any other game in the entire series, and I don't quite think that's a point in its favor. It's old and like this anon
I know it too well, and I just feel like I'm doing busy work when playing it now.
Bro, it's literally their first attempt at a 3D Zelda. How are you going to hold it to a standard of something 4 games worth of experience later? No shit they upped the ante.
on the flip side, why would you place it on a pedestal that can't be analysed critically?
I am willing to discuss it, but if your argument falls into "this game made much later in the same franchise did this one thing better" then I mean, OK, but is that fair?
OoT's intro succeeds at a few things. It doubles as a tutorial for these mechanics like crawling, cutting grass, lifting rocks, everything you've never experienced in this 3D world and might not assume if you don't walk around observing the context change on the A button. It also teaches you about Rupee economy, the importance of shields, etc. Is it BAD? No. Is it maybe not as mired as deeply in plot as other intros? Sure, but maybe there's a reason for that with this completely new format of game?
>then I mean, OK, but is that fair?
why wouldn't it be, the alternative is two Zelda games that are remarkably similar, cannot be compared? So does that make sense?
clearly one game is superior, for a myriad of reasons, that should be Ok.
>why wouldn't it be
Because, as I just said, you are comparing a game to a game the developers are trying to outdo with a bigger budget, with better technology. Why would that be fair to remove all that important context?
>clearly one game is superior, for a myriad of reasons
Well that game ain't Twilight Princess. That game failed utterly to capture the wonder of OoT with its drab color schemes, really cheesy characters and terrible sense of humor. Not to mention really disappointing town with only a few interactable NPC's. Everything about TP is a step down aside from some more sophisticated presentation allowed by better tech and a desire to try to outdo a game that was already made.
that important context is why it's a superior game. if you Ignore why it's a better game, then hot damn maybe the inferior game is on par!
Wrong. It's a prettier game. But clearly not a "better" game. TP is ass. Everything about the atmosphere and personality of TP onward is just really unpleasant and kooky in gross ways.
It's a shame we can't go back because now they've committed and the series DNA is much worse for it.
yeah well I'm glad the series is becoming more open ended and you homosexuals stuck in the past are being ignored rightfully.
you homosexuals can't even critically appraise the games, and want OoT to be forever enshrined in a vacuum. You are gross and kooky.
>I'm glad this series is no longer like the series
every fricking time
lol just replay the game again lil homosexual man
you already fricked up by doing exactly as laid out way up here
putting the game in a vacuum of zeroed criticism.
downplaying everything TP succeeded the game with, so you could bend over backwards to posit OoT as being better.
so I went to the next step and left you behind like you deserve. We're on BotW and TotK now, and they're are yet again an improvement in nearly every single way.
Your criticisms aren't valid, that's a completely separate matter. Not my fault.
I wasn't even criticizing the "open world" aspect or I would have started at BotW, not Twilight Princess. Way to be a spitegay though, I guess.
Don't try to rewrite history, gays. OOT's opening is infinitely more tolerable than the garbage that it TP's first few hours. All that stuff in OOT you can get through in about 30 minutes tops. The cutscenes and dialogue isn't nearly as bad as TP.
lmao, TP is more varied and enjoyable. try replaying the games before speaking on the topic.
>history
make it contemporary and see for yourself next time.
>get excited to replay game
Never felt that about OoT. The game sucked the first time through.
if you take a detour then you can play the song to make the egg hatch immediately, other than that I don't even think it's used anywhere else in the game though
Requires Zelda's Lullaby which is after all the day/night shit with waiting for the bridge and waiting for the egg. Plus even if you could get it after leaving Kokiri Forest, the detour would waste more time than just waiting for the day night cycles.
Even flunkies know how bad the game is? Then what's Ganker's excuse?
>remember when this idiot made the absolute worst take of all time because he got into a lil disagreement with jontron
He literally failed Highschool
He didn't fail, his mom pulled him.
And he's 100% richer and more successful than you so it worked out in the end =)
Go back to sleep Arin
He's right though, OoT did more damage to the industry than Halo, Gears of War and The Last of Us combined.
Delusional
Did this stem from Jontron? I don't remember Jon talking about OoT.
>Even
No, "only." He hates the game because it makes him read. Literally.
If you go back and watch the GG playthrough, Arin is just being a shithead the entire time. Hating on the games camera (valid) and b***hing and moaning about having to read text boxes that admittedly go on a bit too long. That and he plays like a fricking toddler. My own headcanon established that since Jon and Arin had fallen out around that time, Arin would just rib on anything Jon liked for the frick of it
Well, if not for Jon, Arin hates it because:
A. "Not muh childhood" but the SNES was for him.
B. He's an ADHD spazlord who can't sit still to read and that is literally his personal failing, not the game's.
>A. "Not muh childhood" but the SNES was for him.
This probably is the biggest factor, honestly. This is also why he has a distaste for the classic Sonic games - he didn't grow up with a Genesis.
Oh yeah, Arin is BIG into that Sega vs. Nintendo console war. Listening to him during the Aladdin playthrough makes his bias so evident. He wasn't even willing to admit the Shiny Aladdin's much better character animation... was a benefit? Like how do you, an animator, say "better animation isn't a GOOD thing?"
>"You're entitled to just LIKING something, ok? You don't have to justify it. There's SOME things you have to justify. Like, overall game theory shit -- but that's just something YOU like. I don't think most people will agree with what you're saying to be honest. It's a really weirdly specific thing."
- Jon in regards to Arin sperging out over specific details in AlttP (Ex.) Dungeon Item Chest)
I mean the moron made a section about tentalus in Skyward Sword in this very video but couldn't even figure out how to battle it when he finally played SS. He cannot fricking game, I have no idea why he's popular.
He was around during the early days of the internet, thats it really. The overwhelming majority of these "old guard" frickers were never funny to me, but a lot of people grew up on them so you're basically arguing with nostalgia.
He was one of the first people to do the whole 'parody video of popular thing'. They weren't good, but they were among the first so everyone watched them.
He also betrayed the planet by marrying an alien, so frick the neckless traitor.
>the moron made a section about tentalus in Skyward Sword in this very video but couldn't even figure out how to battle it when he finally played SS.
He once sucked off "games need to have a message" and lauded CoD's "No Russians" airport scene for forcing players to kill civilians to feel something, until someone pointed out you don't have to shoot the civilians.
TL;DR Arin's a poser
to be fair, that just makes you feel something MORE
I just can't stand to play this game any more. It's still one of my all time favorites but I can't even look at it without feeling instant crippling boredom. There's just nothing more to it. I've probably seen every single frame the game could possibly generate. The dullness of it actually makes my brain ache.
And now you realize, why BoTW was considered such a breath of fresh air when it came out.
Just play the randomizer
this game sucks don't let ootsnoys tell you different
Most overrated game of all time
Nah, that's Dragon Quest 3 due to the religious treatment it has in Japan.
>It's another "zoomer pretends like one of the highest rated games of all time is bad so he doesn't get teased for not liking it"
I hate reruns.
>get excited to replay game
>Mad about playing game
This was probably the 4th Zelda game I played and I thought it was utter dogshite. The Oracle games and MM were both way better for both story and gameplay, I have no idea why people even liked this game. WW and TP that came after it were way better too.
How was this game ever praised?
bruh fr fr no cap
I think it just got enshrined as a lot of people's best played console game. Majora's Mask is a pretty hard filter for some types. So they probably got enamored with OoT, and replayed it frequently. Now it doesn't make sense to Not say it's the best game ever made.
the only long cutscene is deku tree introducing the triforce and how hyrule came to me.
you can ignore navi.
you can hold A on dialogue owl
you can sun song the egg
you don't have to wait for any pats on sneaking section besides inside the castle, and even then the pats move relatively fast enough not to wait. you can clear it in under a minute.
you don't have to do glitches to beat the game
you don't have to listen to the music but ok
if you can't hit the boulder with the bomb you're shit.
there's a scene when the game starts, and one before going into the deku tree, and one after coming out of the deku tree.
you cannot 'ignore' the unprompted hints she gives in the tutorial dungeon. you cannot skip them, you cannot mash A.
you can press B on the owl, and you have to move down to the opposite option, when he returns later, the opposite option is switched just to frick with the player.
you cannot sun song the egg because you need Zelda's Lulliby.
the sneaking section sucks and insists on itself.
you have to listen to the music when it's at its most loudest to navigate the Lost Woods.
missing the boulder is entirely possible.
have you even played the game?
you can navigate lost woods without the music, the paths that reset you have light in them and the path forward is pitch black
the final path has light in it
>nuZelda kiddies when they play old Zelda games but don't just get everything they need to beat the game dumped on their laps in the first 20 minutes and can't just build a flying penis swastika copter to go to the final boss right after the tutorial section
Zoomers have a really hard time with linear plot focused games, its why everything has to be open world slop now.
oot isnt even a plot focused game its fairly linear and pretty light on story
Story and plot are different. DS1 has a plot, it doesn't really have much of a story.
if you wanna get technical with it but you know what i meant
I do, but my point is these sort of "the story tells itself but you need to do these specific canon events" type gameplay of older games really filters the youngsters for whatever reason.
They either want complete freedom to do anything at anytime at all, or be so railroaded the game becomes an animated movie.
>filters
they just don't enjoy that shit, who the frick could blame them
>nuZelda kiddies when the sequel to their beloved game that took 6 years to come out uses the same map, same collectibles, same weapons, same armor, same music and same everything
Honestly, I was twelve and super psyched for this, but I was actually disappointed at the beginning. I didn't start having fun until I was out of Kokiri Forest.
>tutorial dungeon with Navi constantly interjecting
the deku tree is a top three hardest dungeon in the the game on your first playthrough t. 10 year old me
it's no easier than any other dungeon on subsequent playthroughs
and navi constantly dings at you everywhere
you guys don't really consider inside the great deku tree a tutorial, do you?
its definitely a tutorial, she dings you much more there than anywhere else
you sound like a fukken ding you knob
Fire Temple is the best dungeon in the game, it's actually some amount of challenge, and it's a little bit non-linear I reckon. Rooms like the first on the right, it's an open area and you can explore it a bit whichever way.
This game is a complete dumpster fire, millenials have horrible taste in game
The whole Kokiri Forest was basically a large tutorial for the rest of the game. Calm down zoomer.
>tutorial doesn't end with the tutorial
I hate this trope
Except it does the rest of the game is pretty open and you really only get new items.
Checking in with the Owl here and there is just plot and it should be skippable but it was the friggin' 90s
>Your criticisms aren't valid
