I unistalled the game plus epic, but what just happened? I downloaded this from steam but why is it installing epic?
do I have to install it to play the game? will it do the same for homeworld remastered collection?

My steam copy didn't do that. Probably a skill issue on your part.
They updated the game for cross-play some time mid-last year.
If you already had epic installed you didn't have to worry, but if you didn't then it would install it for you.
Simple solution. Just play it before they did this.

The installation was so old it wasn't actualized yet, but I couldn't prevent it because it was required to play the game.
I might consider to start buying games from GoG instead.
But if you install epic isn't cross play, to be that you should have a way to play with epic user without using epic, this is just "we installed epic so now everyone is playing on epic"

Yes, there are workarounds for it, but you shouldn't need a workaround to play a game normally. By using the workaround you are tacitly implying that this shit is acceptable, which it's not. The best way to show that is by issueing a refund request and putting the launcher shit in as the reason. I've already refunded a bunch of games for this exact same reason, except it was usually the even shittier EA launcher.

Having Epic installed doesn't stop you playing the game normally.
Needing to install EGS when buying the game anywhere that isn't EGS isn't normal and I won't let npc consoomers like you normalize it.

The epic games cross-compat was added in patch 1.4 on August 24th 2023.
DoK was released in 2016 so this BS was added SEVEN YEARS after the game launched.
