The game is off visually. From cutscenes and close range moments I can tell they put effort into details and textures but you often won't see it, the FOV keeps it all far away and the TAA implementation is garbage in this game.

Is there even any game that has implemented TAA without making the game look blurry as frick?

Like this shit. Why go through all that effort to make the dude's abs and lightsaber and veins look so detailed when you're never really going to see it aside from a few moments in a cutscene, and the rest of him you'll just see from a moderate distance in duels?

Only for it to run natively at half your display's resolution at most [if you want 60+ FPS], too. For God's sake, cut down the poly and textured budget. Hi-Fi Rush, Scarlet Nexus, and Tales of Arise [for what it's worth] run natively at above 1440p while holding 60 on current-gen, and run well enough on Steam Decks, too.

Same reason Ganker and jannies think shoehoring sexual content everywhere is quality content and makes up for anything bad: Extreme moronation that damages everything worthwhile. Most people are complete morons when things they like show up, and being a homosexual, or at least a porn addict, is cool now. It impairs their judgement and they can only focus on whatever appeals to them, and sex appeals to any moron. It's literally as casual as it gets yet they pretend it's sophisticated. Many people on Ganker are the exact same as the people they claim to hate, they just have a different fetish.

Nta but I was more engaged in the individual characters and what they were going through in this game. First one felt like your typical Star Wars story but I liked how this one was about Cal and friends basically accepting that they've lost, and how to live (or fail) their lives in the wake of that.

It's a mixed bag. The first was better at landing the big moments and the main boss was better, but the moment to moment dialogue and character interactions in the second got a lot more focus. Fallen Order lacked those moments where people just sit down and talk so you can really get into their mindspace.

          Anonymous

I agree with that. There are aspects of Survivor that just feel very fanfic-y and forced to me though, even by the standards of prior Star Wars games and the EU. It's still a better story than the Jedi Knight games, but I liked Fallen Order's focus.

You need to understand that in a duel between two force users, both are partly precognitive.

Well in the game Cal's standing as a jedi is extremely dubious by the end. Taps in the dark side often and not always in control, fights more like a sith than a jedi, and he gets a girlfriend on the excuse that the order is gone and maybe they didn't get everything right. If everyone around him keeps dying like they did in Survivor he'll 100% fall to the dark side.

Clone troopers were bred to be highly obedient and loyal, they were trained since they were born to be soldiers, their entire purpose is serving as an army.
Stormtroopers are just regular people the Empire gives a couple of months of training to ship them off to a dump in some planet to patrol around. They are more like police officers that the Empire had to adopt as the larger bulk of their military for the civil war due to time and budget constraints.

Stormtroopers are the elite, the random people just end up in the Imperial Army/Navy troopers, the guys with the goofy black helmets.

In a 1978 new article it was revealed that stormtroopers were clones. George didn't retcon Stormtroopers to being regular recruits until the prequels came out. ROTJ was just a fricking garbage movie and George Lucas admitted that he threw the whole original script with Han dying and there being Wookies instead of Ewoks out because he wanted to sell more toys.

You sure about that? I distinctly remember the Clone Wars that are mentioned in the original trilogy being a very vague event in the past, because Timothy Zahn mentioned them a few times, and that was before the prequels

You will never be a real Jedi Knight. You have no saberrealisticcombat, you have no Force powers, you have no multiplayer. You are a padawan twisted by Disney and EA into a crude mockery of Raven Software's perfection.

All the “validation” you get is two-faced and half-hearted. Behind your back people mock you. Your masters are disgusted and ashamed of you, your “friends” laugh at your ghoulish mocap behind closed doors.

Merrin are utterly repulsed by you. Thousands of years of evolution have allowed Dathomiri to sniff out simps with incredible efficiency. Even padawans who “pass” their "trials" look uncanny and unnatural next to a Knight. Your RPG mechanics are a dead giveaway. And even if you manage to get her drunk on the Mantis with you, she’ll turn tail and frick a lesbo stormtrooper in your bed the moment she catches sight of your Nathan Drake shimmy and shuffle sections..

You will never be happy. You wrench out a fake smile every single morning and tell yourself it’s going to be ok, but deep inside you feel the Dark Side creeping up like a weed, ready to crush you under the unbearable weight.

Eventually it’ll be too much to bear - you’ll grab your kyber crystal, hold it in your hands, and "bleed" it red. Greez will find you, heartbroken but relieved that he no longer has to live with the unbearable shame and disappointment. They’ll bury you with a headstone marked with your padawan braid, and every passerby for the rest of eternity will know a padawan is buried there. Your body will decay and go back to the dust, and all that will remain of your legacy is a skeleton that is unmistakably not a Jedi Knight.

This is your fate. This is what you chose. There is no turning back.

I know that webm gets passed around a lot by Sony obsessed virgins, but the game runs really well. I played on performance mode, beat the entire campaign in addition to various side quests and areas, and had no noticeable drops. The game is great, but I didn't play it at launch so my opinion isn't colored by the performance issues it had.

Protagonist finally grew into a capable guy instead of a scared kid. But the PC port is godawful, runs like ass unless you've got a good PC. That alone disqualifies it from being worth full price, I'd pirate it if I were you.

It's not as good overall or as polished as the first game. It trades the metroid style levels for two open world areas, though you occasionally go to more standard zones. Personally I felt disinclined to explore anywhere since I knew I couldn't get most items until later in the game. It was still enjoyable, and the number of styles is neat, though honestly the whole game just makes me wish it had a create-a-character

He was spiraling, into the dark side. Imo it was actually one of the better portrayals of what it would do to someone. He's been growing increasingly paranoid, which is his weakness the dark side preys upon inside of him. He's so paranoid and stressed out he can't accept the idea of making the planet into a target of the Empire. So he betrays them. It contrasted well with Cal also toying with the dark side and their position as survivors on the run, it demonstrated how perilous of a position Cal is in himself. He's like 2 steps from being the same. After that fricking rad double tap at the end, he is arguably one step. Great fricking ending.

He was still mindbroken by his home being tracked down by the Inquisition and his wife getting killed. From what I gathered he thought hiding his daughter in a place that would inevitably draw the Empire's attention would just make history repeat itself.

He couldn't trust anybody. Even after Cal stuck his neck out for him Bode was used to shit going awry. If there was even a slight chance his daughter got hurt because of it, he wasn't on board. Kicking his ass felt good though.

Kinda went especially moron at the end as he also almost hurt/killed his daughter and he was pretty fricked after being given more than one opportunity to just stop being a moron

It's even more tragic because his daughter knew he was becoming a fricking moron and willingly went with Cal and goth chick. But yeah, the dark side corrupted him, even while he was trying to do what was right. He was a good character, a tragedy of death and betrayal causing him to spiral into a misguided monster. The entire jedi funeral scene at the end was worth it though. I LIKED the first game but wasn't holding my breath for a sequel. My expectations are high after this one and am genuinely excited for the third part.

It was also his insanely dangerous position under that one imperial guy. Bode is just tragic, in fact all the people who fell to the dark side here were quite tragic. Neither Bode nor Dagan were genuinely evil, they didn't fall for some stupid reason like they got too angry one time, Bode slowly devolved over time from sheer paranoia and he had no way, trapped in that downward spiral. And overly protective tough guy gruff dads are everywhere in game media, here we see what that kind of paranoia would do to such a person. Dagan was traumatized by loss of his purpose in life and his lover, his arm, even he was tragic. Then you have the two Sisters and Taron. Honestly all the dark side people in this Remedy games are good. A lot of them mirror Cal well, for example Malicos in FO gave into despair over the order falling but Cal refused, they couldve easily swapped places if a few things had happened out differently.

Lol yeah I guess it's kind of stupid but when you think about how the Droid Cal finds was sent to get him, and if he hadn't gotten stuck where he was, and his gf hadn't died of age by the time he'd gotten out, it wouldn't have went that way. It felt like circumstances turned him evil rather than him just getting really mad. He's legit shocked when Cal tells him the Republic is gone and the Order fell but that just fuels his ambition, it basically is what ruined him.

I can't consider it such a tragedy because the game goes full-in on the "Dark Side is a drug" angle. Dagan and Bode swiftly decline into complete insanity, either immediately or as the game goes on. In the end Bode betrays everyone for very spurious reasons, when he simply could have escaped with his daughter. Cal would have helped him take her, if he needed to.

This aspect of the story makes the galaxy feel much too small, like Cal and Dagan and Bode really NEED this one planet to hide from the Empire, when really any of them could have just gone to any of the millions of undeveloped or forgotten worlds out there. But everyone spergs out about Tanalor because there's only one copy of it's hyperspace coordinate data.

That planet was a bit unique as it was in the middle of a spooky ass nebula that the Empire would have a hard time getting through without figuring out that New Republic shit which I think needed a key and stuff. Even then it seemed to close quick

                Anonymous

Imo Bode is characterized enough that it seemed like he was struggling for a long time before he snapped. I think the dark side for him can easily be seen as a drug but to each their own.

Bode did run, multiple times. The Empire found him anyway. Then he got strong armed into working for them and he could've been sold out at any moment. All that explains his decision when he learns about how isolated and uniquely position Tannalor was. By that point he was sufficiently paranoid that I had no issues personally understanding why he did what he did. If he could infiltrate their group, anyone Cal brought along could have too. He even weighs letting Cal in on it but decides Cal won't go with it, showing he did grow to almost trust Cal enough to overcome his paranoia. I think it was pretty well done.

personally, every "jedi needs to hide from the empire" story falls apart because of how pathetic the Inquisitors are in everything. The only time they're remotely threatening is against total novices like Ezra and Cal. To ANY jedi with the slightest skill, they fold in an instant. It was more believable when it was just Vader on his crusade that jedi would cower and hide from some unknown sith lord

Star wars is held together by spit at this point so I get what you're saying but it's also pretty basic hero shit, they survive because they're the heroes. Also Cal and Ezra are both very capable Knights by like halfway through their respective stories. As shitty as the Obi-Wan show was it did show the Inquisition racking up kills.

That's where the "with the slightest skill" comes in. The moment a padawan who learned about the force a month ago and a padawan who had been hiding for so long he lost most of his powers trained for just a short while, they dumpstered Inquisitors.
And the Inqs in Obi-Wan are "effective" because they're dealing with just regular people and EVEN THEN the black woman has trouble dealing with an overweight farmer

Thoughts on Dagan as a Vergil/Doku-style rival?

too blatant. It just makes him feel like a shitty offbrand vergil rather than an earned rival. The only time you ever see him are during the fights and that one conversation he has with the big guy. He needed more actual characterization other than "MUH TANALORE"

Then again one could argue she should've died. This is what, the third time now in nu-Star Wars where someone gets impaled yet just walks it off?

There might a bit there about Dagan mentioning doing the same thing, since his goal became making his own temple there to strike at the Empire.

i liked how some of the animations changed depending on how the story went on
single stance you start with is really standard honorable duel stuff but blaster stance is just fighting dirty 100% with no regard for muh jedi code
the sheathing animations too, fairly normal at the start but once everything goes to shit cal gets pissed and you can tell in the way he puts down the saber
i can't record webms but it's this animation that i first saw when you start killing everyone in the imperial base

Really is. This game really doesn't belong in the same conversation as Forspoken, Redfall or Starfield, since their problems exist beyond the technical side, though this game suffered them the worse.

Depends what your definition of strong is relative to how powerful Jedi tend to be. Though he does go RIP AND TEAR on a massive group of empire enemies in their own base after embracing the darkness for once and accepting that pure old jedi order stuff is shit, gone, and not going to help him with how things are

        Anonymous

Hard to say. He lacks the advanced force training of a well rounded force user but balances it out with more lightsaber combat experience than most jedi had even seen in the clone wars. Considerably stronger than in Fallen Order at any rate.
He'd be much stronger as a sith.

He was knighted in FO, this is years later. He's skilled in all aspects of being a Jedi and is definitely a more than proficient duelist considering how many distinct fighting styles he knows.

Is he "I could put up a bit of a fight against vader before getting stomped" strong or is he fodderized by him

          Anonymous

He could not put up a meaningful fight against Disney Vader because Disney Vader is ridiculously strong when your name isn't Luke or Obi-Wan. Vader killed his master in this game and she is playable for a little bit and makes Cal look weak. But in terms of combat he's still an absolute monster.

          Anonymous

Fallen Order Cal couldn't last 3 seconds vs Vader.
Survivor Cal could definitely put up a fight but like I said, he's not well rounded. Lightsaber to lightsaber he'd even have a chance of winning but in terms of force use during duels Vader would quickly find a way to put him down.

He's racked up a downright monstrous kill count. He's killed or defeafed, just from what I remember:

An 8 foot tall Inquisitor that was a Knighted Jedi before she fell
Cere's apprentice, the third strongest Inquistor
Taron Malicos, a Jedi Master albeit with help from one young night sister
Multiple Magnaguards including a custom model (these things killed other Jedi Knights in the war)
At least 1 AT-ST by himself, on foot
Dagan 3 times, a Jedi Knight
A several hundred years old Genn'dai
Bode, another Jedi Knight and Clone War Vet that was basically the Jedi version of a glowBlack person

In combat Cal is a fricking beast, absolute monster even if you consider all optional fights noncanon but if you include those he's also fought Oggdos and Rancors on top of all that.

        Anonymous

Yep, pretty sure that's two tone brass but the darker color is Matte Dark Iron from the coated metal set, I liked the sintered look because I thought it would be something a jedi on the run could actually make.
I tried to make something that looks like a matchlock for the pistol style in the vein of a musketeer. That's the closest you can get with the ingame parts but I like the end result for what it is, swoop in general is awful though

          Anonymous

The Empire having worse units in most areas on is an issue in pretty much every mod I've played. Politics interfering with game mods is a different discussion. I just play on easy because screw bad balance. Most mods don't get it right and even end up making the AI spam dozens of fighter/bomber squadrons in the first 10 minutes of galactic conquest. A really old mod called "Absolute Corruption Mod" did balance pretty well. Been years since I played it, so I may be wrong. Rise of the Mandalorians was tolerable as well if my memory serves me correctly. Thrawn's Revenge tries to shove way too many things into a single game at once, so balance becomes really difficult whether there's intentional bias there or not. I really wish Empire at War Remake had better balance because it looks and sounds good, but fighter/bomber spam is absolutely ridiculous, and it becomes a glaring issue in skirmish with how quickly the AI will start spamming them. Really kills the framerate as well.

TR is pretty balanced, aside from how the New Republic has the best units for every single unit category in the game and the most powerful heroes by far.

Awakening of the Rebellion is also pretty balanced, I think atm the Empire has the best units.

I get the feeling Thrawn's revenge only feels balanced because shield penetration doesn't exist in it.
To be fair, I do think shields should be more of an obstacle because proton torpedos are way too ubiquitous of a weapon and Star Destroyer armor is weaker anyway. But simply making them impenetrable takes away the tactic of taking out shield generators. A special shield-penetrating proton torpedo that does less damage would be a cool addition without making regular proton torpedos useless. Once the shields are down a swam of regular bombers would still do a ton of damage. These new torpedoes would have to be on only a few units, cost a lot more, take longer to build, and not be available on most planets so you can curb the spam a bit and make them easier to track on a galactic and tactical scale. Base EAW is bad enough with the bombers crippling much larger and expensive ships with little risk and effort, and FoC base game totally destroys balance with the B-Wing and TIE Defender. A lot of mods don't do much to change this and I commend TR for doing something different.

So is Survivor fixed on PC yet? I have a 3080 and it was still running like absolute ass when i first tried it

It's a very CPU heavy game, if you have something like a Ryzen 3600 then it'll be a stutterfest even with a 3090ti.

well i guess i'll wait another half a year and another sale before bothering. this was only 11 days ago...

I'm not gonna pretend the game is well optimized, it's a piece of shit in that regard. But DF have a weird hateboner for it. There's lots of problems with the stutering but they hyperfixate on shit like a single frame of the sprint animation having a repeating frame if you turn the game down to 20% speed, literally nobody even noticed that before they talked about it and it's nothing compared to the real issues. There's also no video evidence they played more like an hour of it considering the areas they display in their videos, they just constantly sprint through the most stuttery area as if that's the whole game.
          >well i guess i'll wait another half a year and another sale before bothering.
If you're expecting this game to run much better in a year and a half, don't. It won't. The first game also got like 12 patches and then they ended, this game will be the same and likely won't run much better than it does now.

hmm well I guess I'll just wait for a sale or gamepass then, whichever comes first. i played fallen order a few months ago and had none of the issues on PC that people are saying are still there. granted, it did crash at least 3 times over my playthrough but it wasn't a dealbreaker for me.

i just wanna play the game. its like the only enjoyable star wars media left after disney came, alongside mando s1/s2

I think it's well-deserved, even though they'll meatride Alan Asleep 2 for being nearly as anti-low-spec

They're just sick of bad PC ports and the fact is that Survivor is still a really bad port, and was even more so at launch. The state that the game launched in was completely unacceptable.

                >They're just sick of bad PC ports
So am I. For some reason, they'll die defending TAA and upscaling over just reigning in poly counts/texture quality and only using RT for stuff that HAS to be real-time.

              >well-deserved
It is. But they completely miss the issues.
The game's main technical frickups are
              >being built on an iteration of UE4 that struggles with traversal stutter and developers lacking the knowhow to mitigate it
              >absurd CPU load, recommended specs say 5600x but that should honestly be minimum specs
              >raytracing not only barely being an upgrade for a substantial FPS cost but also crashing half the time during cutscenes
              >overaggressive occlusion culling (the white flashes you can spot in the edges of the screen when rapidly turning in some areas)
              >VRAM leaking on some AMD cards (even though it's an AMD sponsored title)
But they focus on stuff like a single frame of the sprinting animation repeating itself in the village area, or constantly sprint around that area as if that's the whole game.

What separates "unplayable mess" from "modern rendering showcase, just upgrade your PC bro", to them? Whoever's paying them?

                >What separates "unplayable mess" from "modern rendering showcase, just upgrade your PC bro", to them?
I don't know. But even though I like JS it's definitely closer to the former even if it tries to be the latter. The developers' technical department are lazy fricktards who apparently never fully read the Unreal documentation. Hope they get replaced for game 3.

Fair warning: SSDs are basically required for this game. Hard drives make combat turn-based.

Not him, but my dad bought us both a copy since he loves Star Wars. I would've refunded this game ASAP on day one if it was my money.

Yeah, all of the action parts is just Cal and friends effortlessly butchering literally thousands of people and she tried to give Merrin a lesbian love interest that she gushes and squees about all book non-stop. I guess she thought she could control the creation process of Jedi Survivor with her bull shit.
I don't even understand how she keeps getting work, she must suck a mean wiener, all things considered. Everything I hear about her is that she's an absolutely unpleasant person and terrorizes whatever team she works with.
I don't even need to say I "hear" She's talentless either, I can see that she's objectively worthless in any field.
