Holy shit, it's honestly embarrassing for the Xbox brand that Gears of War was ever as big as it was.

Don't play on insane and you can be more aggressive and use other weapons more. The games thrive in co-op so if you aren't playing it on the couch with your bros you'll never get the full experience anyways, it's over.

Yeah honestly I went for whatever difficulty was below Insane and I still wasn't having fun.

Wait till you try out the Halo series.

The trailers and fans make it out to be some epic adult war story. But in reality the game is about these silly little monkey midgets coming out of spaceships from the sky and you shoot them with colorful plastic toy guns.

I'm used to Halo because I actually did get to play that with my bros. I don't think it was particularly great but at least I saw some of the normie appeal

Nah. You most likely dislike Gears of War due to the steep learning curve of the cover based shooter genre. You're going to be horrible at gears for a few months but will SLOWLY improve. Keep at it kiddo.

Gears Of War (although using a lot of cover) took things back to the roots of 1990s FPS design and that is movement trumps cover and damage sponging. Oddly enough the outcome of the cover mechanic and main weapon gnasher shotty (rather than the standard rifle in every single other FPS' out there) is a combat style which revolves a lot around maneuverability and movement like the older FPS' rather than the usual "I see you first so you're dead" combat style. This is why the skill curve is so much steeper than the other FPS'. This is why the game requires more time and tactics compared to the other modern FPS'. This is why Gears segregates itself further from the FPS herd compared to "mundanely similar to CoD" FPS' of today which quite frankly is every single one. Destiny, Borderlands, Halo, Battlefield it goes on and on.

That looks fricking awful, the fact that wallbouncing became Gears' signature move is testament enough to how shitty the game was to begin with.

this sperg's mediocre analysis is partially correct. But he'll purposely omit that most Gears players exploit autoaim on the Gnasher to score easy kills.

Gear's controls and movement allow for a faster style of play at least in the MP aspect (if you ignore the moronified level design in that aspect, chest high walls, and basically no verticality). In the SP aspect, the level design is far too narrow at times, and the enemies distinctly have too high damage and are too spongy to allow this playstyle. In addition to this, Gears harkens from the mid 00s era of shooters where the shooting felt absolute dog shit. Where you dump mags into an opponent and they barely flinch. There's a distinct lack of feedback from weapons when you attack opponents in this game at certain times. Not a damn blood splatter or anything really. So you get a game with a good control scheme but fall distinctly short in other aspects.
Hence why Gaylo and gays of War all disappeared from the public eye as COD took reign. Even the recently released Gears 5 barely musters a low triple digit player count lol.

        >chest high walls, and basically no verticality
there is no jump fricking moron, chest high walls are there to allow you to see and shoot what is on the other side, otherwise you would have plain high walls. Verticality is present and important for the insane advantage it gives to players having the high ground. You would know if you actually really played the games.
        >shooting felt absolute dog shit.
Only pistol and chaomax feel bad because they are bad. Sniper, gnasher, bow, boltok, grenades, chainsaw and boomer feel amazing.
        >Where you dump mags into an opponent and they barely flinch.
        >Not a damn blood splatter
you literally never played Gears, there is always blood everywhere and all enemies have stun animations.
        >Hence why Gaylo and gays of War all disappeared from the public eye as COD took reign.
        >Even the recently released Gears 5 barely musters a low triple digit player count lol.
Halo and Gears stopped being played because both turned to shit when the original dev teams left.
The Coalition changed stuff that didn't need to change, their new characters/weapons/enemies/stories are completely inferior. Gears 5 is full of FOMO shit and zoomer skins, Horde has been ruined by perks making players play solo, classes were previously locked to characters, it's super grindy to level up one class, the escape editor has been removed.
Robots are shit enemies, open world shit was boring, story is bad and no one is interested in new characters that are all family members of the old crew but uninteresting.
If you can't see the difference between new games and original trilogies (and why they aren't as successful) you're probably legitimately moronic.

It's a kino series with very distinguishable aspects. And it's a mix of 80's war movies, action movies, and horror/post-apo.
homosexuals, women and trannies will never understand the appeal of Gears.

Found someone who started playing last gen.
Gears of War literally set the standards for controls in third person shooters.

Even Uncharted copied GOW, you can even feel how over the shoulder aiming in Uncharted 1 was more of an afterthought, considering how generous the auto aim was when hip firing.
There's a reason Hitman 2-BM had first person mode. Before OTS aiming, third person aiming sucked dick and there was no universal standard.

Why is it so much to ask for to properly get to play 2 and 3 on PC? Microsoft already put 5 on steam why not the rest? Just put the series enhanced verions on pc.

The first games of the Gears of War series have too much testosterone for the average soi gaymer
I suggest you play another 3rd person shooter with more estrogen like tomb raider, the last of us, or Control

      Anonymous

Tomb Raider 2013 was boring, I only played like 2 hours of Control because it sucked, and calling TLOU a third person shooter is disingenuous. I've honestly played a lot of third person shooters over the years, Vanquish, Binary Domain, Earth Defense Force, Dead Space, Shadows of the Damned, even Resident Evil 6 are all more fun and less janky than Queers of War was. Hell I even had a better time with Uncharted. Gears remaining a janky unevolving franchise and an ugly-looking exploit that artificially raised the skill ceiling doesn't do any favors for its apologists

But it was a sketchy ass time for performance. I tried OG Gears on a 360 Elite like 5 years ago and it was eye-rapingly bad.

        Anonymous

That is fine I am not denying that but that doesn't mean UE should have went and ruined cutscenes. It also ruins the color and even the atmosphere of that raining level where you fight the wretches. I just hate that these remasters always ruin shit. Imagine if it was an objective upgrade across the board instead.

Pretty much every game in that generation had awful performance. Good thing Xbox back compat fixes framerate issues.

Also, a reminder for the zoomers in this thread that when blu ray announced it needed HDMI to display HD content the vast majority of HD TVs did not have HDMI. Component was the king of TV inputs.
