Skyrim might be more polished but Oblivion has more soul.

      Do it, it's fun.

Oblivion is an extremely corporate product. The only soul is the Soule's music and radiant AI, since that genuinely was a passionate project of Todd's. The rest is just derivative LOTR cash in.

It's never worth it mate. I would say just play it for a little bit unmodded, then you'll realize how shit the game actually is and how much you'll have to mod it to get it into a playable state.

I always have a Skyrim character I jump on and play. Morrowind as well both with light mods, mostly fixes and meshes.

No matter how many mods you install and changes you make, it will still be Skyrim.
It will still be the same game you've played countless times before, and it will lose your interest even faster than the last time you went through this cycle.
This is not your true desire. What you long for is the comfort of the familiar mixed with the promise of new experiences. A safe, risk free adventure.
Except no such thing exists. You must take a risk in order for there to be adventure.
Try something new, with empty mind and open expectations.

the amount of effort required to make skyrim or fallout 4 decent takes 100x more effort than just installing gothic or enderal

It's always disappointing every time I do it.
It's a bad game that is partially redeemed by mods.
If you are ok with older games, play Oblivion or Morrowind instead.

Elden Ring cured me of this game. Maybe it will cure you too.

Remember the shitty janky combat. Now imagine 50 hours of trudging through Draugr ruins and bandit camps and Dwemer Ruins and Falmer Caves.
Now remember the fact that if you don't play on the hardest difficulty, the game will be braindead easy. If you do play on the hardest difficulty, every enemy takes half an hour to kill and two-shots you.
Now remember the fact that all the writing, characters and story are absolute dogshit.
If you still want to play this piece of shit after that, there's no saving you.

This is why I just keep mine archived, I haven't played it in years but it's still on my hard drive ready to go whenever the itch comes. It's only around 40GB with mods, which is fine if it stops me from having to go through modding it again.
