The default bindings for your Simon Says answers are Q and Left ALT and this is just going to get you killed. Also switching ghost tools/healing is ass since you have to let go of your defensive buttons.
It needs some rebinding and you're better off if you have side buttons on your mouse (or like 5 side buttons on your mouse like a G502) but yes it's doable and possibly better when customized and once you're acquainted.

They consciously held the combat system back for whatever reason, which resulted in a game with an uninteresting, overpowered stealth and underdeveloped combat mechanics. Tsushima feels like a much better spin on similar formula, although admittedly without Fromsoft's trademark atmosphere.

I have to disagree on that, there didn't seem to be any perceptible sliding and your attacks don't change to lunges at range like in bamham combat
I did a duel and it took a ton of tries because you need to get multiple combos off while you can only tank a stray weak slash (really only happens if you fumble a block/parry during their combo) otherwise you'd get one shotted
basic enemies take maybe 2-3 hits. armored/heavy 4-6
keep in mind if you break their guard/parry/hit while they're whiffed you can only get a couple of hits off before they regain composure

That's a boring way to play the game, but you do you. I like actually parrying and engaging in sword fights, not just IAI FLASHSTEP LE GHOST MODE. It's okay. The gameplay is really rough. As in the button combos are very monotonous. Lethal is fun and makes it realistic but coming from ROTR to this is such a downgrade in gameplay.

Yeah I haven't finished ROTR but TN is just the best at combat but their stories in game are never that good. Strangers of paradise was the best balance of gameplay and story. That quest where you have to defend musician was a pain in ass, i don't mind archers since i can just dodge and rush kill them first but in this mission if i go toward archer then melee enemies kill the musician, luckily i have arrow deflect skill but it still pain in ass because sometime those homosexual archer shoot me during kill animation and in lethal 2 arrow kill me instantly

I normally play games on hard but I like normal here because I can use my combos but the enemies aren't sponges on hard (like the the fat mace guys).
I think it's cool as frick they did Lethal mode though; things like that should be how hard modes are handles as opposed to +50% hp +50% damage dealt to player

Playing it on my PC with the Xbox controller is worse than using the PS4 controller I used a few years back, just because it's taking me a while to get used to D-pad plus stick to put away the sword. I do like the way the triggers rumble when you use the bow though.
Jin's actually a pretty great character. I loved his resolve over embracing becoming the Ghost knowing it was the only way to save his people. He doesn't complain about it or ask for forgiveness. It is what it is. He had to do it. Pretty based.

I already sunk 20 hours into the game and want more. While I can see why it gets called ubislop I dropped Valhalla as soon as we reached england out of boredom for comparison. Don't upgrade your katana beyond 2-3 lv because max upgraded katana will one shot most enemy
2nd upgrade with some damage buff charm is the most balance option
The story sucks and Jin is bland. Very few interesting side stories and most of the long ones, which should in theory have the most love and care put into them, have pretty terrible resolutions and don't feel worth their length by any fricking means.
What you're left with is a ubishart ass creed clone with pretty flowers and trees.

No foot IK while walking (the horse has it and so does the player when standing still)
Blood particles disappear too fast (the engine can definitely handle more because some locations are covered in permanent leaf particles)

for anyone curious, the archives have been decompiled and we can see textures and meshes, but there's no good way to patch individual files yet. a workaround might be recompressing an entire archive but that would make each mod huge and make mod compatibility complete dogshit

The year is 2024 and somehow I'm still getting 60 fps in every pc game I play with a 4790k. Anyway, this game looks good on ultra settings, even if some details seem oddly low quality occasionally. Played it for an hour or two and the combat is a little better than I expected - the parry system and delayed strikes seem like they'll be amusing to use in challenging situations.

RTSS caused issues with Horizon 2 and Ratchet and Clank, so maybe that's at fault given they're all Nixxes ports? Disable it and apply your framerate cap via NVCP instead and see if that helps

Has there ever been a developer as consistent as Sucker Punch over so long a timeframe? Their weakest game is Second Son and most studios would kill for their worst game to be on that level. The only issue is that their dev cycles have gotten longer and longer to the point that they're probably going to put out a single game this generation and it'll probably just be Tsushima 2.

I'm playing through it and I'm seeing the same problems that I always see with hyped up sony exclusives. Although their insistence on trying to make it into a movie (can't skip cutscenes) leads to some annoying decisions like camera angle and field of view both being awful. While you can try to correct the field of view I can't find any good number that works with the awful camera angle. I'm looking at the ground 90% of the time and miss the rest of the game. I had this same issue in Sleeping Dogs the camera angle was so low I didn't even recognize I was in a proper city
Does Honor or Playstyle matter in this game? I haven't done anything ninja related besides the force stealth kill but dialogue in one of the side quest talked like I fought like that when I've only every just attack and done the callout
Really glad they have a lot of emphasis on the music and include it within the game's OST. I've already heard a Heike segment mixed into one of the songs in the game and it was so cool to hear it. Once I sat down and did my first haiku and heard Junko Ueda's voice this became easily one of my favorite games I've played in the past few years.
Even talking about the Biwa Hoshi and how the records of the songs and performances survived after years. Presentation in both sound, context and the look of the game is outstanding. I don't even mind the gameplay.

Junko Ueda who (probably) does all the Biwa-related tracks in the OST and all the vocal performances for the haiku segments. She's probably the most successful Biwa player alive. Even gets experimental with new projects. Should've got her out on stage for a duet.

They still existed at the time. Even then, they're Samurai with focus on non-melee roles. Tomoe and Masako specifically are bow-users. Tsushima as an island and their clans can't afford not to train the women to at least be proficent.

You could at least look up some basic shit like Tomoe Gozen, other onna-bugeisha, Lady Hangaku also post-Genpei war into the Kamakura period and numerous others past the period this game takes place in.
You've got numerous famous Japanese poets and court women, writers and political whisperers.

Yea, Tomoe Gozen is in the Heike. Murasaki Shikibu wrote the Tale of Genji and it's pretty well-renown since it's a defining piece of Japanese literature giving importance insight to the politics of the Heian period courts as well as just being a crucial part of Japan's history. Sei Shonagon is another, they're like the 2 most important historical writers in Japan specifically because they kicked off accessibility to the lower classes to enjoy literature. At the time that the game would've taken place, people in the game would've known the two names.
The Heike's importance to Japan as well as it's place in Japanese history is foundational, it's the point in which Japan moves from a proto-shogunate established by a samurai clan holding more power than the emperor, a civil war and a shift in goverment to establish the shogunate. Mind you, technically the same shogunate in which Ghost of Tsushima takes place. I've not taken Japanese studies or Asian studies but you probably couldn't pass 101 without reading or at least knowing what happened in it.
Yes, they were written about in Japanese history. The fact that they were, is significant, because there's so little of them in Japanese history in general that they must've done something great.

Is there any point to upgrading stances on Lethal? I can't get off more than 2 hits after parrying before the enemy either dies or the big boys get stun immunity and attack again. Naked heavy attacks seem to be a death sentence because I get poked to death mid animation.

Do yourself a favor and play on Hard mode, the enemies are not as spongy as Lethal homosexuals try to make it seem, they take more damage, just enough that it doesn't trivialize combat entirely.
If you upgrade your katana eventually stuff starts dying barely slower than Lethal anyway, except for bosses which become legitimately harder on Hard because you can't cheese with the insane buff Jin's katana gets and cheese tech.
I don't get why every Predditor and some gays here act like "Lethal should have been the baseline difficulty" when it renders so many mechanics irrelevant and punishes experimentation by reducing you to parry/whiff punishes and abusing Ghost tools, which are already OP as shit.
I'll still probably play it on NG+ but that's what it is, an alternate game mode if you want something different, it's not the intended experience at all.
I think hard is fine. Maybe early game enemies will be a little spongy but if you upgrade your sword regularly and grab the legendary sword skills you can kill enemies pretty fast.

Yes. Bosses die way quicker.
I did a duel and it took a ton of tries because you need to get multiple combos off while you can only tank a stray weak slash (really only happens if you fumble a block/parry during their combo) otherwise you'd get one shotted
basic enemies take maybe 2-3 hits. armored/heavy 4-6
keep in mind if you break their guard/parry/hit while they're whiffed you can only get a couple of hits off before they regain composure

Playing it on my PC with the Xbox controller is worse than using the PS4 controller I used a few years back, just because it's taking me a while to get used to D-pad plus stick to put away the sword. I do like the way the triggers rumble when you use the bow though.
Jin's actually a pretty great character. I loved his resolve over embracing becoming the Ghost knowing it was the only way to save his people. He doesn't complain about it or ask for forgiveness. It is what it is. He had to do it. Pretty based.

I've used the keyboard to overcome these things so far.
I theorize this is because the internal values on the controller are lower than the PS ones so even when I go fully right the game only reads 80% right(random number).

2nd upgrade with some damage buff charm is the most balance option
The story sucks and Jin is bland. Very few interesting side stories and most of the long ones, which should in theory have the most love and care put into them, have pretty terrible resolutions and don't feel worth their length by any fricking means.

The year is 2024 and somehow I'm still getting 60 fps in every pc game I play with a 4790k. Anyway, this game looks good on ultra settings, even if some details seem oddly low quality occasionally. Played it for an hour or two and the combat is a little better than I expected - the parry system and delayed strikes seem like they'll be amusing to use in challenging situations.

RTSS caused issues with Horizon 2 and Ratchet and Clank, so maybe that's at fault given they're all Nixxes ports? Disable it and apply your framerate cap via NVCP instead and see if that helps

I'm playing through it and I'm seeing the same problems that I always see with hyped up sony exclusives. Although their insistence on trying to make it into a movie (can't skip cutscenes) leads to some annoying decisions like camera angle and field of view both being awful. While you can try to correct the field of view I can't find any good number that works with the awful camera angle. I'm looking at the ground 90% of the time and miss the rest of the game. I had this same issue in Sleeping Dogs the camera angle was so low I didn't even recognize I was in a proper city
Does Honor or Playstyle matter in this game? I haven't done anything ninja related besides the force stealth kill but dialogue in one of the side quest talked like I fought like that when I've only every just attack and done the callout

Really glad they have a lot of emphasis on the music and include it within the game's OST. I've already heard a Heike segment mixed into one of the songs in the game and it was so cool to hear it. Once I sat down and did my first haiku and heard Junko Ueda's voice this became easily one of my favorite games I've played in the past few years.
Even talking about the Biwa Hoshi and how the records of the songs and performances survived after years. Presentation in both sound, context and the look of the game is outstanding. I don't even mind the gameplay.

Yea, Tomoe Gozen is in the Heike. Murasaki Shikibu wrote the Tale of Genji and it's pretty well-renown since it's a defining piece of Japanese literature giving importance insight to the politics of the Heian period courts as well as just being a crucial part of Japan's history. Sei Shonagon is another, they're like the 2 most important historical writers in Japan specifically because they kicked off accessibility to the lower classes to enjoy literature. At the time that the game would've taken place, people in the game would've known the two names.
The Heike's importance to Japan as well as it's place in Japanese history is foundational, it's the point in which Japan moves from a proto-shogunate established by a samurai clan holding more power than the emperor, a civil war and a shift in goverment to establish the shogunate. Mind you, technically the same shogunate in which Ghost of Tsushima takes place. I've not taken Japanese studies or Asian studies but you probably couldn't pass 101 without reading or at least knowing what happened in it.

Is there any point to upgrading stances on Lethal? I can't get off more than 2 hits after parrying before the enemy either dies or the big boys get stun immunity and attack again. Naked heavy attacks seem to be a death sentence because I get poked to death mid animation.

You just convinced me to switch to hard. The gameplay has actually gotten stale for me on lethal since it’s just parry light attack spam repeat or throw kunais then one shot 3 dudes. Then sometimes I tuck up a party on a random spearman and die instantly. I want to actually use the movesets.

Like the other anon said, it completely ruins the combat and the moves you unlock, you literally cannot use your moveset to its full potential because every thing dies too fast, and the combat turns into a boring ass parry=light attack=parry=light attack shit
Do yourself a favor and play on Hard mode, the enemies are not as spongy as Lethal homosexuals try to make it seem, they take more damage, just enough that it doesn't trivialize combat entirely.
Yeah I'm playing on hard right now it's pretty good fun. Just got the cursed bow but haven't actually used it yet.
If you upgrade your katana eventually stuff starts dying barely slower than Lethal anyway, except for bosses which become legitimately harder on Hard because you can't cheese with the insane buff Jin's katana gets and cheese tech.
I don't get why every Predditor and some gays here act like "Lethal should have been the baseline difficulty" when it renders so many mechanics irrelevant and punishes experimentation by reducing you to parry/whiff punishes and abusing Ghost tools, which are already OP as shit.
I'll still probably play it on NG+ but that's what it is, an alternate game mode if you want something different, it's not the intended experience at all.

I think hard is fine. Maybe early game enemies will be a little spongy but if you upgrade your sword regularly and grab the legendary sword skills you can kill enemies pretty fast.

You kill everything and miss on the game by doing that. Play Hard difficulty which buffs enemy HP and no you don't have to worry about HP sponges. There's shitload of ways to one shot stuff if you get good at game(spamming all tools game offers you duh)
