Well, HZD was one of the most boring and generic games I have ever played, starring a very unlikable protagonist so I couldn't even be bothered to finish it. Got 20 something hours on it and quit after beating the ice DLC area. Can't imagine anyone really being a fan of that series.

No, the game has a few clothing/armor sets you just get as part of the story/side quests that are then upgraded. You have 1 katana and 1 knife. They just get upgraded by finding resources.
Aside from that the game is a middle ground between an ubisoft game and BotW/Elden Ring. Instead of climbing towers to reveal the map you follow the wind and golden birds to find various activities, enemy camps, and cosmetic items. I would say that it is pretty objectively better than Ubisoft stuff, but doesn't give the same, true feeling of exploration that other games do. The combat, on Lethal, feels different because it is so deadly and dangerous. You're incentivized to use all of your tools + stealth + git gud at parrying/dodging to kill enemies.
Overall pretty fun, nothing ground breaking, but it is very pretty and the combat feels different thanks to the Lethal difficulty mode, I feel like on normal it'd feel more like ass creed.

Yes, on Lethal difficulty you basically get 2 shot by everything, and the enemies die in 1-2 hits as well. It makes the combat feel more unique. You also are incentivized to use all your tools since it is so deadly. Like I use a lot of stealth, a lot of straight up combat, and all of my ghost tools. Feels like the intended way to play the game.

One of the prettiest games ever made. The biggest issue is that the difficulty is borked: you take too little damage on hard but enemies die WAY fast on lethal. Some will say that’s the point of lethal but homies drop so fast that stuff like stagger and the different move unlocks for stances are totally unnecessary. I won’t get a chance to experience it since I’m a console gay but I’ll be interested to see if modders can come up with damage levels that actually feel good and challenging.

I'm only 2 hours in but it's rather... average. Repetitive, shallow combat gameplay. Story is nothing to write home about. Beautiful, breathtaking art direction and environments as others have said.

The game is a very clear homage to 50's japanese samurai films, especially in the way camera angles are done for cutscenes and starting missions. Have yet to see a jap-made samurai game do something like this so its worth trying out for that alone.
As for the gameplay itself, I think it's more similar to ubisoft titles than other anons are saying. from the strongeholds you can invade to the way collectables are handled, it feels like something that'd fit into an AssCreed or far cry game. What makes GoT different through is that there's actual depth to these quests and a world that feels immersive. Would strongly recommend buying, it's up there with RDR2 as peak open world gaming.

Nah don't think so. If you look at how Sony operates they usually only release ports when the sequel is being made. They dropped Spiderman shortly before Spiderman 2, GoW shortly before GoW Ragnarok, both Horizon games shortly before the sequels were announced, TLOU shortly before TLOU2R. Ghost Of Tsushima 2 is being announced this year I guarantee it. They do this with ongoing IPs to create a name on the PC market and then they hold the sequels on PlayStation for a number of years intentionally because people with money to spend will just go oh GoW was great I'll just pick up a PS5 to play the new one on release. My cousin got a PS5 for exactly that reason. He really liked GoW and didn't want to wait 2-3 years to play Ragnarok. It works. The moment BB PC port or remake gets announced I'm celebrating btw. I am playing the game completely maxed out at 1440p on a 4070TI + 7800x3D. However, I am using frame generation + DLSS. I get a buttery smooth 140+ FPS constantly. However there is a bug with frame generation where after about 2 hours it will start messing up and you have to restart the game. Otherwise turn down the settings, but it is so pretty I wanna play it maxed out.

I liked hoarding various outfits in Way of the Samurai
You can equip different outfits, but they have different bonuses. You can change hats/headbands/masks and dye your clothes. So there is some amount of customization but you also just might use one type of armor most of the time for the stats. You also get lots of sword/dagger skins you can choose between, as well as saddles for your horse.
I enjoy the dozen or so dyes for the ronin outfit. Pleases me highly alongside the sword kit variety

if you play as a melee character (most do in fromsoft games, its what the game is usually balanced around), really the only 'variety' what weapon you use, which in practice just mean how much damage per swing and how slow you swing.
if there is an enemy in elden ring, you dodge roll, wait for it to stop attacking, then swing. repeat ad infinitum till you either get bored and stop playing or somehow make it to the end without dying of boredom.
if there is an enemy in GoT, you may need to dodge it, break his defense, parry him, duck, jump, and most require some blocking at least, there is also temperance in the mix too, attacking recklessly will lead to certain death.

It has a real 'flow' to it, block, dodge, parry, kill. in particular i adore the showdown, its far better than the 'duels' in something like RDR. (call of juarez gunslinger is the only game i've seen do duels well)
speaking of cowboys, i wish we could see something similar for cowboys, RDR2 is more like chore sim and RDR1 actively discourages fun with the bounty system.
