It's honestly great and overlooked.
>visual inspiration from Trigun, Bebop, Phantom Menace
>double battles from the get-go make it feel like an actual RPG
>some of the best particle effects I've ever seen
>actual characters
Don't be fooled by people saying the battles take too long. They haven't played it.
I don’t think you’ve played it either.
Ive played it and they do. The quirky mons that waste time stumbling about to do everything are the worst
I don't understand TID and SID manipulation here. I calculated my initial seed using Battle Now, timed the game start with Eon Timer, then adjusted the calibration to match the delay. But when I tried again with another seed (which should be more accurate given the calibration shouldn't change regardless of seed and SID chosen) I still get another wacky number, not even closer to my target. The frick.
lol i just did this shit and had the same problem.
After calibrating, you have to aim for a target that’s not 500 frame away from your initial target. So if the first TID/SID you go for is 2000 frames in, the next targets you go for should be in the 1500-2500 range. It’s cause the game’s frame rate is inconsistent or something and can throw your numbers off, idk lol
Hope that makes sense. I only did some rng on gen 4 games before this, so I’m new to this colo and had to dig through a discord to find out why the numbers were way off
oh yeah this was also on a Wii. idk if it’s different on emulators
Shut up nerd
I guess I'll keep trying, thanks.
good luck. like i said, just aim for something that's not 500 frames or more away from your initial target and the numbers will be much more consistent. it just sucks to keep resetting until something you want comes up
I mean, I don't even know if I even can search for my original target. What I've been doing is finding my initial seed, plugging it into CoTool and checking SIDs that result from that spread in Pokefinder to see if I get spread results for all three Pokemon I want, and if so I attempt to get the TID/SID combo. Each initial seed is different, so the TID/SID combo I try for each time is different too.
> if I even can search for my original target
> Each initial seed is different, so the TID/SID combo I try for each time is different too.
i know, but that’s not what I meant. what I mean is you should stick to hitting frames that are close to your initial calibration. TID manipulation is funky in this game
Like if you try to hit a TID on frame 5000, miss, then calibrate for that, you shouldn’t then try to hit something on frame 7000. Stick to something in the 4500-5500 range
Oh alright. I'll try that.
sry if I’m explaining this weirdly, I did this like 2 weeks ago and barely touched the game afterwards lol
I manipped a tid for a shiny jolly sneasel and manipped a tid for shiny timid or modest legendary beasts on the Japanese version
last thing i did in the game was manipped this shiny dundunsparce
NEEEERRRRDS
The battles take forever. Was pissed off that I couldn't turn off animations. And my emulator on my phone can't handle the fast forward function so I'm stuck playing 1x speed.
That being said the game has soul and is comfy if you aren't in a rush. I like to play it before bed when I'm also more sluggish
>Battles take forever meme
I'd actually like to line up a battle in Emerald and Colosseum one day with the same mons and same moves being used, just to see how the speed fares.
Please do it just so you can embarrass yourself even more and make up a new cope about Colosseum being a good game.
Most of the battles in Emerald are singles and I doubt there's a copy of exact pokemon a trainer has versus Colosseum. You'd probably have to do it with another "player", but you'd have to account for the slight lag on Emerald and having to deal with doing two inputs if doing PvP mode.
>Most of the battles in Emerald are singles
You have not played Emerald.
It's been a while since I actually played it, but I've been watching someone doing a gen 3 living dex and yeah, most of Emerald is singles battles or can be singles battles if you don't get caught between two trainers.
There are tag battles fricking EVERYWHERE in Emerald. Sometimes more than just regular singles trainers.
The animations are fairly long and there's no option to disable them IIRC.
the text being instant makes it so battles last about the same
They do take longer than gen 3 battles by quite a large margin, don't kid yourself. Colosseum is a baller game, though. Problem I have is that whenever I play it, I end up using permutations of the same team
>Espeon
>Typhlosion/Entei
>Quagsire/Feraligatr
>Meganium/Jumpluff
>Ampharos/Plusle
>Altaria/Flygon/Hariyama
I really like Jumpluff, so I almost never go for Bayleef in Phenac
Have you tried using Furret? Pretty underrated in colosseum
Yeah, but I always feel like the slot it takes up is better utilized by other mons. I got a decent way through with it on my first or second time through, but I swapped it out for Vibrava when I caught it.
It's an enjoyable game but not greatly repayable
Orre is a good region. GoD (it's the weekend, I refuse to use the other title) is also a fun ride, though for me, Citadark Isle's always been a slog.
Colosseum is better than it's sequel
I'm not having fun with it so far
Too restrictive with the pokemon I can get, they'll always be the same every playthrough
experiment with a weather focused team
seems boring
you can run sunny day and have jumpluff outpseed everything too
Fake Tears is a garbage idea even in Gen 3 but I appreciate the enthusiasm. In the realm of Gen 2 shitmons Plusle has a chance to shine.
I really want but I hate fact it has no physical/special.
My favorite part of the game in hindsight is the restriction on Pokemon forcing me to use different ones and strategies I otherwise wouldn't bother with. Then throw doubles only on top of that made it a memorable experience
>NOOOOOO THE BATTLES TAKE "TOO LONG" BECAUSE THEY'RE PROPERLY ANIMATED AND POKEMON ACTUALLY MOVE
why are they like this?
The mainline games already have proper animations where the Pokemon actually move without wasting 10 seconds of my time.
>without wasting 10 seconds of my time.
They do?
Because they're a bunch of tourists who are only on /vp/ because they know that this board is a breeding ground of autists who feel the need to argue with every comment they disagree with
>a breeding ground of autists who feel the need to argue with every comment they disagree with
That's every single board on Ganker, without exception
Zoomies need everything to be fast and souless due to fricked up dopamine receptors
>zoomies
no, just anyone with standards
there's a reason why even other turn based RPGs have incredibly quick and simple animations instead of "the opponent stumbles back then does le ebin quirky animation while walking back into place to waste 8 seconds of your time" like the shitty genius sonority games do.
Hi Masuda. Are you still upset Colo/GoD btfos every game you've made?
Frick you.
You can watch your wacky gifs all you want, just don't make the rest of us who actually care about PLAYING the games suffer.
You are playing the game. It's part of the game. If you don't like it, play something else.
>You are playing the game
Yeah a fricking terrible one that pointlessly wastes my time all so a redditor who never touches the game can clap at le wacky cartoonish animations.
Then don't play. Why do you care what happens in a game you clearly don't like? These are battle simulator games for people who actually want to see battles simulated. These types of animations are the whole point of the game.
>Then don't play
That's what I'm doing by playing the superior mainline games instead.
>superior mainline games
Look how fast these animations are!
Because people here have forgotten to NOT feed the trolls.
Pretty sure they meant they'd rather that exp go to a pokemon they actually want on their team than to a shadow pokemon that's getting boxed as soon as it's purified.
The truth is Pokemon's battles have always been slow and too textual.
Everything by now should be conveyed with floating numbers and icons to denote status effects.
I'd like to get farther in Colosseum but the purification mechanic just really turns me off.
Having to lug around a shit Pokemon in battles and wasting exp that could have gone to other members isn't really fun, especially when there's limited battles.
just stay in hyper mode and keep mashing autocrit shadow rush, most pokemon become weaker once purified
Just go to Agate Town and auto-walk to purify as you do something else.
>wasting exp
It gets banked until you're purified.
today I will remind them
Same feeling.
To be fair, playing the modern main series at all just wastes your time on a bigger scale. 58-second turns that aren't even animated are nothing
>visual inspiration from Trigun, Bebop, Phantom Menace
I like the setting but it's just derivative of the time not purposeful inspiration.
>double battles from the get-go make it feel like an actual RPG
It would be cool if it was 2v2 instead of 2v1+"entered hyper mode".
>some of the best particle effects I've ever seen
play other games
>actual characters
forgettable except for mirror b
It's a boring, slow, tedious, side game, with models recycled from the first 3D Pokemon game. I wish I didn't actually play it and wouldn't know how overrated the game was. The difficulty is a meme, the game just turns training your pokemon into a chore.
>it's just derivative of the time not purposeful inspiration
>not inspired by bebop
>some of the best particle effects I've ever seen
>play other games
The battle particle animations still hold up in 2024, 20 years later. That's how good they are.
Colosseum and XD are basically just hallways and cutscenes. Everything people complain about in games like SM and SwSh but worse.
But SM is good.
The camera is underrated in Colosseum. They way it bobs and pivots around the Pokemon during battle is great. Focus on it next time you're playing.
>Trigun
Isn't that the anime where all the fans are gigantic fujoshi homosexuals who call the blond guy "woman-coded" or something
>tumblr mental illness
I just don't understand how Scarlet and Sword still haven't caught up to Battle Revolution's animations.
>I just don't understand how Scarlet and Sword actually cater to people who play the game instead of mouthbreathers who like watching long animations on youtube
Why should they? They don't need good animations to sell copies, frustrating I know.
>boot up gamecube
>put in colosseum
>enjoy it immensely
>save and quit
>go to play it later
>gamecube no longer reading discs
I had the roaming trio cleansed
It's Almost certainly fixable
https://www.ifixit.com/Wiki/Nintendo_GameCube_Troubleshooting#Section_GameCube_Does_Not_Read_Discs
I did play it, and while it was alright for a one-time playthrough I don't think I'm ever going to play it again. Purification is a fricking slog, the pokemon selection is awful, and the constant fricking interruptions by peons ambushing you every few steps later in the game genuinely got on my nerves.
I also can't even remember any of the "characters" except for le funneh afro homosexual.
I thought all the cipher admins were cool, very distinct personalities like pic related
the game is a slow grindfest and has very little replayability but it's still a classic
one of those things that is great the first time but meh otherwise
