Stat rolls are fucking cancer, but that applies to all of the Pokemon games worth playing.
>something nice about your least favorite
Being able to recall moves from the summary screen is convenient. It doesn't even have an adverse effect on singleplayer game balance because there's none to begin with.
>and your hottest take
Dunno how hot this is, but BW2 is very overrated and most of the issues that 'ruined' modern Pokemon started in BW.
>critique of your favorite pokemon game
Literally braindead easy (even easier than mainlines)
>something nice about your least favorite
Music is nice and the spritework too
>Give me a critique of your favorite pokemon game
>spin-off
the game gets worse as you go on. Post-game stories are a nice idea but many of them are too similar and drag on, and once Warrior Gallery carryover has you using final evolutions on almost all your warriors the game just becomes about how quickly you can snowball to victory. Also:
>only 1 or 2 overworld theme
Fuck that shit bruh if I have to hear it one more time i'm gonna rip my hair out
>mainline
Hoenn really was a downgrade from Johto in a few choice ways, most notably the lack of a day/night cycle. ORAS brought it back and it looks beautiful there, but it's such a missed opportunity otherwise. I don't mind it too much, but it's definitely a downgrade.
>something nice about your least favorite
>spin-off
Trozei is probably a fun concept, I'm just retarded and don't like being overwhelmed so much in a puzzle game. I also think that the actual Pokémon icons themselves look really good- them and the title screen are easily the best displays of its unique visual design.
>mainline
can't deny that SV had really good characters, I actually found myself enjoying some of the dialogue as opposed to speeding through it. Also that fucking climax was really cool- even if there wasn't much substance to it and the ending was bullshit, I'm a sucker for intense fights like that so it kind of sweetened me on the game even if it's still my least favorite. Also, the storyline made me love the box legendaries. That was genuinely great.
>and your hottest take.
BW > BW2 probably, I've got a lot of other takes but idk which ones are hot. Also, gen 6 > gen 7
no day/night cycle in gen 3 was because the gba had no backlight at the time so you wouldn't be able to see anything.
I get that, but I still would've preferred it being there. I already live someplace tropical and shit never changes here, Hoenn didn't need to take that a step further and remove the only remaining differences in places like this lol.
Also, doesn't the screen still darken during rain? Why not just use that same dimming for nighttime and add reflections?
>Give me a critique of your favorite pokemon game
Sword and shield was fucking dogwater in almost every aspect lmao
>something nice about your least favorite
The whole rainbow rocket thing was pretty cool
>and your hottest take
Gen 8 VGC before the crown tundra was the best competitive pokemon has ever been since gen 3 and that is largely due to the dexcut.
>Give me a critique of your favorite pokemon game
BW/BW2 also have a lot of cutscenes to mash through which makes replaying them pretty unfun
Also, a lot of S/Vs appeal is how easy it is to break, and while that is entertaining it is also technically a negative
>something nice about your least favorite
Sw/Sh has one of the best regional dexes in the franchise and like 300 of them being available before the first gym is really cool
>your hottest tak
Munkidori is the best of its trio, the Fezandipity is a boring bird who was introduced in the same Gen as Espathra and Okidogi is only okay.
>Critique of favorite Pokemon game
Emerald requires an insane amount of grinding if you want to 100% the game.
>Say something nice about your least favorite Pokemon game
Everyone who worked on ORAS is going to be dead some day, and that makes me smile.
>Hottest take
I thought I wanted an open world Pokemon game, until PLA and SV. If every open world game that Gamefreak shits out is going to look worse than Classic WoW, then I'd rather they just keep making hallway simulators.
>Give me a critique of your favorite pokemon game
The start takes forever, so replaying gets annoying, and I'm not a fan of the endgame either. Story and music is great though.
>something nice about your least favorite
I didn't waste time playing it. Some cool pokemon designs though.

(You)r favorite game is the worst
>Give me a critique of your favorite pokemon game,
It sucks a million cocks how you can't get Sneasel in HGSS until near the end of the fucking game. There is NO reason why they couldn't put it in Ice Path like in Crystal, or stick it in the Safari Zone like with Murkrow, Larvitar, and Houndour. Also, Pokegear calling sucks fucking ass compared to the Vs. Seeker.
>something nice about your least favorite,
I didn't play USUM, SWSH, or SV, so I'll have to go with XY. Uh... I liked the rollerskating, and Super Training, and horde battles, and I liked that they fixed some of the attack names.
>and your hottest take.
Double battles should be the norm.
>critique of 3
the villain team is absolutely awful and so are their motives. i hated that i couldnt get most older pokemon in the game. battle facility was pretty frustrating if youre younger and dont have a good team cause you just used your favorite monster like delcatty or some shit. the contests could have also been a lot more fun. the dying battery that kills the berry trees sucks. feebas.
>something nice about 8/9
i dont dislike all of the pokemon. the open world concept in itself is a fun gameplay idea so is finding stuff on the ground. i like that there is no level scaling in sv. some of the gmax forms are cool. scorbunny has some of my favorite colors. the tera effect is pretty. (even if im not a fan of the stiff crowns)
>hot take
is this a hot take? cave dungeons are terrible and i dont miss them in games that dont have them. im not against dungeons in general. i just think the way they were implemented in pokemon was annoying and always made me groan when i had to go into one. ugliest places in the game. not knowing which path is the right one and taking the "right" path was incorrect or i wouldnt get an item. every tile was an encounter tile with fucking zubat so either you had to use sprays or torture yourself if you forgot them. going back all the way just to get an hm slave for certain ones cause opsie theres a waterfall/rock puzzle/rock trail whatever in this one. the labyrinth like design with the many "doors" that made me just spend even longer in a place i hated. just no.
I agree with you in regard to caves. I think that Ice Path is an ideal cave dungeon, because it's largely linear, the encounters aren't too annoying, and it's visually distinct. But even that one is kind of ruined by "Surprise! You need Strength here!".
>critique of your favorite pokemon game
The level curve in HGSS is still completely fucked
Hard Mode of B2W2 being locked behind keys is gay stupid bullshit and completely defeats the point of it
>something nice about your least favorite
I can remember anything about Kalos or the gym leaders there but it still has some Pokémon designs I really like

The level scaling is absolute ass, as is locking some of the best pokemon that were introduced that generation after the E4.

Great customization, and Friend Safari was a solid way to let players catch pokemon otherwise unattainable in the region. Plus, you know, the whole Wonder Trade thing.

I really like FRLG's soundfont
also I don't necessarily hate FRLG, its just super average, like the "default" pokemon game. There's no mainline pokemon game i activity dislike not even swshit

Megas were the best thing to happen to the franchise in a long while and they need to return and become a permanent part of the series, with new ones too
>Critique
Black and White's dex being locked to only the National Dex makes for really bad "same team syndrome" that Platinum is usually made fun of. Having most of the Pokemon evolve stupidly late also make them borderline unusable in later gens, like Bisharp evolving at LEVEL FUCKING 54.
While I don't like B2W2, it is technically in the same gen, so I'll critique it too. B2W2 spams way more cutscenes at you than OG BW, and the increased number of samey shitmon Plasma grunt gauntlets make it an incredibly tiring game to play through.
>Say something nice
Gen 3 has some of the best designs in the series and well-liked starters in the franchise, and while most people don't bother with Secret Bases and the Battle Facilities, it's really nice that they included them and it's a very clear sign that the games were made with passion in them.
>Hot Take
BW is better than B2W2, I guess?
Also, male protagonist designs and customizable options became shit after XY. (Though B2W2 also had a really bad male protag design.)

Gen 4 was the last time people were able to freely battle any way that they wanted and still have a chance to win if they know what they are doing, even with Garchomp, especially in Pokemon Battle Revolution.
Gen 5 Weather Wars was cancer
Gen 6 and 7 had Mega's and Z moves
Dynamaxing and Tera has now become a giant of smogonites Reeeeing at everything with no proper counter against power creep
>give me a critique of your favorite pokemon game
FRLG. Nothing, it's perfect.
>something nice about your least favorite
I can safely say LGPE without offending anyone. The color-type specific backgrounds when viewing your Pokemon's stats are gorgeous and the best in the series.
>hottest take
Greedent is one of the best Pokemon designs of all time.
>Nothing, it's perfect.
Not even locking gen2 evolutions to post-game (ie Crobat?)
Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee didn't have new evolutions mainly because it would throw off the balance of certain Pokemon and their encounter rate when compared to the level curve.
I would like to assume this was the same case with FRLG, but the fact that the pokemon still exist and locked is really silly

BW was the start of Pokémon games having intrusive stories

SwSh’s music is pretty good, if over-reliant on the same leitmotif. Also it gave us Orbeetle and Dragapult.

Legends was a catching simulator with serious potential, but did not feel like a proper $60 Pokémon game at all. I would love to see its concepts included in a more mainline game, like seamless battles, throwing balls and items in the overworld; and the varied environmental interactions that Pokémon have with the player, the world and each other. Volo battle was kino though.
>the varied environmental interactions that Pokémon have with the player, the world and each other.
SV already did that better than LEends did honestly. A Pachirisu eating a berry an then climbing up into a tree, Pincurchin hiding under Wugtrio, or a Sandygast melting in the rain are already more complex behaviors than most of what Legends had.
>But did not feel like a proper $60 Pokemon game at all
None of the Switch Pokemon games feel worth $60, Legends at least had the content to keep playing without forcing you to do multiplayer

The E4 is ass, especially the downgrade of Steven to Wallace.
The music in DP is fantastic (I didn't play past gen 7 so I'm leaving gen 8 and 9 out of the least favorite discussion).
They should have stopped making new pokemon and focused on the ones that already exist long ago. Maybe even after mew.

Emerald, and by extension all of gen 3 have been permanently tainted by their decision to mute the color palettes of all official art from the era to match the GBA display. It makes everything look sickly in comparison to every design theory before and since, especially gen 7 onward.
>least favorite praise
XY's PSS was by far some of the best utilization of the second screen in all DS family games with ORAS improving it further, and it's a shame nothing since has been even remotely close to it.
>hottest take
Movies to promote mythicals are a good thing and I'm tired of pretending that drumming up additional media influence with the movies and their associated events for the games isn't a nice thing to revive online discussions. Ashime itself doesn't count aside from tournaments and Ash's scheduled execution within the month which are also special events for the franchise similar to the movies.

It should be obvious by now but the Dex Cut isn't inherently bad, Gamefreak just absolutely suck at how they handled that entire situation, cause otherwise PLA and SV to an extent started doing a lot more with the current Pokemon that the effort can be seen. We need more of this, we also need more availability cause the fact that we are now 5 games in and there are still Pokemon locked in Home is bullshit
Also, competitive BDSP was fun as fuck and I hate that it got dropped so quickly.

I'm still mad about Rose because I loved the fucker originally and they could've done so much better, Clavell was a better Rose and I would be damned if he turned out a villain.

Smogon will always be fucked when they constantly get mad that other strategies need to be accounted for. Constantly changing everything to fit what a meta should be in YOUR eyes ruins a lot of the fun, especially cause a lot of what Showdown does vs VGC does end up being too similar anyway.
