You just built him like shit bro. I made my Astarion a Battlemaster/Thief hybrid and he shoots with his dual hand crossbows 4 times per round (6 with action surge), does a ton of damage with sharpshooter, and has like 23 AC. He also disarms traps, pickpockets vendors, and unlocks everything.

I don't know what caused it but I didn't really have a choice. The little homosexual literally tried biting my neck/sexually assaulting me in my sleep, so I had to put a stake through him.
(I haven't progressed much since then but the rest of the party was cool about it and understood and hasn't said anything else, so I think we're okay)
