Game content has been significantly streamlined to the lowest common denominator. I still remember how insane the 2.0 relics were and how much ass you had to bust to do it.
Now? Hit the "skip cutscene" button a couple times, buy a few rocks with tomes that you had at cap already because there's not reason to use them, and that's it. It's so incredibly dry and unengaging.
They hard pivoted to a "everyone gets a trophy" design for XIV. Not much is sacred or impressive anymore. The gameplay has also been streamlined so much that there are extremely few ways to show skill expression outside ultimates and solo deep dungeons. So why the frick would you put 100 hours into an MMO weekly when the gameplay is boring and the biggest reaction to your new mount/minion/glam is "oh yeah, I should probably go farm that later myself". The only people that like this are the second life limsa idling modders, which is why they are flourishing right now.
TLDR: Nothing wrong with you, CBU3 has let their golden egg begin to rot.

Maybe you just had enough? It's not normal to spend that much time on something and somehow not get bored of it. It's actually pretty ridiculous to expect it to stay as fun for so long. Even single player games that offer much more unique content and no repetitive grinds really start to overstay their welcome at 100-200 hours. Find yourself some other fun games. Or take a break from video games entirely, do something else fun for a while.

They have diverted staff to work on the 7.0 graphics overhaul and modernize/add trusts to all the MSQ content up to lvl70 and it feels like there’s less content because they replaced Eureka/Bozja with Island Sanctuary which has a shorter shelf-life because there’s no relic attached and little to do on the island once you’re maxed.

Because both of those are P2W, they're both paying for power. Pay-for-convenience is making something basic about the game incredibly slow or annoying to do and selling a solution. An obvious example would be those KMMOs were you just nuke enemies and they litter the floor with loot, but the game has no AoE looting. So they sell you a pet that automatically picks up loot for you.
Yup. Another popular one is selling teleport scrolls, movement speed buffs and faster mounts. Pretty sure XIV has the fast mounts, since Cloud's bike moves at speed without the need for riding maps.

I've tried the trial like three times by this point. It just hasn't hooked me from a gameplay perspective. And what I've seen of gameplay of later levels just doesn't seem worth the grind to get there.
I've tried the game like 2 times way back In Heavensward I think and only gave it a real try in 2019. Before I only got to lvl 30 or something, on the real attempt I blew through the entire story in one go.

Bozja was fricking garbage and ruined Mikoto as a character. Frick Bozja. Every part of it pisses me off.
The story in FF14 is largely between good to excellent, but Bozja is without question the absolute worst writing in the entire game, it's just fricking dreadful. If you look at the story as a whole, the WoL doesn't even actually do anything, you could excise him completely from the story and it would have all just been done by the Blades without any consequence.
And that's without even going into shit like trying to present unhinged, cruel psychos like Lyon as sympathetic when they run around torturing and executing PoWs. The fact that the story setup Mikoto's death from the very start, never let us do anything with from start to finish, never had her do anything with it from start to finish and just had her get saved by Fran teleporting in at that exact moment, to that exact spot. It's insane. I could write a fricking essay about why Bozja is horrible.
How exactly did Bozja ruin Mikoto? Legitimate question, I didn't play Bozja past DR and it was so long since I did the actual Ivalice quests that I remember barely anything about her before that besides being a nerd lizard girl.
During the Ivalice raids Mikoto was very adamant about supporting you from the back row because she sucks at combat.

If you have road to 70, or I guess it would be 80 now, you should level up 1 red DPS job you like via MSQ quests and level up 1 healer or tank for when you need to do the dungeons since it's a faster que.
Yes, it's 100% EXP to literally everything, even gatherers, crafters, Blue Mage. It lasts for like 3 months and even if you do hit 80 (or 70) the moment you switch to a lower level job it comes back.
DPS job does the MSQ quests since they'll kill shit faster and Blue / Green for the dungeon quests and what not. If you fall into the completetionist XIV pit it's absolutely invaluable being able to level every job up to 80 with 100% more XP, and even faster if you use the XP scrolls for leveling, gathering, crafting or the guild XP buff ones if you don't have scrolls.
If you unlock squadrons at the Grand Companies or whatever you can grind dungeons with much piss ass stronger NPCs than trusts or players. They're dumb mother frickers but they absolutely smash once you get 2+ aggressive stance.

Ironically only other shitters have expectations on performance since they struggle and think it even requires brainpower to get through. You'll find very quickly that dungeons are braindead easy content to do while watching stuff on a second monitor. If I see dumb shit like a tank with no tank stance I just let it roll since it becomes entertainment to see what these people do/how long until someone notices.
The only thing people expect is basic competence. Use your defensive cooldowns, have your job stone on, etc. Anything above and beyond that is just a bonus.

You will be surprised. I've heard multiple stories about DPS not doing their rotation during prog because they're just trying to learn mechanics, not understanding that part of learning the fight is executing your rotation around the mechanics.
Fun fact, pulling another pack makes the trust AI do less damage overall, if you're the tank its pointless as the AI can't keep up damage output and eventually run out of resources
Their damage adjusts to effectively make sure you finish the dungeon in approx 30 minutes
If you're just doing trusts because you want to take the story at your own pace and get as many npc interactions as possible, then you're probably not gonna be pulling more than one pack at a time anyway.

I will die on this fricking hill. Volcanic heart is melee propaganda with absolutely 0 viable sightlines. C9 had a neat mechanic that punished you for abusing shield, and created tech for stuns/silences in that time.
Volcanic Heart literally has the Crystal moving across straight open lines. And ranged can literally CC a person during the explosion period without having to risk getting exploded themselves. C9 is garbage, nothing but open sight lines for range to frick melee and the one worst gimmick in PvP, having to waste your guard to avoid 30k damage or run to one of the 2 or 3 circles that give you feather foot. AND EVEN IF YOU GET FEATHER, THE PERSON WHO JUST GOT LAUNCHED WILL STILL RECOVER BEFORE YOU AND CAN BURST YOU DOWN WHILST YOUR RECOVERING! What a terrible map.

That map is literally nothing but empty sightlines, what the frick are you smoking? Melee literally have no cover from the middle to the first checkpoint. And then when they do get to the first checkpoint they get one fricking corner, that is useless because they're fighting on point, meanwhile range can literally just sit next to the HP and poop out free damage.
It's not fully free to play and I can't group up with my friends without subbing. Complete bullshit. Basic social MMO functions shouldn't be locked away behind a paywall.

Game content has been significantly streamlined to the lowest common denominator. I still remember how insane the 2.0 relics were and how much ass you had to bust to do it.
Now? Hit the "skip cutscene" button a couple times, buy a few rocks with tomes that you had at cap already because there's not reason to use them, and that's it. It's so incredibly dry and unengaging.
They hard pivoted to a "everyone gets a trophy" design for XIV. Not much is sacred or impressive anymore. The gameplay has also been streamlined so much that there are extremely few ways to show skill expression outside ultimates and solo deep dungeons. So why the frick would you put 100 hours into an MMO weekly when the gameplay is boring and the biggest reaction to your new mount/minion/glam is "oh yeah, I should probably go farm that later myself". The only people that like this are the second life limsa idling modders, which is why they are flourishing right now.
TLDR: Nothing wrong with you, CBU3 has let their golden egg begin to rot.

Maybe you just had enough? It's not normal to spend that much time on something and somehow not get bored of it. It's actually pretty ridiculous to expect it to stay as fun for so long. Even single player games that offer much more unique content and no repetitive grinds really start to overstay their welcome at 100-200 hours. Find yourself some other fun games. Or take a break from video games entirely, do something else fun for a while.

They have diverted staff to work on the 7.0 graphics overhaul and modernize/add trusts to all the MSQ content up to lvl70 and it feels like there’s less content because they replaced Eureka/Bozja with Island Sanctuary which has a shorter shelf-life because there’s no relic attached and little to do on the island once you’re maxed.
16 cannabalization started with HW. If anything SB had more content than any expansion since so that doesn’t explain things.

An obvious example would be those KMMOs were you just nuke enemies and they litter the floor with loot, but the game has no AoE looting. So they sell you a pet that automatically picks up loot for you.

The story in FF14 is largely between good to excellent, but Bozja is without question the absolute worst writing in the entire game, it's just fricking dreadful. If you look at the story as a whole, the WoL doesn't even actually do anything, you could excise him completely from the story and it would have all just been done by the Blades without any consequence.
And that's without even going into shit like trying to present unhinged, cruel psychos like Lyon as sympathetic when they run around torturing and executing PoWs. The fact that the story setup Mikoto's death from the very start, never let us do anything with from start to finish, never had her do anything with it from start to finish and just had her get saved by Fran teleporting in at that exact moment, to that exact spot. It's insane. I could write a fricking essay about why Bozja is horrible.

If you have road to 70, or I guess it would be 80 now, you should level up 1 red DPS job you like via MSQ quests and level up 1 healer or tank for when you need to do the dungeons since it's a faster que.

You should especially do so if you have road to 80. The exp you gain is going to be bonkers and you'll start wasting a lot of msq exp.
Yes, it's 100% EXP to literally everything, even gatherers, crafters, Blue Mage. It lasts for like 3 months and even if you do hit 80 (or 70) the moment you switch to a lower level job it comes back.
DPS job does the MSQ quests since they'll kill shit faster and Blue / Green for the dungeon quests and what not. If you fall into the completetionist XIV pit it's absolutely invaluable being able to level every job up to 80 with 100% more XP, and even faster if you use the XP scrolls for leveling, gathering, crafting or the guild XP buff ones if you don't have scrolls.
If you unlock squadrons at the Grand Companies or whatever you can grind dungeons with much piss ass stronger NPCs than trusts or players. They're dumb mother frickers but they absolutely smash once you get 2+ aggressive stance.
There's tons of ways to make leveling suck less.

And you can do literally nothing to prevent or counter miracle of nature, for somehing on a 25 second CD its disgustingly broken

All you need is about 4 SCHs on your team and you will dominate the other teams
Pop a good debuff spread on a crowded stack at the same time and the combined DoT's will be doing like 20k damage a tick

I have no problem with doing regular easy dungeons, it's when there is actual difficulty and people have expectations that I can't get myself to do.
Ironically only other shitters have expectations on performance since they struggle and think it even requires brainpower to get through. You'll find very quickly that dungeons are braindead easy content to do while watching stuff on a second monitor. If I see dumb shit like a tank with no tank stance I just let it roll since it becomes entertainment to see what these people do/how long until someone notices.
The only thing people expect is basic competence. Use your defensive cooldowns, have your job stone on, etc. Anything above and beyond that is just a bonus.
I doubt this when it comes to Extreme/Savage/etc.

If you're just doing trusts because you want to take the story at your own pace and get as many npc interactions as possible, then you're probably not gonna be pulling more than one pack at a time anyway.

NGL I'm finding it harder to do in EW. I think the MSQ being so subpar storywise takes away my motivation to actually go through those side stories too.

I will die on this fricking hill. Volcanic heart is melee propaganda with absolutely 0 viable sightlines. C9 had a neat mechanic that punished you for abusing shield, and created tech for stuns/silences in that time.
Volcanic Heart literally has the Crystal moving across straight open lines. And ranged can literally CC a person during the explosion period without having to risk getting exploded themselves. C9 is garbage, nothing but open sight lines for range to frick melee and the one worst gimmick in PvP, having to waste your guard to avoid 30k damage or run to one of the 2 or 3 circles that give you feather foot. AND EVEN IF YOU GET FEATHER, THE PERSON WHO JUST GOT LAUNCHED WILL STILL RECOVER BEFORE YOU AND CAN BURST YOU DOWN WHILST YOUR RECOVERING! What a terrible map.

Dude, the crystal literally moves along straight lines and both checkpoints are in hallways. Melee actually being rewarded for proper positioning is a good thing.

Never said they were, the difference is that most ranged that have CC can apply their CC from ranged, meanwhile melee has to risk fricking up the timing and getting hit by the explosion whenever they CC. Even BRD, the one ranged that has to get close to apply one of their CC abilities puts them at range afterwards.

That map is literally nothing but empty sightlines, what the frick are you smoking? Melee literally have no cover from the middle to the first checkpoint. And then when they do get to the first checkpoint they get one fricking corner, that is useless because they're fighting on point, meanwhile range can literally just sit next to the HP and poop out free damage.

DRK questline was pretty based. They need to bring back the class questlines in general tbh.
Dropping the job quests has resulted in so many npcs that were relatively close to WoL just basically disappearing from the game, it's a shame.

The only reason I'm not paying for a level boost and MSQ completion is because it IS one of the things I want to do. I would rather just not have to do all of it at once.

I know I can play any job on any character in this game, but are there any jobs in particular you would recommend I try? I have very little experience with MMOs but think I would probably enjoy being some kind of tank or either flavor of magic user.
