I use the A key to attack and S to shoot enemies from a distance. as far as dungeon crawlers go I think might and magic did combat the best actually.
Shin Megami Tensei
A game where every battle is nothing but selecting the auto-battle button. Also
>Walk one step
>Get 3 random battles
>Walk another step
>Get 3 random battles again
>Walk two steps
>Get 3 random battles again
I fail to see the problem
you also fail to see your penis when you look down
cuz it's inside ur mom
You can also talk to the demons and have a conversation. If you’re strong enough they usually won’t fight you.
You ever think that...that's just what the genre is?
Give me one sidescrolling platformer with decent car racing
Jesus christ why are they all about jumping
Does it have to be car racing?
How many sidescrolling platformers feature car racing? How many dungeon crawlers feature combat? YOUR LOGIC FRICKING SUCKS.
He's trying to say that the stuff you're complaining about is what defines the genre. And you should look to a different genre if you want the things you say you want.
I'm not the OP, but what I'm trying to say is that combat is an integral part of a dungeon crawler, unlike auto racing in a sidescrolling platformer. So in a way, we agree.
Modern crawlers combat is fine, with a few games having it good, like Grimrock, Vaporum, and MMX.
I think there are different ideas about this genre, and one of them involve preparation and setting up your party as such they will obliterate everything in their path. of course there's also ones that mainly focus on mapping and puzzles, and even ones with real time combat and platforming like Battlespire. I see no problem in games accomodating all these different interests.
Just play slay the spire
Play turn-based ones and not the real-time ones. M&M 1 and 2, Wizardry 1-3, all solid dungeon crawlers where you don't need to wear out your mouse or keyboard to play.
M&M 3-5 and Wizardry 5-7 are also full-turn-based.
>RETRO DUNGEON CRAWLER WITH DECENT COMBAT
Doesn't exist.
Define decent combat.
Doom
swords 'n serpents
Wizardry 8
>WAH THE GAME I AM PLAYING IS NOT THE GAME I WANT TO PLAY
Dungeios: Lords of Sorcery
there's no auto-battle and fights are relatively rare, so it's the opposite of a spammy game as each encounter is meaningful. there's way more emphasis on puzzles too, but unfortunately half your party are made up of pre-made story npcs which can be bad for those who prefer a completely customized party
>Dungeios: Lords of Sorcery
Can't find it on google. What game is it?
>M&M 3-5
You forgot Swords of Xeen.
>Lords of Sorcery
Can't find this game anywhere, too.
I clickspammed your mum's cervix with my penis actually tbqh
I did it first.
Thank you, will try that.
The encounters are meaningful, you need to think strategically or tactically and be aware of your surroundings to minimize losses/survive. Vaporum and Grimrock did it good.
You sure it's playing well? MM and Bard's Tale are turn-based, but you still spam "attack" there without any thought.
Looks nice.
Gold Box games.
Shiren the wanderer.
Realms of Arkania.
Combat happens in a comfy isometric turn-based tactical screen.
speaking of, how's the remake? they said it's a much easier entry to the series than the original but not sure if they dumbed it down a lot or changed the story.
It's ok and janky, nothing out of the ordinary.
The original games had tons of bugs, balancing issues, etc. But had their charm. The remakes have tons of bugs, combat is easier but slower and the graphics have that cheapo aesthetic
These random hate threads in vr make me nostalgic for the games for some reason, a vr hate thread made me replay betrayal at krondor start to finish for the first time in 15 years. Now I want to do a MM3-5 run
Betrayal at Krondor. Played it 30 years ago and I still remember that one spell: Despair Thy Eyes! Combat is turn based.
Whoa nice, I had a vague memory of a weird digitized-photo RPG from a shareware disc, and this was it. Thanks!
Your only option is literally wizardry
Shining
>b-but
Don't care. It's soulkino.
