Game is linear, and a lot of the bosses just aren't fun. The only good boss that sticks out in my mind is Fuoco.

I enjoyed it. Wish cube is useless but I think all the other gameplay mechanics are great. There should have been an actual boss at the end of the hermit's cave. If Sophia had to power to rewind time, I feel like she should have had extra dialogue in ng+, I am being filtered by the swamp monster so maybe there is some later though.

The last chapter has four boss fights which makes up for it.
The game's finale is wierd because the actual final dungeon is so meh but it has 3 fantastic bosses in it. The final boss is actually the best boss in the game, something that rarely seems to happen in games.

once i stopped playing it like Eldensouls, it made a lot more sense. you can fairly well flowchart all the bosses once you understand the core game mechanics.
The hitboxes in the game are legit great. I was fighting Victor today, and he went to do his grab attack. I was in the middle of attacking, so I was sure I was going to hit, however Viktor just straight up missed the grab. Why? Because I didn't PHYSICALLY CONNECT WITH HIS HAND, and the attack had practically no tracking at all either. And that's another thing, it's very refreshing to see enemies that don't do a 180 in place on every attack to track you like you have an electromagnet on your head.

It's really frustrating when the Parade Master, the very first boss, does his fury attack, he's standing on his tiptoes and is off balance but somehow is able to track you no matter which direction you roll/run. Of all the bosses to get that ability.

Decided to look up everything after my blind run to see what I missed out on, and Real Boy Ending is too fricked for me, I love my Hotel bros, Eugenie is my wife and Venigni is my fren. Plus you also miss out on the true final boss.

The funniest thing with Laxasia just staying in air is I ended up killing her by chucking thermite at her while right below her, since her lightning couldn't hit me and I had nothing better to do. Even with 5 Advance, that shit's like 600 damage.
I mainly hated Laxasia simply because she did so much damage.
My first attempt was getting 2-pieced for 100% of my hp at 25 Vigor
She just spiked too hard in damage in my opinion, when nothing else ever came close to how much she put out, even the bosses after her
Really good. Fighting feels better than most any Souls game thanks to perfect guards being a universal mechanic, lets you play ultra aggressively with a character that already has smooth controls. Visually looks good, wish music was more like the records you get since those are notably better than the usual music, though the few times it has environmental music those are way better than boss themes too.
Really surprised me given it's from a dev that's never done this stuff before, and they put out something that's pretty easily in my top 5 souls genre games. Between that and bumming it off of a friend's gamepass account, it blew away my expectations.
How do I beat this fricker?
His first phase isn't too bad, just learn his moves and don't get greedy. Like all carcasses he's weak to slashing weapons and fire. I don't know exactly what happened, but one time on the second phase he flipped around and I just fought the big face again with a few new moves. Was easier than the skinny side and I won. I don't really remember more specifics
Memorize first phase moves, then at 2nd phase you can just run around behind him and basically just do it again.
I was gonna "try" to learn his worm side moveset, but he did a move that turned himself around and I ended up just fighting butt face again for the win.
I should also mention by this time you may want to be somewhat invested into a weapon that you like or plan on using. I think I was at +5 Pipe Wrench at this point

Once second phase it's in the <30 % play defensively and throw the Thermites to cleanly kill him off

Very good, but I got bored partway through. Not necessarily a criticism, I'm just bored of Souls games by now after playing them so much for like 10 fricking years now. It feels just as good as any Soulsborne game I've ever played, I'm just kinda bored with the formula. Its Sekiro-ish combat twist was nice, but not enough. I'll get back to it in a few weeks maybe.

Bosses are fun but the levels are too easy and straightforward. Normal enemies are a joke and you will only die in a level from the big miniboss type enemies. There's something wrong with the lockon too. Once you're locked onto an enemy, moving the stick to lock on to a different enemy rarely works.

I've flip-flopped on weapons a lot but I decided to put my half moonstones in the dancer's blade. Seems to be a solid option that works with a bunch of different handles, and also it's cool. I see that its handle, and the handles of several other weapons, have the parry counterattack ability. Perfect guards are hard enough to pull off, having a simple timing mechanism. I know I'll never be able to pull off that guard parry ability

I'd say 3 issues:
1. Lack of poise
2. Extremely dumb bosses, you need to memorize their timings to effectively parry. At some point your reaction time doesn't matter because the artifical delays are so bad.
3. OSTs aren't memorable at all, except for records. They show they can make memorable music, so why the frick is Fuoco's theme the only one I remember at all.
If they fixed those issues, it would easily be even better than most fromsoft games. Btw I don't care about level linearity at all, it's not a straight corridor, there are some small side tracks and for me that's enough.
Alice and maybe even Jungle Book are probably over Pinocchio.

The Puppets were great and fun enemies, but the Carcasses were boring and uninspired. They should've just kept the puppet theme instead of having carcasses.
Some bosses are way too easy like Victor, Fallen Archbishop and Romeo. I had more trouble with some mini bosses than I did with them.

Pinocchio is just having a moment for some reason but it's definitely not more adapted than Alice or older fairy tales.
I really enjoyed the game and I think it's pretty solid for their first go at a soulslike. If there ever is a sequel, they just need to further refine mechanics like the gold coin tree, wishstones, and the weapon assembly feature. I would also appreciate less linearity in terms of level design, but what was there was pretty solid in my opinion. I also think that the weapon movesets in the game blow actual Souls games out of the water except maybe Bloodborne. The Eastern sword alone has a more complex moveset than anything you can pick up in, say, DS3 or Elden Ring. I was floored when I got my hands on it and tried it out.

Her entire playstyle revolves around her ruby slippers, the player can switch between different dance styles akin to dmc, each style has its own moveset and combinations with different effects, utility, strengths and weaknesses. You'd start with a typical dance style, before learning powerful swing dancing styles, complete with the jitterbug as you work with her companions, each one helps in giving you new techniques. She'd have to learn more contemporary styles like break dancing to keep it fresh. But none of the dumbass zoomie dancing shit just cool stuff.

Yes its a soulsclone down to the core, but the story, setting, music and characters do have their own identity to stand out. Arlecchino's dialogue in particular when you find him is very memorable, the voice acting really catches the whole demented aspect.
People complain about combat precisely because they want to play it like a souls game and while that is entirely possible, the game is very punishing if you don't master the parry mechanic (or just use the Aegis shield as a crutch against bosses to make the whole thing less miserable).
The linearity is both a pro and a con as it is very straightforward game but there are not that many secrets or shit to explore like the open world in Elding Ring (which is mostly barren anyways so lol)

Lord of the Fallen (2023) has literally nothing common with Lords of the Fallen (2014) except taking place in same universe, but 1000 years later. Apart from the evil god bad guy there doesn’t seem to be anything carried over.
There’s zero crossover in developers. Deck13 made LOTF(2014) which was shit, then they made The Surge, which was decent, then The Surge 2 which was excellent. If they were making LOTF (2023) I would be very excited since their games got massively better each new entry. And their level design and use of 3D space is honestly better than Fromsoft a lot of the time. Surge 2’s main hub area is incredible.
But Deck13 are not involved with LOTF(2023), the publisher owns the rights and has been trying to make it for like 8 years, switched developer 3 times and was considered vapourware for ages. The dev team are brand new, never made anything before.
So I’m very hesitant to be excited. But you never know, it could be good. Lies of P’s devs only history was a shit mmo, so anything is possible. I hope it’s good.

if you are an absolute gigashitter who can't pass this fight then:
- summon the specter just for the other rabbits to aggro him instead of you
- use the shield, if you activate it and then repeatedly press the normal guard button at the same time, ANY attack you receive will be a perfect block that deals high posture damage, so you can break the big guy's sword in half, he will be just as agressive but will deal significantly less damage
>lrn2parry. Break his sword before you even start trying to fight him
>one of his siblings will jump in every time you take a quarter of his health off (ninja girl, buckethead dragoon, grapple hook swordsman in the order)
>focus on taking them out when they jump in. If you broke Eldest’s sword he’s easy enough to avoid while fighting the other
>DON’T overcommit or you’re going to get swamped
>you can potentially avoid fighting the final brother and just go all in on Eldest at the end because the fight ends as soon as you beat him

Summon a specter, fight the big guy ubtil the first sibling comes. At that point, let the specter grab aggro and start throwing every elemental consumable at the main boss. Even with no points in Advance, he should die after around the 10th item
I put a bunch of points in advance and the presence of a guy who sells you all the thrown bombs you could want immediately before them implies the developers are encouraging that strategy.

only charged heavy attack does that, but many times you will find bosses attacking or moving too much for you to land that hit so you can just throw the ball and frick them up
also, keep in mind the flashing white thing lasts only a few seconds so you may miss that window while you are dodging/blocking/moving/whatever so I recommend always keep a hand on one of those when fighting bosses

There's an easy big guy right by the last stargazer between you and the boss who gives you 500+ plus a few small ones for 100+ and the merchant is right there.
If you watch the original cinematic trailer you can figure out now that it's depicting Geppetto using the Nameless Puppet to slaughter his way through the monsters in the Cathedral to get the Arm of God (Cecile stole it from the Alchemists, Andreus tried to use it and turned into the One Winged Angel, and then Geppetto stole it from the Cathedral). Kind of cool to fill in the blanks because it's not explained well in-game.

I think a lot of encounters would be trivialised with a range option, if they add flying monkeys as grunts they better add range though. Falcon eyes is pretty good as is though.

Would make things a bit too easy. Better off having the limited throwables and if you really want to go full Mega Man there’s always Falcon Eyes.
its a very solid game. the combination of sekiro block and bloodborne health regain works extremely well and gives a lot of options when dealing with enemies. frankly, it should be the standard from now on. it makes turnarounds from almost dead to boss kill extremely fun because playing aggressive even when 1 hit from death gets rewarded

It took me 3.5 hours to defeat swamp monster. Am I bad?
Took me an hour to beat it. The only boss I took longer on was the first Black Rabbit fight, but I did beat the Black Rabbit fight pretty quickly when I gave up, and just ran away the entire time. Would run away until it was safe to get one hit in, and then ran away again until it was safe again.

that alone would've taken you probably half an hour
4minutes 30 seconds for the first Black Rabbit fight, I ran away while chipping down the big guy and the girl & polearm dude. I rushed down the big guy after I killed the polearm dude with fireweapon + all of my special attack charges.
7 minutes for the second fight. I spent a lot of time getting the remaining two down to a sliver of life so I could kill them both at the same time, and then only fight the buy guy alone.
I fought the swamp monster straight up, he wasn't hard to parry in the first form once I learned his attacks, and then I just rushed him down in the 2nd form because he was bullshit and could 100 to 0 me, so frick trying to parry him for minutes.

Ive died once in two playthroughs. Had a lot more trouble with lightning waifu.
Eh yeah that's pretty slow but i assume you have a dex build and tried to perfect block everything. I was using saw cleaver + exploding pickaxe handle at that stage and i beat his first phase first try effortlessly just dodging around and getting big charged hits in. Took about 3-5 attempts after that to beat his 2nd phase.
got first phase in my 2nd try then 2nd phase took me a while to learn and get there. Had just gotten that sword boss weapon and a respec to a strength build. Tried various methods with shield arm and where my openings were , how much i can attack. By the end of it the first phase only got me for like 2 hits and 2nd phase still got me all the way down and had to play really safe. Probably one of my biggest problems is just losing patience.

They accidentally dodge a direction other than right. Hes one of the hardest hitting bosses in the game. I think only door guardian will drop you faster on a per hit basis.
Not that I think hes especially hard mind you, but I can see the difficulty if you arent good at avoiding hits.
He was my hardest boss. It was his stupid flame canon that god me because I had to run to dodge them but once I ran close to him to stop the shooting I had no stamina left to fight or dodge.

The enemy variety in general is really good in this, a lot of one off encounters with unique enemies that are spread apart and arent overused. It's a good game. Nice aesthetics, weapon/handle customization is sick, ability to reset your stats, etc at any time rather than finite number of times, bosses are fun and challenging without bullshit of any kind.
The weakest link of the game is that the end game focuses way too much on the whole disease, the enemies (with the exception of the bosses) becomes very boring and predictable, and you can tell their budget was completely blown when all you get at the end is a mud-temple covered with wood everywhere and none of the more intricate structures they introduced throughout the game. Thankfully the bosses are still good all the way through.

Dragon sword is fun. The mobility it gives you and the fun timed parry on the heavy attack charge are great.
the katana is the best weapon in the game because of the integrated parry it comes with in the strong attack, however, it is quite difficult to master and pull off due to the delayed attacks
it's a high risk high reward weapon but very satisfying if you can master it

Needs better hitboxes. A game based around perfect guard can't have random hit frames. You can't actually block based on visual feedback, you have to learn from experience what is or isn't a blockable frame.

No matter how good the actual game is, is no one DISGUSTED by how much it just straight rips off the From games? I'm not even a Fromdrone, enjoyed Dark Souls and Elden Ring and I will play some of their other games as well. But this shit is weird. I am not "you people". I played DS1 and Elden Ring. Plenty to like, plenty to hate.
I mean I know there's a shitload of actual Souls clones, but the 2D ones are at least transformative. Lords of the Fallen... eh, that seems pretty generic, but brings a sort of WoW-western aesthetic to the genre and more of a focus on loot I believe. Also the new one has some neat real-shifting.
Nioh is its own thing with more emphasis on random loot, separate levels and combo-based fighting system. Jedi games suck, but still they're doing their own thing.
Mortal Shell adds an interesting mechanic.
The Surge has a faster and more flowing combat, scifi setting, and gameplay-affecting limb dismemberment.
All of these seem like devs got inspired by the souls games and worked their formula into their own game, transformed it. But Lies of P REEKS of studio execs throwing "popular shit" at a flowchart. It's so anemic - and every one eats that shit right up.

I think my critique got a little too heavy handed and unfair. What I wanted to come across was not that I'm some kind of lawyer, defending From's IPs. It's merely my sense of aesthetics and my propensity for originality what's at stake here. I don't mean to say that only original games should exist. That's neither possible nor desirable. I also don't mean that Lies of P and others like it lack all originality, but when looking at Lies I immediately thought: what a shameless copy? Why would anyone want to play this when they can play the thing it copies from wholesale? But then again, I haven't played all From games like some other anons here.
To be honest, you might make me reconsider. What does LoP offer that transforms and enhances the "Soulslike"?

I'm having a lot of fun with motivity bros. Went Into puppet King and it's really nice to be able kill the first phase in a few charge hits and have almost full health pots for Romeo. Phase 2 was frustrating but I grabbed the pickaxe handle and slapped that onto the saw greatsword blade and I had a very long reach while having a relatively fast dashing r1 to keep staggering him in 3 hits. I'm concerned about the rest of the fights if they get faster because it's difficult for me to parry Romeo and whenever I hit him it becomes a trading blow. What's another stat I should start specializing in because I've just been leveling everything but technical and advance?

How many points do you have in motivity?
So far just 20. My charge attacks hit around 1.2k when they land and buffed with shock/fire along with whatever amulet boosts the specific damage against that enemy type. The handles I use are the exploding pickaxe handle and the booster glaive handle both with motivity focus. (Glaive I prefer more but a shame it's more tech then balanced.)
Think the softcap is around 40 so I'm wondering what else I should level when I get there.

I'm having fun with motivity, nerfs aside if the only build that's viable is some fast hitting light weapon build then the games not fun. I'll take a few nerfed bosses then refight them in ng+ or something to get the orignal feel again. Ass raping difficult isn't exactly the most fun expirence.

Funny. Around the same time 2 great games were announced - Foamstars (aka Splatoon for PS) and The Last Hope (aka Last of Us for Switch). For some reason, The Last Hope had to be pulled from eShop, even after its creatror changed the title and pic so it doesnt match TLoU.

So if the sequal is going to be based on wizard of oz what kinda playstyle is dorothy going to be? Is it going to be like the usual souls stuff or have it be like the magic builds in other souls games? Never had an issue with the "le long ass combos thag last a century" till lies of P. It's difficult to get the timings right but it's probably me being a bit nervous. Elden ring is piss easy tho, I never cared there because bosses either die or get staggered In a few hits. Their long combos mean fricking nothing if 3 jumping heavys or spamming comet from the back kills them in less then 3 minutes because you also have the flask with unlimited uses to give you light rolls regardless of Carry weight. Even the sl1ing the game is easy because of the amount of tools you get. Lies of P had me try to get better at souls games again because they got to easy recently and I tha k it for that.
Those fricking infinite Laxasia combos are fun to parry though.
Scrapped Watchman NG+ was like a horrifying marathon fight alone, I had to bring in a specter because he has so much goddamn HP.
