It's definitely the best Fallout game.

This is the 3rd best Fallout game. 2 and 1 are better.

        >implying 2 is anywhere nearly as good as new vegas
lol, lmao even, I can understand thinking 1 is better (I prefer new vegas, but 1 is incredible,p) but 2 is a complete mess of a game without a direction, it tries too many things and ends up feeling half assed, that's without the factions just not being anywhere nearly as interesting as 1, the master is actually well written and interesting, he has an interesting point and has motivations, the enclave on the other hand feel like disney villains

Such a stupid Boomer opinion. 2 sucks, it's dated and the dialogue is bad. 1 and NV are kino and the only good games in the series.

I don't think you've played 1 or 2, the dialogue is not the strong suit of either. Every option is
          >yes
          >no
          >4 sentence option because you passed a check
hilariously bad implementation of skills in dialogue

I'm not crazy about it but it was probably the best of the 3d fallouts. I played the dlc but don't remember much of them so maybe those weren't great

I've played it 3 times in 10 years and enjoyed it less every time. Conversely I've played Fallout 3 three times in 10 years and enjoyed it more and more each time. I also have like 7 or 800 hours in Fallout 4 across 3 play throughs since it released.

    gee i dont know

It has a really good main quest and not much else. It's designed like fallout 2 but forced into the shitty Bethesda engine, they didn't know how to design a proper open world and should've just used hubs. Also one of the buggies/most unstable games I've played

if you dont want to waste time playing overrated games this might not be for you, is it good? kinda, is it overrated? this is the definition of overrated. but i would still recommend it, as long as you stay true to Caesar

would you reccomend something that actually deserves the praise this game got? i'll play this eventually but i would like to play something better first.

propably elden ring, it lived up to the hype imo and i convinced a friend who has never played any souls games to play it and he loved every second of it. stalker games are also worth it imo since they are cheap and short, cyberpunk is also great, launch was rocky but its playable now. i started playing dragons dogma recently and i have been having a blast playing it so thats also on the list of recommendations

It's what I recommend to my friends too.
ER has a lot of quality of life features that wouldn't filter people like in Demon Soul and etc. By the time they finish ER, they probably want to try other fromsoft games and will more likely to endure some of the older game designs unlike if they just start with Demon Soul or Dark Soul 1 for example. I can see them banging their head when they realize how long the run back in older games are.

    It's alright

People praise the dialogue options and the branching paths but just like most games, the amount of endings is pretty limited. Doesn't help that no matter how many quests you complete, they'll allways lead to Hoover Dam and the quests you complete will only influence the final cutscene

The open world is designed like a rollercoaster, everyone knows about the lottery guy, Nipton and Novac because of how the game presented the world. Also, You can't truly go out and explore since most quests are locked behind the main quest

    Speech is also outrageously broken

Do you actually want to explore the post-apocalytpic Mojave desert?

Is the lore someone invented for Las Vegas factions set in a ruined America interesting to you? Do you even like GURPS-based RPGs?

If you answered no to anything, don't play it. Play the games you like. If FNV doesn't sound appealing to you on a surface level, ignore it. If it does, you should be playing it already. Have you been to Ganker before? C"mon.

writing that doesnt insult your intelligence
+ multiple ways to approach encounters/problems
+ methods of solving problems dependent on the character you create and characters cant be good at everything
    = good rpg

It's alright, its theming and paths you choose is cool, but quite a lot is held back by a janky engine, janky gunplay, ugly ass npc models, and constant loading hell in New Vegas.
I don't see how some people sees this game as either overwhelmingly positive or negative tbh.

    >Unmodded
4/10, absolute dogshit gameplay that's worse than Fallout 3 because it adds mechanics that don't actually work properly. I don't care how good you believe the story to be, it doesn't carry gameplay that was mediocre even in 2010.

    >Modded
8/10, basically what the difference is between unmodded and modded STALKER. Fixes every problem with the physical experience and allows you to actually get sucked into the strory.

STALKER is fine vanilla. What the frick are you on about? Did you get your idea of the game and its modding scene from a Reddit post?

It's a mixed bag. There are some cool moments and it's worth it for those, but it's a slog to play. The gameplay is legitimately shit, both the RPG elements and the shooting. I'd suggest you follow the entire Viva New Vegas modding guide if you aren't a total brainlet with PCs or modding. It lifts the entire experience tremendously. Can't recommend it enough. The main gameplay mod in the guide was made by the lead dev, so it's legit.

If you must play vanilla, you still need to follow the first few sections of the guide if you don't want your game to crash constantly and perform like wet poo.

One of my favorite games of all time, but it's a pain in the ass to re-install, because of all the mods you have to pile into it.

It's inarguably above average in terms of total quality. The game's strongest point is its central narrative, which is consistently engaging and will certainly hold your attention. The side quests are also competently written, which is good because they have to carry the dull locations and drab environments. There are several endings, all meaningfully different, giving the game a lot of replay value. No doubt you've seen people on this board passionately arguing about those endings thirteen years later. However, the gameplay itself is terrible. The gunplay is frustrating, character building is uninteresting, and exploration isn't rewarding - without even mentioning the glitches and bugs. But of all the garbage on Steam, New Vegas belongs to a handful of games actually worth the time to play. So says me.

best in the series. good vanilla with stabilization mods (so it doesn't crash every 5 seconds), better relatively heavily modded. most games are best experienced modded in my personal experience

it's really fun for the first playthrough since you are still discovering the world and each factions.
Another game I would recommend as well is VTMB.

brilliant game. but if you can play it with a mod where the random encounters are increased it will feel more like a living world. Original game feels empty a lot of the time
