I mean, I've owned the game since the Orange Box, and people were not very thin-skinned in the past. I remember MANY conversations with people putting on a ridiculous persona (there was some guy who would come to a 24/7 2fort server and insist that no one should fap and then use cold water to wash them away. He'd go on long tirades about how they were soldiers etc.
No one does that anymore, specifically in the past 4-5 years people have become averse to hearing anything they dislike, even in snippets.
My question isn't why no one called me a moron for asking a dumb question, but rather why were they literally asshurt someone was bullshitting?!
It's the same way with World of Warcraft, which I don't even play anymore because I know people will probably try to get you banned for playing PVP and killing players.

I once had my own UT04 server for my friends. There was a guy who came and he would write little skits b4 giving his impression. He even included a soundboard. Sometimes the TS server got trolled and i didn't kicked them @ 1st b/c everyone had a good laugh. Stuff was hilarious!^^

I kinda want LAN parties back. They'd be easier to organize nowadays b/c people have their own place and computers are much more lightweight.
The problem is that nobody wants to go out of their way to come over any more. I even asked all the NEETbros but most of them declined.
It's like people want to drown in their misery on purpose which appears strange to me.
I think it should be said too that there are games where you might want to talk and others where you don't, like DotA, BC2, or anything tactics-oriented. But those games typically... end. Which is what makes communicating important in them, they have a start and end.
But if you join a 24/7 2Fort server, what is actually the goal of playing? You won't win, you can't win. Practice? If you want to practice just voice_enable 0. Or mute people.
Beyond that the ONLY goal is to be social or shoot the shit.
