what did Bungie mean by this?

I thought the prophets grift was to fanaticize the other races so as to have them bend the knee to blind faith while they got massive fricking guns to control the universe. but then in halo 3 it turns out that they actually were just morons jumping off a cliff for their religion

Hmmm sounds familiar... In a different universe, I imagine the prophets would have very distinct noses...

I just started playing infinite multiplayer for the first time, here are my thoughts:
It feels like a free game. The lighting is quite shoddy. The remade maps in particular look worse across the board than their halo 3 counterparts, mainly because they made the lighting so dark and brown, it all looks like shit.
343 hasn't created a single good weapon. Every new one sucks except the plasma seeking rifle, and old weapons like the sentinel beam are ruined.
I hate the fact that a lot of the maps have bottomless pits in the middle, so if you don't know the map you will definitely die a couple times like an idiot.
The armour cores aren't that annoying at all. The game gave me a few free ones straight away and I don't care about touching the rest of the customisations.
The main problem seems to be the lack of consistent lobbies. It just makes the low population even worse by making you wait an indeterminate amount of time after every game. I can see no upside to disbanding lobbies at all, it seems to be pure moronation only.
Also after games, why do two separate pop up menus flash open to track your progress? And when clicking search for a game, if you reopen the after match report then the search will cancel. To search directly from the after match report, you first need to change tabs.
It definitely feels like a free game, I cannot believe they spent 500mil on this.
Having said all that, I've still been playing it non stop for the last week and a half. Custom games have been pretty fun.
The sprint and clamber mechanics seem to be totally useless. The only reason I can see for them being included is to chase trends from the late 2010s. Ironically their attempts at modernization make the game feel more dated.

Nuh uh. Old SB felt like weak piss. New SB actually beams 'em down.

Just you wait until you learn how to do super slides. But in any case, Infinite's problems are more about the fact that the game, on release, didn't have nearly half the content of what it does nowadays. Atm Infinite is pretty good, it just should have been completed at launch. Weapon-wise you probably just don't know how to use them. The Mangler, Heatwave, Bandit, bulldog, Sentinel Beam etc are pretty damn good, way better than the pulse carbine in every single way. Only bad ones are probably the Ravager and the Pulse carbine.

If I'm remembering correctly the mangler is the Brute revolver, that's a pretty sick gun honestly.
The heatwave has the bouncing projectiles that do piss poor damage and has a slow rate of fire with crap accuracy. No idea how to use that.
Bulldog is the worst shotgun I've ever used in a videogame in a videogame. Slow rate of fire, low damage, zero range. Especially compared to the OG shotgun which is one of the best in vidya.
I can imagine the shock rifle being good but it has a learning curve.
The explosive dart launcher thing is incredibly crap.
There are I believe 2 firework launchers with slow arc projectiles. One does high damage with purple sparks and is fun. The other is red and you can charge it up to use 80% of the ammo in one shot and feels garbage.
What is super sliding and how do I do it? Normal sliding is slow as shit, being used to the slides from Black Ops 4 and Titanfall 2.

Yeah, those last 2 weapons are the cindershot and the ravager. The ravager has seen better days. Weapons such as the bulldogx mangler and heateave are good because they allow you to do 1 shot 1 punch kills, most notably the mangler. Heatwave you pretty much just need to ingore the bounce and use the alt fire. Super slides, or whatever they call them, pretty much involve you sprinting out of a low platform and timing a slide mid-air. That will lunch you forward way longer than a normal slide. It is some good fun to use. There are more things you can do with slides and all that, but most being really situational or tryhardy things to do, plenty of youtube videos out there explaining the mechanic, it is pretty easy to learn.

Elites have to be my favorite scifi race. Their armor and variants are sick, and I love how mildly autistic they are.

So how in the frick did a species that evolved strength equal or superior to that of engineered super soldiers that can flip buggies also develop civilized society? What fukkin evolutionary pressures led to that shit?

I didn't until books and other extended media shit. If they're just fun FPS enemies to shoot I couldn't give less of a frick if they're a bit nonsense societally because it won't come up or generally matter.

Who? Elites or Brutes? Elites are literally all about muh honor while Brutes are stated to be murder hobos that have bombed themselves into the stone age TWICE

Both to different degrees. I know brutes work off a pack system (an actual pack system of family clans with a silverback not a meme pack system of muh alpha dog) and them destroying their own society multiple times at least makes them somewhat legitimate.

It's a reverse John Carter situation. Or Superman.

But this is also the setting which had human beings form a massive intergalactic civilization in prehistoric times, the reverse-engineered scraps of whom form the entire armament and basis of the Covenant. Currently accepted evolutionary history was thrown out the window from the onset.

        >Currently accepted evolutionary history was thrown out the window from the onset.
Fair enough, I didn't consider the thought that parts of their development could've been artificially induced to lead to intelligence regardless of pressures.

Halo lore after 343 took over doesn't exist. It is beyond nonsensical and fricking moronic at every turn

          Anonymous

But this is the Halo lore before 343: "You are Forerunner." At the very least, humans are the only known descendants of those who built the Rings. Which is why the Prophets are so hell-bent on wiping them out. Why Truth says "I see now why they left you behind."

343 jettisoned all this and replaced them with a donut steel ayylmao.

      Could've just been an earth-like high-gravity planet.

High gravity would work to stunt their growth and make them dwarfs, not 9ft behemoths. What's more likely to mutate and be successful until finding a mate: stronger musculature at the same size taking even more calories or a more compact size with less volume for gravity to frick with? That question applies to every single lifeform including the plants so the pressures are generally aimed towards being smaller, or stockier, anyways. But there's only so stocky you can get for so much height.
If it's a matter of having high oxygenation then they're going to start making worse and worse spehss mehrines as most planets they'll be fighting on will have shittier atmospheres.

Probably the best part of the covenant is that they all loathe and hate each other. Lots of sci-fi coalitions tend to have the member species all work well with each other and be internally friendly but the covenant is just a bunch of buttholes sandbagging each other, forced to be in the same room through no choice of their own.
