2's the best one, 1 makes me wanna tear my hair out, and 3 is wasted potential. 3 isn't bad, it just doesn't do anything interesting

gow was normiecore back then but it's actually aged quite well, which speaks worse for the absolute state of videogames more than it speaks well for the games
But they are indeed fun, 2 especially. Great art direction and technical aspect too
The thing with God Of War now is that more people realize how good they had it with the first games because they were fast, fluid and full of clever ways to keep the player involved even with some drawbacks like too many QTE's. They weren't a patch on DMC or Ninja Gaiden but they were at least B+ games. They had some flaws but they were gameplay dense and were fun to roll through.
Compared to NuGOW which is fricking slow, everyone talks too much, combat is just "Worse Dark Souls with ASShomosexualS cooldowns". You start to appreciate what the old games do more.
Yeah, it's mostly because the combat was a simplified buttonmashy dmc or ninja gaiden with shoved qte's for spectacles sake
But combat is so much worse nowadays, so automated, and with endless unskippable exposition dumps, it makes you appreciate the “videogaminess” of old GOW, which wasn't afraid to have moronic crate pushing puzzles.

Nothing really unless you count the optional trials. Combat is obviously less refined compared to 2 and 3.
Good action porn games. Obviously lacking the depth of stuff like DMC and Ninja Gaiden but still good for what they are.
a bit edgy teenager games. nothing wrong with that. don't remember much about the games anymore, you hacked and slashed enemies and then you got cool cutscenes of kratos being angsty

3 is dogshit easy but 1-2 are a challenge on higher difficulties.
I love the original trilogy, 3 is the best imo.
all I know is that they look cool. 3 in particular puts many modern games to shame in terms of its art direction
The PSP titles looked great too.
Ganker shat on the original GoW games back in the day for having shallow combat but pretends to like them now out of contrarianism against the newer titles
They are better than nuGod Of War though.

I've always enjoyed them. Ganker didn't though and it was outright impossible to have a thread about them back in the day.
They're quite good. They're mechanically simple, thematically straightforward, and wholly focused on providing a very specific feeling of absolutely tearing through an environment; the action-adventure version of a mosou in some respects. No one's going to defend them as high art but they're premium pulp, and the worst part of the Dad of War games is how much that was forgotten in favor of walk and talk segments on top of fiddly crafting.
No gow was always hated here
Teenage me thought they were 7/10 games with quite a lot of boring and/or annoying segments. I haven't played them since. For reference, my favourite game was BG2 (still is).
Great games. Not as mechanically complex as DMC or NG but there's more to games than just mob encounters. No GoW game comes close to the best DMCs obviously but all three GoW games are very solid 8/10 titles. I don't like GoW and Ragnarok nearly as much. The combat and puzzles are a massive downgrade and while the story is great especially the dialogue, the pacing is very poor in both GoW and Ragnarok. The games feel like they miss a 10-20 hour section in the middle that was just skipped over.
They effectively are, it was supposed to be a trilogy. Dad of War 1 was made when that was the plan so it ends up slow and plodding, while Dad of War 2 ends up bloated and rushed to get to the end.
Combat is way to dumb but still nice gore qte

I liked them alot. The second game felt like a drag at times but the third game made up for it
i did and i still play them along with PSP ones

Really nice level designs, good audio and visual effects, satisfying progression system, story that wasn't ashamed to be edgy as frick in a genuinely cool way, which is especially refreshing nowadays
Ironically the worst part of them is the combat system. I don't mean to say it's bad, it's still very fun and cool looking, but ultimately it's just spamming fancy looking attacks with an occasional block and dodge, which sometimes gets a bit tedious with more tanky enemies
God of War 2 is one of the coolest games I've ever played. The new shit wishes it could be so good.
Never. It was always one of the most mocked series on Ganker.
The combat in 1 & 2 is actually far better than people realize, but the games are so easy that most people never bother to learn it.
