I love this game. It starts all "lol random" that was popular at the time and spins and deconstructs with an actual sneak twist at the end and character interactions that matter for a certain part.
Play it blind. It still abides by the retro jrpg rules of "grid 5 levels between every aera and keep the party levels balanced" and the grind isn't fun... But the story, environment, and weird humor make it!
Anyone else got something?
I remember a lot of girls in my crowd in highschool liking this game.
I never played it.
>Tumbler: The JRPG
frick off poser this western indie tier game was mediocre
>western indie tier game
How is this even possible when Okage is a Japanese game
It is presumably equivalent to a western indie game in quality
did you play it? it feels like it was made by western indie ''quircky'' RPG inspired by Earthbound #84257
>it feels like it was inspired by a japanese game
Maybe because it is a japanese game.
thanks for doing the hard work of keeping the price of this game low
This song goes very hard. I was enthralled with this game. For my middle school arc, I found this very comfy and the romance had me going. I would not be surprised to hear that it lacks aspects of the greats, but I just thought it was cool and some of you would probably really like the vibes.
I never finished either. I was at my friends house, and his dad made us skip an important scene. Then I got grounded for something, and the whole thing lost steam. I think I should fire this up right now.
The combat has noticably aged, and there are a lot of rough edges but overall I love this game. Here's a bit of trivia for anons who don't know. If you go into the save data viewing menu of your PS2 memory card, the save data is pictured as Stan gloating. If you go to delete the save data, the model switches to Stan groveling. I have not encountered the save data model switching for any other game I played.
Also, running it on PS5 has a lot of missing textures, sometimes all the menus are invisible. Feels bad.
Emotional Universe is one of my favorite pieces of game.music I have ever heard.
I think dante from DMC1 also has an animation like that: I remember telling my friend to click on delete to show him, and instead he clicked twice and actually deleted my savefile...
I have fond memories but the game is just so slow. Every single move of every single battle just drags
Some outlets have claimed this game possesses some sort of unique style or atmosphere. I, however, always had my doubts.
It has a Tim Burton vibe which I thought was pretty corny. Never finished it. It is firmly a B-tier game. Battle system so stock it could be done on the NES. It's really not worth your time unless the character design really appeals to you, for some reason.
It's actually funny at times, the bait and switch with Julia was pretty good.
I have a foundationless conspiracy theory that Okage is based off remnants/shares devs from Earthbound 64.
My problem with this game is im almost certain you can skip every non mandatory battle (bosses, dungeon jars) and still beat the game.
EDF5 is amazing, but don't sleep on EDF2 for the PS2, it does things that the more advanced sequels never replicated, like a fight with a truly gigantic kaiju, a centipede enemy that splits into many different units when you throw explosives at it, enemies that reflect your bullets and a bunch of unique weapons.
It also has the cutest wing diver design.
ive been itching to replay this, how's PS2 emulation these days
This game sucks. People talk about combat being trash but the real shit is how ugly the world is. There is one tileset for dungeons repeated across the game and it looks awful.
