Also, is the second game one of the greatest of all time like a lot of people say?

And should I go for the enhanced edition or the classic one?
Generally your best bet is to just stick with the enhanced edition. I would suggest trying the original controls but if its a leap too far then the EE offers more modern WASD controls. The EE can be rather buggy though. make sure to save often. SS2 might be the better one to start with is SS1 just doesn't click with you.
>SS2 might be the better one to start with
Would I be missing out on story/lore by starting with 2?
>Going to play for the first time, anything I should know and or mods/patches I should use?
Enhanced Edition 1. Feel free to use a map
>Also, is the second game one of the greatest of all time like a lot of people say?
No
>Would I be missing out on story/lore by starting with 2?
Yes
>Feel free to use a map
There's no in game option for this?
original control scheme is beyond godawful and yes system shock 2 is the greatest game ever made
>system shock 2 is the greatest game ever made
the story alone is inferior to SS1
you're on a video >games< board, champ. Who cares about a story if the gameplay fricking sucks.
SS2's gameplay is inferior too
Kek
system shock 2 is just casualized system shock 1.
>casualized
worst pseud-argument ever
ss1 isn't even a complex game, if you have trouble getting into it you're moronic
I probably like 1 more but SS2 honestly has more gameplay complexity than 1. It definitely dumbs down level design but that's sort of a relief. Citadel does not feel like a real place, it feels like a dungeon crawler map. The Von Braun feels like a real place and the game benefits heavily because of it. Other than that I can't think of much else that's "dumbed down" honestly. SS2 has RPG mechanics, levelling up, real inventory management, PSI powers. I don't know what you're getting at here.
I'm a 21 year old zoomer and I had no trouble playing the enhanced edition
You can leave notes on your in-game map, it is very useful for marking points of interest, stashes of equipment and just writing benis every now and then.
I just beat and played it for the first time. Enjoyed it quite a bit but probably not a game I'll ever play again. It laid so much of the groundwork for what immersive sims would become that it still feels relatively "modern" despite the point and click interface. Crazy for 1994.
Play the enhanced edition and get the mod that syncs the dialogue text up with the speech audio. By default it uses a different script from the floppy disk version, which is fricking stupid.
Levels are absolute mazes but you get a mini-map so it's usually fine. Everytime you destroy a set of computer nodes, write down the number that appears on a black screen in the room and what level you're on. You'll thank me later.
Riot gun is fricking useless. Make sure you use the right ammo for organic enemies vs robotic ones or else you'll be wasting bullets. Teflon for for bots, hollow points for monsters for example.
Cyberspace can be a fricking chore to explore but once you understand the controls its pretty straightforward.
In general the game can be fricking merciless with how little it tells you on what the next objective is. Even if you have all the right audio logs and emails you'll still be going WTF on how to accomplish what they're hinting at. Just explore much of the floor as you can, really think your hardest, give up and check this very hands-off guide:

>is the second game one of the greatest of all time like a lot of people say?
No, but it's a pretty good, if very uneven and unfinished horror FPS. Strangely over-rated by Reddit-types who probably only watched a YouTube video on it. Thief 1&2 and Deus Ex are much better games.
>Muh reddit
>Drops Deus Ex as amazing
Lmao
Did I say "amazing" you fricking zoomer? No, I said it was better than SS2, which it obviously is. Jesus christ the absolute state of Ganker where fricking Deus Ex is thought of as a Reddit game. I played it in 2001 on a Pentium II when you were probably still sucking your mother's dick.
Reddit likes Deus Ex more, so yes it's more reddit than SS2.
What a truly pathetic way to let a gay website like reddit influence your opinions on good videogames. You people just cannot have your own thoughts can you? You're too embarassed to be seen as "uncool" by whatever community you get your personality from.
Uh yeah dude that's the point. Are you new
Both of you shut up and frick so I can record it and sell the footage.
Hint: Number on the screen
