Is this actually good or people just pretend to like it because its a obscure Nintendo RPG?
And Elaborate on your answer none of that "yes" & "no" shit.

yes
Try it out, see for yourself, make up your own mind, stop being a drone, follow your dreams, it's the israelites.
It's short, like 20 hours tops. Just play it.
It's not ground breaking, but it was a fun rpg for GBA that was original, not a port. It had pretty clever puzzles that involved actually using your psychic powers to manipulate the enviroment, an interesting class system (though you could easily ignore it and just do "standard" compositions), and the sequel in particular was rather sprawling, opening up into an open world with a lot to explore.
The story was pretty basic and so were the characters, but it has a lot going for it. It's not the greatest game ever, but it's pretty damn great for a handheld RPG.
>clever puzzles
It reused the same five puzzles over and over over the course of two separate games.
Man, I really wish to try it just for the novelty of an earth mage MC. should I?
No. If you're asking then you're not wishing it strongly enough
it's pretty easy, it's dialogue heavy, the story is pretty cookie cutter, but it's fun. djinn class system allows you to try some goofy stuff even if you can cleave thru the game with the basic classes. if you like jrpgs you'll probably like it. if youre expecting to be blown away by some hidden gem or something youre gonna be disappointed.
the sequel is better and builds upon the good things in the first game. the ds game is dogshit.
Being dialogue heavy might have been okay if the dialogue was any good. Most of the dialogue in the game is meandering, reacting to something another character says in the most basic manner and emoting. Also there are a lot of times when characters say something or behave in a way that's sort of nonsense. The story is very basic, but illogical actions and motivations plague this game and a lot of what happens and how characters behave tend to be exclusively to just make life more annoying for the player.
The second one is three times better and much more open
Then Dark Dawn shat the bed
Its good if you like puzzles in your RPGs
The dialogue is terrible though and takes up a lot of time because every character has to chime in with nothing of value and they have to do a dumb animation every time they talk

99% of weeb vidya
It has some tough fights if you don't grind (or glitch) and the summoning mechanic is pretty unique. I appreciate the slick UI as well, it's incredibly fast to navigate through menus.
>Is this actually good
Music is great.
Graphics are good for the system
Gameplay is alright?
Story is terrible, and full of fricking filler.
Yes. Somewhat overrated just from it often being one of few JRPGs played by people who didn't touch many growing up, but it's a very solid game with some interesting mechanics behind it. Graphics were also excellent for the GBA.
Golden Sun isn't obscure. It's a classic
One of my favorite RPGs. Surprising depth of character customization through the Djinni based class system that gets overlooked by 90% of players because the game is piss-easy and you can just keep everyone aligned to their own element and/or summon rush and be just fine.
>Dialogue its simple and natural, its what some moron medieval teenagers could say in reality
>fun battle system
>fun puzzles and interaction with map elements
>one of Motoi Sakuraba's musical peaks, in a portable midi compressed console
>amazing world design for a cheap console like the gba
>nice character design (rip its creator, died last year)
>amazing graphics for a portable console of 2000's
its worth it, rayman 2 of rpgs
No
play with the difficulty patch, makes the game so much better
I'd place Golden Sun under the category of "Heavily flawed and not really all that good when put under scrutiny but a handful of people really liked it". Like .hack.
Not really, the entire game can be beaten 100% by mashing A unironically, usually people exaggerate when saying this about RPGs but it's genuinely true in GS, there's negative depth to the combat. The game has hundreds of choices and 0 of them have any kind of impact on anything relating to the story, even dialogue-wise a single digit number of lines changes as a result. It's not even a "but thou must" dialogue loop, the game just assumes you said yes even when you said no and continues completely unchanged. And while we're talking about dialogue the game genuinely has more text than War and Peace but the story makes no sense and is filled with contradictions and tons of tangents that never lead anywhere.
People like it because it was released in a climate where the last good RPG was Crono Trigger over a decade ago and people were desperate for a similar game. It was also the first RPG of a lot of people as a result of that same drought. It has a lot of nostalgia value for the people that played it back then but it absolutely does not hold up. If you haven't played it back then there is no reason to now.
it was interesting and fairly unique despite being wrapped in a shitty overall story, too many words, and 3 difficult fights in the whole duo
It's great, the only legit complaint is too much unnecessary dialogue.
Dark Dawn kinda sucks dick though but at least worth 1 playthrough if you loved the first 2. Will never get a sequel and ends on a cliffhanger.
Not gonna lie, I found it amusing how Babi was this low-key insane, power-mad dictator and the game just sort of glosses over it all. The main characters just straight up don't seem to care. It's not their problem, why should they get involved in another nation's politics?
And then the fricker just dies offscreen. I kinda wanna point out that Babi was sort of a major part of the reason the game's plot is even kickstarted in the first place, because the entire reason the elemental stones were even taken was because Kraden wanted to steal them for Babi. Speaking of Kraden, no one ever really seems to call him out for being a lying, manipulative, thieving jackass. No one cares. It's not even a matter of forgiving him, no one gives a flying frick about his motivations. Technically, the stones wouldn't have been stolen at all if it weren't for him. Now, TECHNICALLY, lighting the lighthouses was necessary to save the world, but none of them could have fricking known that when he had Isaac take the stones.
i remember it was hyped back in the day too
i also borrowing it from a friend and it was comfy..
It was my first game on my GBA and to this day I still play both this and part 2 regularely.
They aren't ground breaking, the greatest masterpieces of all time, but they are very enjoyable and comfy.
I wish Nintendo would bring out that Switch GBa emulator so I can play them again on my switch
It's a simple RPG with very little deph, however for the time it was an ejoyable ride specially for Nintentodlers baby's first RPG
I liked it
I beat both but I'd never play them again. RPGs are massive timesinks and if I'm gonna replay one, I'd rather replay a better one. I don't think I've played a hundred JRPGs, but if I did, I doubt Golden Sun would be in my Top 100.
The first one is only like 20 hours if you do everything
Sure, but that's still 20 hours I'd rather be playing something else. 'Cause there are just so many other better JRPGs. So much better.
it's really good. too much unnecessary dialogue and a little too easy but this & TLA make for an adventure as epic as you could possibly ask for on the GBA. you gotta enjoy puzzles though
Shining Soul 2 > Golden Sun
Mechanics, music and graphics are 10/10 everything else sucks, I replayed it on my Wii U a few years ago, and I was blown away by how meh the game is.
>puzzles have some neat ideas
>nice overworlds and towns
>great music
>very customizable abilities and builds
but
>puzzles get recycled hard
>dialogue is garbage, characters repeat themselves a lot
>pacing is very inconsistent
>main game difficulty is an absolute joke, you can really just plow through fights with almost zero issues
Overall just okay. Dark Dawn sucked ass.
>or people just pretend to like it because its a obscure Nintendo RPG?
That. And since Xenoblade has taken its place as The Obscure Nintendo jrpg, it died as a franchise and you really don't have to bother with it anymore.
