It’s been 22 years of Golden, and there’s no thread.
What’s your favorite game in the series, favorite character, favorite Djinn Summon, favorite music track?
Do you still wish Isaac had gotten into Smash as a Playable Character? Personally he should’ve been in Smash since Brawl, felt like his best chance, it could’ve garnered more interest in the series like it did for Fire Emblem and Xenoblade when they got characters, Golden Sun can even be considered Nintendo’s true Final Fantasy since it has the 4 guys in a row, aside from Mother/Earthbound

What was special about Golden Sun?
It looked cool on the GBA, that's it
- Incredible art style both in the overworks and in battles
- interesting dungeons with good puzzles
- psyenergy being usable in the overworld to solve puzzles was cool
- collecting djinns to frick around with the class system and use summons was satisfying
- decent enough battle system, even if on the simpler side
- decent enough story, even if it could be done with half the script
- short and sweet games that don't overstay their welcome and don't require grinding
- awesome soundtrack
- comfy
That's basically it
>- Incredible art style both in the overworks and in battles
About that...the artist is ded.
you know game are developed by more than one person, right? the "artist" could be anyone on the team
>Incredible art style both in the overworks and in battles
>The Lost Age has the best exploration and sense of adventure of any JRPG
I swear, anyone who hypes Golden Sun was a poorgay who ONLY played Golden Sun and didn't see how much it ripped off of other games.
>GBA game vs PS game
exactly. Some anon claimed that a handheld has "the best exploration and sense of adventure of any JRPG"
poorgays, amirite?
I mean, Crystal Project looks like a ps1 game and it has significantly better exploration than FF7 sooo.
>short and sweet games
How short are we talking? I really don't like games that just go on and on, and most JRPGs are waaay too long for me
Nice summary. Nailed it exactly.
It's been a long time since I played them, but they're both about 30-50 hours long. The Lost Age is longer, I think but not by much.
All the other turn based RPGs on the GBA at the time were either Pokémon or ports of SNES games
it's a very solid JRPG, great visuals/music for the GBA, weird/unique battle system, puzzle focused dungeons, brand new IP
on the other hand, it's story dialogue are braindead, many such cases
context?
the was nothing super special about it, it was just a very solid RPG that was at least 8/10 in every category and actually fun
The Lost Age has the best exploration and sense of adventure of any JRPG, solid combat with some thoughtful touches that add depth, and extremely strong atmosphere throughout. It is an absolute top tier game within the genre.
Legends of Zelda style dungeons mixed with JRPG combat and world exploration. Puzzle solving on the overworld is fun, and the combat with it's Djinn and Summons is equally enjoyable, the only parts that drag are some of the plot bits.
nothing, it's yet another generic JRPG
When I got my GBA on my birthday I was given the option to either get Pokemon Crystal or Golden Sun with the console. I thought Pokemon Crystal was stupid because it was a GBC game and I already had Gold so I went with Golden Sun. Pretty sure thats the same story for most of us in this thread.
Nothing, the series is mid. It's tied with Tales of Symphonia as nintenbabies first JRPG, so they have an undeserved amount of nostalgia for them until they go out and actually play more games.
>mid
>nintenbabies
can't get anymore snoy Black person than this
t. moronic console warrior take
It was a jrpg on the gba.
It's a decent JRPG.
muh gwaphix
The fact that the American commercial, which had nothing to do with the game, ended up getting put into Dark Dawn. And you even fought him in an opera house.
It's a very solid JRPG with great visuals, nice puzzles. Biggest issue is how slow conversations can be.
>Party meets a new character
>The entire story up to that point, which the player already knows, is told to the new character rather than a simple fade to black or "Felix explained the story"
That shit gets really tiresome.
Actually fun dungeons, I can literally only think in Golden Sun and Lufia 2 for actually entertaining dungeons.
I'm the big fat blog poster at the bottom of the thread. The dungeons were in fact very dungeony and puzzle fun like shrinking to go inside a big boss who became a mini dungeon, setting up hurricanes in the desert to fly around mountain peaks, the desert where you literally can't see shit if you don't learn the secret psynergy and didn't listen to the indian kids dance song about navigating the desert. I have fond memories but it would be such an exact use case for me to recommend it for example
>america bro it is me ESL chan in Brazil I found a flash cart that works and a gameboy advance
I know you are gay, like puzzles, and enjoy anime aesthetics you might want to try Golden Sun my dude
>wow thanks
literally 6 days later
>this was amaze good great I beat it twice
???homie you wot m8???
>is there more?
yeah a whole sequel 4 times longer and you can transfer all your shit over did you get all the secret stuff?
>SECRET STUFF I WILL PLAY ANOTHER 80 HOUR PLAYTHROUGH WITH GUIDE THIS TIME GRACIAS PUTO EL NO SABE HAMBURGER HERMANO!
y-you too
Great use of classical elements and spells that doubled as means of solving puzzle.
In battle it was the perfect "four homies in a row" game. It didn't try to be fancy, it just tried to distill and perfect the genre. Out of battle it had fun puzzle elements and let you use your magic to actually interact with the world in ways that always seemed to not make sense in other games.
>I need to fill this hole with water
>my character can use water magic in battle
>I guess I need to go find a water macguffin
whereas in Golden Sun it'd be
>I need to fill this hole with water
>my character can use water magic in battle
>my character can also use water magic in the overworld
>I use it to fill the hole with water
Yeah it was nice. There was one time in the first game where I forgot that, where you could read the minds of people to decide which chest you'd want to get as a reward. To this day I still don't know what was in the other chest, since I picked the worse one, apparently.
The mind reading thing basically means they wrote double the lines for just about every NPC, it was pretty neat.
Most of its charm comes from the presentation and action-puzzle dungeons. The former wouldn't really stand out these days but the latter is still not really done well in modern jrpgs so I guess it would have a place to specialize in.
Can only hope it'd have different writers though, the plot and scripts of the old games was genuinely terrible.
it's dead so people will pretend they always loved it
>Pretend
moron
Generic RPG that people have nostalgia for despite the gameplay being mediocre, the characters ranging from one dimensional to non-existent, and the music sounding like rejected FF1 midis.
One of the few games in the GBA that wasn't made by Nintendo, other than that nothing.
Same reason Quest 64 was special for the Nintendo 64.
And by special I mean "oh frick i'm thirsty ill drink whatever given to me"
It was like Golden Sun
but the combat required thought sometimes
>Golden Sun
meant chrono trigger
Combat required thought because if you try to attack an enemy that's already been killed you defend. They pulled the old final fantasy ineffective bullshit move.
and the optional bosses were bs too
rippen
Golden Sun's lore is limited to the games itself. Compare with other JRPGs that have animes, mangas, books, spin-offs,etc.
in Dark Dawn the lack of Mind Read is because her father hate that power
Babbie's first jrpg until Ni no Kuni
that's chrono trigger moron
PS1 quality JRPG on the GBA. It's simple now but I really loved it as a kid. Also it has BY FAR the best integration of a magic system into a world's lore building of any game I ever played. It was super cool seeing how other varied cultures and people would interpret psyenergy.
I seriously didn’t play the second game because I couldn’t figure out how to port over my save data. Is the second game as good as the first?
The second game blows the first one out of the water
I liked the more self-contained and restrained first game. Second is kino but it was annoying getting lost
Second game is bigger and better.
You could use either a link cable or the password system. Press R + Left Dpad + B on the title screen to access the file transfer system
My main issue with Golden Sun's soundtrack is that it's composed by Motoi Sakuraba.
Any single soundtrack by him sounds great. If you start listening to other soundtracks by him, you'll slowly realize how similar his tracks all sound to eachother.
I'm going to emulate the DS game on my phone to play later this week. What should I expect? Is it really that much worse than the GBA games?
Yes
I started it a few weeks ago. Maybe I screwed myself by looking into the general reception of it beforehand, but I just couldn't bring myself to care about what was going on. I didn't make it far though. Still only had three in my party.
>Felix's party > Isaac's party
That is all.
A very good point... HOWEVER
why were water characters so underdeveloped?
She sweat all of her breasts out in the desert
It made me feel funny things as a young teenager
imagine the smell
imagine her underboob
You weren't the only one apparently.
Mia was best girl. I would always make my final team just Felix's default party but with her replacing Piers.
Piers was cool, basically water Garret.
Her lines on the desert awoke something on me.
I kind of feel the opposite. In Isaac's party, both Isaac and Garet are good physical fighters, and Mia is a strong healer. But in Felix's party, only Felix is a strong fighter. Piers is the other melee guy and he's not that good. And none of them are as strong healers as Mia, with default classes anyway
Yeah, you need one of the mods which makes Piers actually helpful, I have no idea what the frick they were thinking with his character
>base classes
Well there's your problem. IYKYK.
Hmm, where have I seen these guys before?
You don't change perfection.
It's the same artist, congrats you cracked the case.
Also RIP
Is the story in SFIII any good or just a excuse for the great gameplay like GS?
That's not SF3 it's The Holy Ark.

Actually difficult, depends on the day and mood so I'll post 5.
Gonna be interesting to see how zoomers react to both games when they come to NSO.
I'd rather just have all three remade for the Switch.
>Golden Sun is brought to a new audience
>said audience might not realize it's pretty much one game split into two
>they're going to finish the first one and have to wait god knows how fricking long to be able to transfer their save data by password into the second game that isn't even officially confirmed to be coming yet
Any chances of golden sun getting the advance wars threatment?
Do you really want people to find out how shitty they are?
You are an actual homosexual if you think either of these GBA games are remotely bad in any way.
They're bad in a lot of ways, shall we get into it?
Gosh I wish
Nintendo owns the Fire Emblem IP and Xenoblade IP. Nintendo owns part of the Pokemon IP. I believe they also own the Golden Sun IP, but not certain. If they own the IP, they need permission from the publisher to make a new one or do anything with it.
Pretty sure ninty owns Monolithsoft too.
Is camelot owned by nintendo?
What about 3?
Everyones hates 3
Why? It has a werewolf
She's the only good part. My biggest gripe about the game are the points of no return that sneak up on you. The story left me with blue balls
The game does have too many points of no return but I think most of them warn you
The cliffhanger into nothing was dumb and overall the game was way way too easy besides the final boss being a random spike back up to something closer to the first two games.
>Story lacks coherence, you forget why you set out on the original quest and plot points immediately.
>Point of no returns
>Creating a new party of 8, but you barely have time to get to know and play as some of the final party members
>Point of no returns
>Cliff hanger, where unlike the original game, they didn't get the 2nd part green lit first.
>Did I mention the point of no return bullshit?a
Also the way they brought Alex back was kinda boring. He deserved better.
You know what the sad thing is, I don't think GS4 is unsalvagable, it just needs to not do what DD did wrong, namely:
>Reduce the character bloat
Since we have to deal with the Light and Dark Adept bullshit now, I think a party of 6 is ideal, one of each element. We have a games worth of a headstart for some characters, so we should use it. I think an ideal cast would be Matthew, Tyrell, Sveta/Karis, leaning towards Sveta, Amiti and a new Light and Dark Adept. Frick Rief, I hope he chokes. If IS think they can handle a 3rd new character, I'd replace the Jupter Adept, but Amiti needs to stay. He has the most to explore. I'm also thinking no new Djinn elements, we're given 60 Djinns, 15 of each classical element and have the Light and Dark Adepts work similar to the class cards of TLA.
>Remove point of no returns.
I don't think this needs much elaboration.
>Keep the plot under control and solve one element from DD.
There is a difference between introducing twists into your story and going full schizo with plotlines. Resolve (1) one plot line and don't end on a cliffhanger. DD gave you a lot to work with, so you can HINT towards what else still needs to be done, but tackle this one at a time. It's that easy folks.
I still stand by Jenna being best girl.
Fricking kino, in spite of the one mistranslation.
I can dig it
You both can yiff the frick off back to hell. I said i would be in these threads for the rest of time to curb your kind and here i am. They dont make the game any better and the whole yiffing town of furhomosexualry adds nothing to the story. I can't wait for satan to rip your arse hole a new one once you die.
>replacing the main characters with characters that look exactly like them instead of just having us play as older version of the original characters
it could have been so kino...
Oh god please no
At best, Golden Sun will get put on NSO and that's all you're getting.
What about the second one?
>Everything looks like a MacDonals toy.
I rather not
Way Forward did a great job with Advance Wars. Even if people are going to be a little b***h about the visual aesthetics. The voice acting was solid and the Remixes were godly. They even used Days of Ruin soundwaves.
>getting the advance wars threatment?
Please god no
more than likely it will be on the switch GBA titles in a year or two after SMRPG or something
>the advance wars threatment
Why the frick would you want Wayforward to touch ANYTHING you like

What does your girlfriend think if it?
She likes game BGM but I don't think I've whistled it in her presence
To this day I still remember the Venus Lighthouse theme. Really captures that "final dungeon" type of feel. I remember playing it in bed with headphones on during a school night before going to bed, good comfy times.
Golden Sun 1 and 2 were great but DS sucked monkey dick and killed the franchise.
>Silent protagonist from the first game speaks in the second when he's no longer protagonist
>Protagonist in the second game is silent despite speaking in the first
Absolute kino
in the second game is silent despite speaking in the first
It always bothered me how felix start talking out of nowhere and for the most random shit in the game.
I always assumed that was a bug. Like it was supposed to be someone else's portrait.
https://theadeptsofweyard.github.io/piers/translations.htm
No, just a simple mistranslation for some reason.
The Persona 2 duology does that
>Isaac finally speaks
>He's a fricking dick
I dunno what I was expecting but it definitely wasn't that.
My favorite part of Golden Sun is the weapon gimmicks
Sol Blade is one of the coolest swords in an RPG
>see the cool ass commercial for this game
>bought this game because of the commercial
>tfw literally nothing in the commercial was in the game
Kinda cool that the chandelier dragon made it into the DS game as a summon though
>tsundere scaly chick
>forced to kill her
It still hits hard every time I see it.
>blacksmith makes random shit with the ingredients you give him
Ha, what an butthole
It's cool looking and has some of the best dungeons in the whole genre. The story is mediocre and the characters are pretty one note, but who cares
>Back in school
>Friend got a GBA
>Wanted to show it off with Golden Sun
>Saw a couple of fights and thought it was the coolest shit in my life
It took several years before actually playing it for myself but it's a game that always brings me back to those days.
it's so funny how amazing this looked as a kid. i want to go back bros
the battle animations were so good for back then, especially after only really playing Pokémon and Mario on the gb
You ever deal a killing blow to an enemy with a Djinn that it's weak to? It makes their death animation much more colorful. I think it might increase the chance of drops too.
It's called a howling death. You also get more exp and gold.
Is that 断末魔 in Japanese?
I remember that it does improve drop rates
Sweaty Mia
Does anyone have the old Ganker comic of WRPG vs JRPG vs Nintendo RPG showing the differences between 'hey kid, wanna save the world' where you're forced to take on the quest in the first two, but Nintendo RPGs just say 'okay' and give you a game over screen?
Only asking because Golden Sun does that.

post a screenshot or nice larp
I always thought GS would become Nintendo's main RPG series but Xenoblade was the one instead. Why GS didn't became the one?
they burned all the good will GS had with dark dawn
Roadblocks aside what was so bad about Dark Dawn? I remember nothing about the story or the gameplay tbh.
>I remember nothing about the story or the gameplay tbh
I believe that statement right there sums up the problem quite nicely
They tried to shove 8 characters worth of development into one game when the original GS games were struggling with characters when they only had 4 apiece, and the plot was schizophrenic. The only real gameplay I remember that was different from the GBA games was multiple unleashes per weapon and one new summon that wasn't even relevant to the game, it was referencing the old commercial back when Nintendo made...avant-garde commercials.
Camelot makes Nintendo more money pumping out Mario sports games
Monolith Soft did a ton of heavy lifting on other Nintendo games behind the scenes so they have a free ticket to do their crazy personal projects since those also make money anyways
Now we just need Monolith to help Camelot with a GS game and all will be good again.
Full 3D remake of the original 2 golden sun games into a single game. I would buy that shit in a heartbeat
Didn't DD teached you that Gs just doens't work in full 3d? it needs the 2.5D appeal.
dark dawn was 2.5d, the gba games were 2d
>Do you still wish Isaac had gotten into Smash
Felix better Issac trash
That sea of stars demo exploration felt more like a golden sun game than golden sun dark dawn. TLA was such a meaty game it kind of ruined a lot of RPGs for me by comparison. We really didn't know how good we had things
Karis is cute. Too bad she's stuck in a shit game. Also her not having Mind Read is soulless.

Lost Age, Sheba, Judgement, and Venus Lighthouse.
It's been forever but isn't Sheba an Ayy Lmao?
If I recall correctly, not quite. My memory is pretty fuzzy by now, but I'm pretty sure that her (and Ivan as well?) fell from a place that had been levitated up into the sky ages ago.
She fell from Anemos.
Ivan simply came from Contigo and was basically given to Hammet because of the "prophecy".
Right, yeah. Like I said, my memory is fuzzy so I couldn't remember whether it was just or both.
You could argue she's an alien, for sure. Especially if she was born after Anemos was lifted into the sky.
Had to google it. So Ivan is the same ethnicity as Sheba but the Contigo people are those of the Antemos tribe that stayed on the ground. Sheba is implied to be from Anemos who somehow survived a fall from it as a baby.
It's all definitely all one big Laputa reference.
My first thought to this thread"oh shit, GS was finally released on nso", but then i read the post about anniversary thing, got disappointed and felt old. Thanks
I do have to say, one of the few kino things DD did was make this homie playable. That was a nice payoff for him getting Psynergy powers in TLA.
Yeah, making Eoleo playable was one of the few things I wanted when they announced DD and I'm glad he was. It's a shame they couldn't fulfil my wish with Himi.
>Can't give us Takeru cause he went off to help Felix, but hey here's his sister instead
>Finally get a Venus mage
>She's shit
>Only reason she even joins is so we can et not-reveal and the story doesn't do anything else with her
I have never been more disappointed.
Why they make mages a shit? Why is not more common for them to be a wall or broken? Tired of freaking sponges
The damage calculators aren't nice to mages in these games.
There's nothing to boost elemental magic power other than djinn summons and those are too tedious to constantly setup for little gain in comparison to physical classes not locked to that issue, getting actual skills that use their str stat in the damage calculation, and that's not even mentioning how busted weapon unleashes are. It's really telling just how imbalanced magic vs physical is since the only good spells are the healing and revival ones.
The RELOADED mod actually helps mages since magic psynergy scale with max PP so they don't fall off as quickly even though unleashes still reign supreme by endgame.
Honestly at this point I'd settle for a 1 + 2 remaster on Switch, combined into one game.
>Do you still wish Isaac had gotten into Smash as a Playable Character?
Yes, I wanted this so badly. Watching Fire Emblem get representation out the ass while Golden Sun got crumbs was quite painful for a while.
That Twitter screencap sure adds so much to your post, anon.

Stupid attacks and summons were so good
This and Symphonia were my first JRPG's, wanna know the sad part? No JRPG has had better dungeons and puzzles ever since, not because they are amazing but because they didn't even try
And it's doubly sad because I don't even particularly like Symphonia's dungeons either.
Modern gamers get mad at puzzles and would rather want hallways.
Except if it is Zelda, which isnt even like the traditional ones
Are you me? Story of my life as well, anon.
probably my favorite battle theme in any rpg
How'd you fare at latest Golden Sun tournament at your locals?
I want a remake simply so there can be more rule 34 made
I want to frick Mia so hard it's unreal.
I fricking love Golden Sun so much. I dont even like JRPGs as a genre, typically. Golden Sun has the best art, the best music, simplistic combat but the battle screen is the best in the genre, and some of the ability animations are so epic they lag the game, which is brilliant. Love the world, love it all. Regularly replay them.
Oh dont mind me, just being the best song in the series.
The duality of man
>Golden sun released 22 years ago
>I was 8 back then
>mfw remembering emulating it back in the day
it was a different time...
Golden Sun, specially the second one, is great because of its sense of adventure, very good dungeons, the Djinn/Summon/Psynergy stuff, the freedom in the world map and how it rewards the player for paying attention to the world (talking to NPCs, searching everywhere, taking notes, backtracking, etc.). It is one of the best JRPGs for those who want something like Zelda.
If you like JRPGs because of story/music/art direction i really don't recommend it. The dialogue writing is terrible, the art direction is passable and i honestly dislike the music, it felt like very generic anime music.
>i honestly dislike the music
I have nothing to say other than holy shit taste
Rest of your points are valid though
>it felt like very generic anime music.
this is such a bad take holy shit.
>dislikes the music
You are very brave to be holding such shit opinions in broad daylight.

>If you dont save one tree when you save people from that curse, one them regrets the other wasnt saved

Hell yeah.
why? so nintendo could ruin it with real time action combat?
all nintendo needs to do is update the graphics of these 3 games and release them on the switch or the successor of the switch. If it sells well then make another game.
Nah, Camelot needs to do shitty modern Mario sport spin offs until the end of time
Frick that. Only they can save Shining and Breath of Fire.

I wish.
I dont understand when people say DS had better library. Sure, it was good, but gba was crazy.
Gba was kinda like having a snes on hands with new games which was a dream.
Also, Sonic Advances and Battle. Pinball was also neat
Dragon Ball Advance Adventure which i love. DB Supersonic Warriors
Astro Boy Omega factor
About KH CoM, shame that is not in HD versions, a lot of people played a worse version despite a better final boss
One of the first to play on gba emulation. Heck, when Lost Age was released on japan i just played without knowing a thing. I remember facing poseidon without the trident and then i went to gamefaqs to understand i already had the pieces, but did not forged them
So much praise for a shitty games
I think that if they remake the game with the Bravely Default graphics it could work very well
Ew.
what the frick are you expecting from a remake then?
Xenoblade tier graphics?
Does not need a remake.
Stop making remakes and make new games.
please reconsider your life choices
>sol blade let out a howl

Then add re-releases of older games, like the Shining games and Breath of Fire games. God damn.

The Pokemon games plusnsome of the best romhacks like Unbound, Rogue Emerald and Radical Red.
The Kuru Kuru Kururin games.
The MegaMan Battle Network games.
L&M SuperStar Saga.
And much more. The catalogue is almost bottomless.
>LotR games
Absolutely based taste. The GBA also poached a whole bunch of titles from the SNES so if you had never played those you were basically spoiled for choice
>The GBA also poached a whole bunch of titles from the SNES so if you had never played those you were basically spoiled for choice
Cannot think of a single SNES game which doesn't have a superior original equivalent on the GBA (or original GB that can be played on GBA). GS:TLA, FE7, MMZ, Metroid ZM, Zelda LA, AW2, Aria, WL4, etc all surpass every SNES game within the same series/genre.
Yeah GBA has an S-tier library, there's a number of masterpieces along with a metric frickton of good to great games
Give it to me straight fellas, am I just blinded by nostalgia if I think the gba had one of the best libraries of all time?
Nah I'm in the middle of building my GBA rom collection and it's kino. Way better than anything sega or Sony out out at the time.
I borrowed GS from a friend back in the day. About 1-2 hours into the game I had to go to a ship and there was no way to advance the story so I gave it back to him
This game awoke some sort of autistic fervor in me as a child.
I beat TLA 12+ times using a gold level password each time to level up my character's base stats with 30 of each stat up item.
The strategy guide was my goddamn Bible.
>gold pass
>guessing if some letters are lower case or not
Oh god. I dont want to think about this again
You'll never out autism the way I played the game.
Garet was always a bro. I couldn't kick him out so I had to learn about the class system to make him actually good since his base class sucked.
Did people not fiddle with Djinn?
I bet most players who did it blind just matched elements up together and looked up a guide to get Growth for accessing the superboss's dungeon in the first game.
Unless you looked some guide to get certain classes, which were only good to certain characters, you could mess around on your own but would never be the same.
People forget that now you have access to full guides to know everything, but when the game was released you didnt know much because some people were writing first how to proceed the game and shit like djinn locations or how to get them, and in LA how to do certain side quests or how to beat extra bosses.
Better knowledge about classes came later, or random dudes that found stuff and wrote in forums or gfaqs boards
It really wasn't that complex. It was all "proportions of which djinn on which character".
Yeah you needed to find a lot of djinn to get the most out of it but it really wasn't that complex for even a child to figure shit out.
Without a guide, you'd have to brute force a lot of combinations to find something useful, especially with item-based classes.
Why would you? I beat both games just fine keeping the default classes on everyone ie. earth on Isaac/Felix, water on Mia/Piers, etc.
fun
Wasn't really fun unless you had all the djinn and at that point you were most likely using a guide anyways for the best combinations.
was it KINO?
always has been
The first time hearing that i just didnt touch the game for like half hour

I played it and the sequel at release with a guide. It was absolutely mid. As a highschooler anime weeb it was fine for on the bus and in the library but I couldn't in good conscious recommend it to anyone in modern day. For that reason I believe it will be put on the switch plus at some point. It's not a bad game it only really shines near the middle and endgame when you can play with jobs from all the djinni WHICH ARE MISSABLE. If there was a mod for all djinni from the beginning I could imagine playing it again in retirement but the sheer bog of dialogue equating to nothing happening for 80% of the game is rough. I have fond memories of it but you have to be a JRPG anime head to really want to get into it in modern day when better alternatives exist. The step count for encounters when trying to solve a puzzle the reset synergy you have to use again and again when you fricked up one of 8 parts of a big ass navigation puzzle you have to do more than one time. I like the game but I just could not recommend it in modern day when more novel RPGS exist.
Hell I would sooner recommend the tennis and golf rpgs on GBA made by the same camelot team before a golden sun title.
respectfully, my homie
>with a guide.
why would you ruin it for yourself? There's your problem.
i like the lost age. but i kind of wish we could play a much longer game with the original isaac's party. it felt like golden 1 ended just as soon as it was getting really good
Game was way big and had to be divided into 2, so, it was a good way of ending it the way it did
1 needed more sidequests though. And feels like Isaac party joins way late in LA
Yeah I wanted Isaac to get in dammit. I'm still holding out some fragments of hope even though it is tragically unlikely.

Playing Golden Sun as my first JRPG was a mistake, honestly. It basically ruined most of the level design in JRPGs for me. Doesn’t help that I played Tales of Symphonia, Tales of Eternia and Tales of the Abyss right after GS and GSTLA.
Dungeons in Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest or Megaten never were THAT good. Heck, Tales has garbage exploration since Xillia.
Golden Sun and earlt Tales games had amazing puzzles and dungeons, quite similar to old Zelda games. Only series that scratched a similar itch was Wild Arms.
Wild Arms 2/3/5 are especially great.
>Wild Arms 2
The translation makes in nearly unplayable. Maybe if I was just grinding it through an emulator at 4x speed, but I can't force myself to reread that garbage for a third time in my life.
What's wrong with Wild Arms 4? It's the only one of the series I actually played and I enjoyed it.
An Avatar:The Last Airbender game with Golden Sun-esque mechanics would be amazing.
Maybe if the IP wasn’t western.
>Avatar
Automatically trash.
Dark Dawn was unforgivably bad.
first and second game were kino.
never played the third because people always shit on it and i don't want to leave on a low note
the third one isn't as bad
but the story doesn't make much sense
seems like 3 separate stories from different writers one after another
I tried going back to Golden Sun once since I liked it as a kid, but I couldn't stand how every single character was clinically moronic.

video games blew up and became mainstream. Back in the day I thought a game like golden sun was huge because forums would splurge about it, but the reality is that Fortnite's daily revenue exceeds golden suns lifetime revenue as a series. This is why dead series like golden sun will stay dead or be bastardized upon revival.
wtf happened to nintendo rpgs anyway. all dead but xenoblade
