Nick Frost actually says "sup homies" in Shaun of the Dead. I rewatched it last night and was caught off guard, no way could they say that in a movie these days.

It seems american millenials can't really do anything right. Ever since they became the workforce, everything has gone to shit. There has been maybe 3 good movies in the past ten years. No decent american shows for ten years. No decent american video games. Its amazing really. The only skill that collectively defines them is posting complaints online about how things should be. Comiseration with people they don't know. Hell, they don't even know if its people they're talking to.

That's because of corporations. In the 90s, if you wanted to start a band you'd get some friends and embarrass yourselves on stage at some pub somewhere. These days you are basically competing against the entire LA industry right out of the gate no matter where you are in the world. American israelites control all the distribution. It's like that with everything. Talent exists, but you don't hear about them unless they own them. Welcome to late stage capitalism.

its business suit investors who know nothing about video games telling people what to make and ignoring criticism.
they dont care as long as they make a profit, which they can do easily as long as their marketing department tricks enough morons into buying a shit game.

at this point we're all just waiting for the video game industry to completely cave in on itself again like it did in the 80s.

Tolkien envisioned them as six books, but he released them as three. Further if you split each book in half they're far from massive unless you're a brainlet.

True, but they also fail to capture most of the beauty and poetry that the books are about. The third movie especially has a lot of nonsensical changes that are not only unfaithful to the book but also harmful to the storytelling of the film itself. They're still amazing action-adventure movies though, don't get me wrong.

No. They have a gross, dirty WW2 actionmovie atmosphere that doesn't fit the faerieland setting of Middle Earth. The Shire is passable but everything after than that is garbage.

There is only so much you can do to cram so much material into 3 movies, changes had to be made. Maybe a TV show with multiple 1 hour episodes would fit the show better but that's impossible now.
You're never getting anything as good as the movies if rings of power is the new standard.

Aragorn is a plank of wood in the books like most of Tolkien's characters. The reluctant hero element is overplayed in fiction but it made him an actual character if nothing else.

Archaic writing only works for things that are actually archaic. The Iliad is interesting because its a view into how the Greeks viewed the world around them.
That doesn't work when the mythology is the invention of one autistic linguist.

It's the mythology of the Middle Earth dumbass. Have you read the Silmarillion? It's literally just Greek-like myths loosely tied together by Bilbo.
The prologue of LotR literally starts with talking about how well the written record of Frodo's journey been preserved over the years and how it's been copied many times over.

Arwen makes sense because you'd never see Glorfindel or whatever his name was again after saving Frodo. It builds up her character without introducing random characters into the story. It's fine to do that in books but movies need a tighter narrative.

Daily reminder that Christopher Tolkien is in charge of the part of his father's estate that judges what is and is not acceptable in the video games. That means that everything in the Shadow of Mordor games, including the elf ghost, including mind controlling orcs, and especially including big-titty human Shelob, has his personal signature of approval. Do you anons seriously think Christopher Tolkien wielded supreme unassailable power with the Tolkien estate? He had a huge family bickering over it and various companies which already owned the rights to parts of his father's work. If he'd been free to do whatever he wanted I'm absolutely certain he'd have signed off on absolutely nothing. It's his son (with whom he did not speak for years) who's the more money driven.

Sauron's race is Maiar in the lore, Maiar literally means "beautiful" in Elf langage. So yes, Sauron was always a homosexual pretty boy. The movie also had a cut content with Sauron's face reveal, but they decided to ditch it because they wanted Sauron to always seem hideous and scary to maintain the impact. i think these kinds of bugs happen specifically because developers makes games in UE4, which basically has shit like animation blending pre-built into the engine, but because it is UE4, it doesn't fricking work right and it's a nightmare to try to fix it because you have to go messing around in the core engine shit, which is a massive spaghetti mess and debugging takes fricking forever. so devs just go "eh whatever i don't get paid enough for this shit" and give up lol

          Anonymous

They can't look under the hood when shit goes wrong. So they just brute force it and hope for the best. If something goes wrong, they just make the commands work for UE4 rather than make the engine work for the game.

There needs to be laws governing the right of publishers to only allow actual user scores. This is very obviously a bad beatup to bring people back in to believe that gaming journalists are trustworthy after the shitshow that was TotK. The game isn't actually that bad. What it is, is fricking weird. Actual glitches are minimal. It works fine. Until you turn on raytracing. Wow, shocking. I hate Americans so much it's unreal. They'll literally destroy anything that doesn't suit their crass commercial tastes. Nuke that fricking shithole already. We'd all be better off.

I honestly think the idea of a more symapthethic Gollum that was more balanced in control with Smeagol and choosing which main personality takes over could have been a really neat AU scenerio. Like the moral choice routes being Gollum or Smeagol trying to convince the other to do something is actually sorta clever and I can imagine this sort of thing working.

Why the frick did they try to make their Gollum look cute? It might be appropriate for the early adventures of Gollum when he was a degenerate River halfling with the ring, but he had been completely twisted into a monster by the time Bilbo ran into him, and by the Lord of the Rings timeline, he's practically amphibian. In the game, he just looks like a meth addict Hobbit.

      Anonymous

      >>but he had been completely twisted into a monster by the time Bilbo ran into him, and by the Lord of the Rings timeline, he's practically amphibian

No, Smeagol basically a Hobbit that became too old and too insane. He is roughly 600 years old, meanwhile age of a Hobbit is around over 100, as seen with Bilbo Baggins. Living in poor condition, with poor mental health and an extremely old body is what Gollum was. It is the game's design that doesn't make sense, is that he doesn't look somewhat humanoid like movie version. His eyes are extremely large yet his face is short and almost ape-like. This is not a meth addict Hobbit, this looks more like a baby goblin.

        Anonymous

Blibo's life was extended by the ring too

          Anonymous

It supposed to but not yet. Bilbo was still in normal Hobbit lifespan but the ring kept him young longer than he should have. Right after giving up the ring, he became old very fast and went into retirement by the ending.

            Anonymous

You're right he wasn't super old by the time he gave up the ring but was exceptionally healthy and young looking for his age when he gave up the ring on his 111th birthday and then aged like 50 years in the 17 years before he saw Frodo again at Rivendell

        Anonymous

The book describes him as distinctly monstrous in appearance and only just barely resembling the halfling he once was. IIRC it's explicitly stated that this isn't just aging (in fact the Ring stops you from aging), but being twisted by the darkness within the Ring itself.

          Anonymous

          >>The book describes him as distinctly monstrous in appearance

Actually ironic enough, the opposite. Tolkien described him as having pale skin, thin face, big eyes and he wears dark clothes with pockets and overall he has dark silhouette. Ironically more normal than what the movie made him to look like. "Extremely monstrous Gollum" was just wrong assumptions from illustrators back then, which Toiken himself had to debunk and explain the character in further details.

            Anonymous

I wasn't saying he was big. The books make him out to be monstrous in appearance, not size.

              Anonymous

              >>The books make him out to be monstrous in appearance

Where did you get that? The book description was very simple and barebones, and he is nowhere near the "extremely monstrous " like what you and reddit usually claim.

          Anonymous

          >>in fact the Ring stops you from aging

It stopped aging to a certain extend but not the elixir of life. Bilbo still aged, he only looked slightly younger for his age and had better health condition than most old Hobits.

    >As developers, we hold ourselves accountable for the flaws that hindered your enjoyment. We are truly sorry for falling short in delivering the immersive, high-quality experience we aimed for, especially within the treasured world of Middle-earth.

It's intriguing how even an AI-generated letter manages to convey more sincerity and genuine remorse compared to the actual apology from the developers. The original letter feels somewhat self-righteous and hollow, while the AI's version exudes a heartfelt desire to make amends, almost making you want to forgive them. What's even more remarkable is that the AI's fourth paragraph imparts a valuable lesson that the developers themselves failed to acknowledge.
