I think that ending is just to show that Yuma is on the prowl trying to solve mysteries to make people happy. Though it's possible this Ena girl could have some role to play in the sequel given she has her design with a number of information on her.

The problem is that the core mechanic and gimmick of Rain Code revolved around Shinigami. They could not introduce a new character unless the character forms a pact with Shinigami. With how connected Shinigami is to Yuma (romantically) theres no way they are going to just throw her to another new male MC while Yuma is still running around. Not to mention the story ends of a cliffhanger and sets up for the next game. Kurumi is out looking for Yuma and bringing the book back to him. One way or another the book will have to return to him. Yes she had a "previous" master but its almost certainly also Yuma, potentially from another time period.
Who is to say Shinigami is the ONLY death god in that world? We know nothing about her origins. There could be multiple death gods in that world.
The fact Kodaka said he doesn't think Shinigami could return as a main character already indicates he has thought of other ways to keep the structure even without Shinigami.

Is this well made? Sure. It has a servicable soundtrack, the gameplay and world replicate Danganronpa great.
The problem is those characters are dogshit. There's possibly one or two I actually like, and the voice acting makes them even more annoying to me. This game can be as well made as it wants but when there's not enough likable characters for me, it's hard to get invested in a killing game.
0 is good, but feels cheapened if you actually did investigate properly.
1 was awful, and I guessed the culprit based on something Halara said before we even began with the case.
2 was good drama.
3, you could guess the culprit based on the result of a dialogue option before there even was a murder.
4 was the game's peak.
5 was truthgay territory and I was let down by the fact that Shinigami didn't execute all of Kanai for Blank Week.
Lacks the main strength of DR: Characters. Because the actual mystery resolution plays out solely in Yuma's head, and because characters lose their memories there, characters don't get to shine. They just follow the MC around and tell him he's great. "Uggo" should either have no clue Yuma accomplished anything, or should dislike him for killing on only his own authority.
The consequences of the Mystery Labyrinth never catch up with him. It's just brought up at one point that Yuma's a killer.

Decent game, tons of wasted potential though. And I think they need to up their fricking game when it comes to graphics, models and animations, the twist partially got me cause I thought they were being lazy
It was subversive for the sake of being subversive. It has a "we had to please the fans" metanarrative in which the fans aren't pleased because it's impossible to please the fans if you're trying to please the fans. And now, the real-life fans aren't pleased.
I actually loved it and to this day believe that it filtered thousands who were too brainlet to get it. That said, I think it does hit you over the head a bit too hard with it. I think the last trial could have been 30m shorter or so.
The biggest issue no one seems to talk about is how it held back potential. It being meta meant the game needed to follow a similar killing formula and plot structure of the previous games instead of doing something new. But the ending itself is not interesting. It's basically the lazy "it was a dream" ending.
Was anyone else weirded out by the cutscenes where Miu talked about being a dog mom and how much she loves her dog. I thought all the characters were asian, not white.
A friend got me to try playing through the series and I couldn't make it through 2 out of how fricking boring it was, but Christ whoever decided that in 1 they should kill off exclusively the interesting characters and only leave the most boring and forgettable ones needs to be strung up and shot.

Those two are filler, you only need to keep the Main trio and MAYBE Touko, the other two slots would be improved by literally anyone else.
In 2 you only need to kill Sonia instead of Hiyoko, this pretty much fixes Soda as a character.
V3 is overall ok with the survivors, if they live they had a propper character arc, even if short.

Aoi was great, besides the trio, Fuyuhiko and Hajime, best survivor of all 3 games. Yasuhiro is at least funny compared to Simpda, Akane, and Sonia, and maki and Himiko, who literally tried to get everyone killed (Aoi isn't the same) and are better off dead along with everyone in V3.
Playing the second one right now on the Steam Deck. Enjoyable, but not as much as the first one. That one case where they numbered the murder weapons, but used them out of order and two of them working together really threw me.

The simple answer is Spike Chunsoft just makes amazing characters and stories. I've yet to play a single bad or even average game by them, and all are easily 9+/10 for me.

Sure there are thing's I'd change about ZTD. For one the art style sucked. Also I was not a fan of the "choose your scene" approach. I'd rather just start from the beginning and keep going until you reach an ending like the first two games. And lastly it needs an epilogue.
Those things aside it, it had very well done puzzles, and most importantly a great story. The character moments in this are the best in the series and we finally get the payoffs between Junpei and Akane, as well as Sigma and Diane. The arc where Phi dies and then Sigma and Diane get stuck for 10 months is probably my favorite moment in the entire series.

The puzzles felt like a stepdown from 999 and even VLR. The Junpei/Akane bits were pure cancer. I have no idea how you could say those were a defining moment. Carlos carried that particular group and Sigma/Diana was just meh.
They're easier but atleast Kodaka explained it was intentional. And the Shinigami Puzzle is miles better than Hangman's Gambit trash.

Not the same anon, but gameplay wise its almost indentical to DR in the way you collect evidence, then have to use the evidence to refute and put together the crime.
While I loved RC, the thing that DR has going for it is that you get introduced to 16 characters from the start and you stick with these characters until the end. The deaths and betrayals make it sadder because theres a lot of time to develop these characters. RC on the otherhand is mostly a trial to trial cast of characters, where you run into suspects and victims exclusively for the chapter and barely have time to care about them. Not Always the case and there are some characters I truly felt for in RC, but there are some victims and culprits that you simply just don't have any care in the world for because they get little to no development/screen time.

I, quite literally, had abaddoned playing DR2 at chapter 5 when I had realised that I, quite frankly, do not care about any of the surviviving characters anymore, including Hajime. (And do not care about the plot anymore). And then had abaddoned the entire DR franchise. And my mental health in the following months/couple years had worsened to the degree it was the primary reson I got expelled from the university. (Tbf I had multiple problems back in the day, but I think DR2 was the straw that broke the camel's back.)
You know what's funny? To this day, not only I didn't play/watch anything in the series that goes after DR2... I also never played 2-5 and 2-6. Yes, you read it right, I am essentially modding the game "blindly". (Good thing I have a help in it from a friend who did play the game until the end, though).

Thats my point though. So many characters die in DR that you care about because you spend the entire game with them. Their deaths have impact. In RC, or AA as you compared, you don't usually care about the victim or culprits all that much because theres not much time for their development. Sure you have your moments in these examples, but you can't say for example that you care about the victims or culprit in RC's chapter 1 more than any other character from Danganronpa since they are all unnamed characters. The victims die before you ever get introduced to them, and the priest/worshiper don't even have a name and you see them for one interaction in the chapter before doing the labyrinth.

The simple answer is Spike Chunsoft just makes amazing characters and stories. I've yet to play a single bad or even average game by them, and all are easily 9+/10 for me.

Sakurai almost exclusively adds characters from popular Japanese series, and DR is the second most popular VN series of all time. If Danganronpa 4 happens around the next Smash game, we could see it added to Smash. I'd be fine if he got added as a Mii Fighter costume perhaps if Phoenix Wright becomes the first VN fighter added.
Its the best selling series behind Ace Attorney and has 1/3 of the games. If you consider Professor Layton a visual novel series then that would beat both AA and DR, but its barely a VN.

That was literally ONE IP and even then since the merge, they've had their mystery adventure games that got sequels have a new protagonist.
The problem is that the core mechanic and gimmick of Rain Code revolved around Shinigami. They could not introduce a new character unless the character forms a pact with Shinigami. With how connected Shinigami is to Yuma (romantically) theres no way they are going to just throw her to another new male MC while Yuma is still running around. Not to mention the story ends of a cliffhanger and sets up for the next game. Kurumi is out looking for Yuma and bringing the book back to him. One way or another the book will have to return to him. Yes she had a "previous" master but its almost certainly also Yuma, potentially from another time period.
Who is to say Shinigami is the ONLY death god in that world? We know nothing about her origins. There could be multiple death gods in that world.

Is this well made? Sure. It has a servicable soundtrack, the gameplay and world replicate Danganronpa great.
The problem is those characters are dogshit. There's possibly one or two I actually like, and the voice acting makes them even more annoying to me. This game can be as well made as it wants but when there's not enough likable characters for me, it's hard to get invested in a killing game.

3, you could guess the culprit based on the result of a dialogue option before there even was a murder.

Lacks the main strength of DR: Characters. Because the actual mystery resolution plays out solely in Yuma's head, and because characters lose their memories there, characters don't get to shine. They just follow the MC around and tell him he's great.
"Uggo" should either have no clue Yuma accomplished anything, or should dislike him for killing on only his own authority.
The consequences of the Mystery Labyrinth never catch up with him. It's just brought up at one point that Yuma's a killer.

I actually loved it and to this day believe that it filtered thousands who were too brainlet to get it. That said, I think it does hit you over the head a bit too hard with it. I think the last trial could have been 30m shorter or so.
The biggest issue no one seems to talk about is how it held back potential. It being meta meant the game needed to follow a similar killing formula and plot structure of the previous games instead of doing something new. But the ending itself is not interesting. It's basically the lazy "it was a dream" ending.

Aoi was great, besides the trio, Fuyuhiko and Hajime, best survivor of all 3 games. Yasuhiro is at least funny compared to Simpda, Akane, and Sonia, and maki and Himiko, who literally tried to get everyone killed (Aoi isn't the same) and are better off dead along with everyone in V3.

Sure there are thing's I'd change about ZTD. For one the art style sucked. Also I was not a fan of the "choose your scene" approach. I'd rather just start from the beginning and keep going until you reach an ending like the first two games. And lastly it needs an epilogue.
Those things aside it, it had very well done puzzles, and most importantly a great story. The character moments in this are the best in the series and we finally get the payoffs between Junpei and Akane, as well as Sigma and Diane. The arc where Phi dies and then Sigma and Diane get stuck for 10 months is probably my favorite moment in the entire series.
The puzzles felt like a stepdown from 999 and even VLR. The Junpei/Akane bits were pure cancer. I have no idea how you could say those were a defining moment. Carlos carried that particular group and Sigma/Diana was just meh.

While I loved RC, the thing that DR has going for it is that you get introduced to 16 characters from the start and you stick with these characters until the end. The deaths and betrayals make it sadder because theres a lot of time to develop these characters. RC on the otherhand is mostly a trial to trial cast of characters, where you run into suspects and victims exclusively for the chapter and barely have time to care about them. Not Always the case and there are some characters I truly felt for in RC, but there are some victims and culprits that you simply just don't have any care in the world for because they get little to no development/screen time.
Hmm... Maybe I would try the RC out then, after I finish my DR2 mod. At least, for me it is pleasant to know that RC, most likely, wouldn't leave a bleeding wound in my mind like DR did.

Thats my point though. So many characters die in DR that you care about because you spend the entire game with them. Their deaths have impact. In RC, or AA as you compared, you don't usually care about the victim or culprits all that much because theres not much time for their development. Sure you have your moments in these examples, but you can't say for example that you care about the victims or culprit in RC's chapter 1 more than any other character from Danganronpa since they are all unnamed characters. The victims die before you ever get introduced to them, and the priest/worshiper don't even have a name and you see them for one interaction in the chapter before doing the labyrinth.
And most of those DR characters were so terrible that their deaths didn't mean shit. So really, you're not exactly helping your point by clinging to this characters aspect when comparing DR to RC. I care more for the mystery and gameplay(since it's a game) than I do the characters(which DR doesn't even excel at)
