You're bound to have contrarian morons for every single subjects.
i'd honestly prefer that to all the bright colourful pink and blue shit we see infesting the industry now
it's like someone took mirrors edge and said "yep, this game with a rainbow, this is what gamers want"
all we needed was just a bit more colour, more rich blacks, more vibrant temperatures, and a choice of filters from the options menu
instead we got fortnite and hyenas and copious amounts of pixelated indie shit
what a shit industry this one turned out to be
That's the Fortnite effect. Studios always try to copy what's popular, piss filter trend happened because of this.
>cheery picking
It was called the brown and bloom era for a reason, newhomosexual. It was also viciously mocked in its heyday. I know because I was here when it happened.
It's not contrarianism. It's people on this board now being young enough that they grew up with this trash and thus have a nostalgic fondness of it. We should've left this trash heap many years ago, fellow old man.
I like it on MGS4 and Resident Evil 5 because they are set in shitholes you'd sooner burn
And I guess GTA4 as well because frick New York and every New Yorker
Seriously this era was such utter dogshit. I'm an older zoomer and so I grew up with both PS1, PS2 and PS3 games when I was a kid. I remember being SO sad seeing how much uglier and shittier games would get going from one gen to the other. PS1 and old PC games were my confront zone and I got depressed whenever I had to look at a new piss colored green/brown shooter game. Like I was convinced gaming was dead. CRPGs died out, all shooters became CoD clones, Platformers fell off, nothing was allowed to be colorful or fun, just absolute Dark Age. Every other game was some unbelievably dogshit movie-tie in or soulless cash-grab copy. The fact zoomers and millennials today unironically try and praise this era, let alone call it a "golden age" is such laughable garbage I could never underestimate people's lack of taste again
I think the seventh gen did one thing better than the sixth, mid tier western action games, shooting and camera control was functional and fluid, you didn't have some horrible jank lock on aiming system playing the game for you. former wunderkin at least in terms of control like splintercell and re4 became the standard, I think that papered over the creative decline for a lot of people.
Seventh gen was a polishing of what games are but things near the end got too fricked up and corporate with MS and Sony going for these mega hit blockbuster AAA games and nothing else. Now generations are dead because these companies are israelited out of their minds; one company releases RDR2 in 2018 five fricking years ago and then we are getting shlop like Starfield on the fricking creation engine in 2023
I feel some people have a single brain cell screaming at them, in every scenario, to histronics. Being a contrarian is a moron's way of histronics essentially.
not him but killzone 2 and 3 were pretty cool (3 was even playable because they finally fixed the input lag) and I think RPCS3 fixes them eg added KBM support and increased FOV
i'd honestly prefer that to all the bright colourful pink and blue shit we see infesting the industry now
it's like someone took mirrors edge and said "yep, this game with a rainbow, this is what gamers want"
all we needed was just a bit more colour, more rich blacks, more vibrant temperatures, and a choice of filters from the options menu
instead we got fortnite and hyenas and copious amounts of pixelated indie shit
what a shit industry this one turned out to be
ha ha ho ho
but really blacks seem really washed out in video games these days
the last game i played with rich deep blacks was KCD, at night that game really was dark and its shadows really black as pitch
most games these days end up having shadows and darkness as just low colour temperature and turning the gamma down, it sucks
So what I’m gathering here is that it’s less about the actual style choice and more the fact that gamedevs are the laziest homosexuals in entertainment and just copy each other ad nauseum in pursuit of trends
>Colors bad!!
When used in such a moronic manner? Absolutely, dumb homosexual-kun.
All of those games use the same dogshit gay Fortnite aesthetic, it looks every bit as generic as the ps3/xbox360 era while in a way being even more of an eye cancer due to how colorful it is.
According to Google, "Alex Chen is a bisexual Chinese-Vietnamese American". But according to my memory, that doesn't come off very strongly in the game. They are just vaguely asian.
Most if not all of these are cherrypicked. If that weren't the case then you'd be able to show in game screenshots with color grading effecting the whole fricking game instead of just promo shots. Brown and bloom was something that effected EVERYTHING.
Desperate Escape from the DLC or Gold Edition was better than RE5's campaign. No vendor, no press X to not die BS, no gimmick boss fights, just pure action.
RE5's No Mercy Mercenaries mode in solo or co-op is miles better than RE4's. Tons more levels, more special enemies to threaten you, tons more characters with unique melee attacks and loadouts to choose from, it's just better all around.
>Why was the 360/PS3 era so dogshit?
low power and holding things back, for the most part
filters were what they thought was a bandaid for low resolution
Such a good gritty aesthetic. Made games look realistic and created a real world feeling in a time graphics struggled to do it. I don't miss it, I much prefer the cleaner look of games now but I look on that era fondly.
Every time a new graphical feature is developed, devs turn it too high to show everyone that they've got it. Back then the feature was postprocessing filters. The modern equivalent is putting neon lights everywhere and making every shiny surface a mirror so that it's obvious raytracing is turned on.
It never looked that bad when it came out. I think the difference is coming from the display settings. Back in the PS3 or 360 era, nobody bothered to calibrate their picture to D65, but most people were probably playing on 100K color temperature with all colors set to max.
Now, when you buy a new TV or display you look up the best settings for the TV online, which are likely going for D65. Those games that were probably designed with a totally different TV settings in mind, look like piss with modern TV settings.
Nowadays, Sony, MS and nvidia recommend to master games at D65, as this is a defacto standard now.
Good example is Nier. If you compare both games on the same display, the remake will look much brighter and more colorful. If you use vivid mode / dynamic mode (whatever it's called on your TV) for the original game and use D65 settings for the remake, there won't be too much of a difference.
Most of the games from the PS360 era look shitty on a calibrated TV though.
It was done for this lame attempt at realism, but actually just mostly to hide ugly textures. That's why 7th gen's certain aesthetic wasn't anything memorable.
Games made between 2013-2017 had the best aesthetic >colorful but not overblown. >different colored lighting used to dictate the mood of the scene >graphics were good enough to mimic a realistic/cinematic scene without much sacrifice.
Well i would agree with getting rid of color was bad and 8th gen was objectively better for that reason. Making everything washed out is something i still won't ever be able to understand. There were some minor exceptions in 7th gen of where it was creative, but very few.
>Making everything washed out is something i still won't ever be able to understand
Possibly in an effort to make video games seem more mature and realistic. Before that, video games were colorful tv toys for children.
All things considered 7th generation might be my favorite era. It at least ties 6th. There was literally something at least "wroth a playthrough" dropping every fricking week. I had a fricking RENTAL backlog. I don't know how anyone can see this time in gaming as bad. I really don't get it at all. It always boils down to. >dull color pallets existed >DLC existed >the Xbox 360 was made bad
>There was literally something at least "wroth a playthrough" dropping every fricking week.
You could say the same about every generation
The reason why you don't think the current generation compares is because you are an adult now, and during 7th gen you were between the ages of 10-17
You know I'm right.
It was bad. But unlike the current generations, at least that era still had some soulful console exclusives without the awful piss graphics >Folklore >Dragon Ball Z Burst Limit >Motorstorm >Asura's Wrath >Little Big Planet >Little Big Planet 2 >Halo 3 (like it or not, it didn't have a piss filter)
There's probably more, but I don't have them off the top of my head.
This isn't the case anymore and you'll find most of the soul in PC Gaming rather than consoles.
NTA, but I was that 12-16 during 8th Gen and I still thought it was shit. I was already in my late teens when 9th Gen started and thought it was even more shit. In terms of actual console exclusivity there was barely anything of value in those generations. Almost everything of value has been ported to PC or came out on PC first, the only exception being certain Nintendo games, but most of them have gone down in quality as well.
>the PS3 was made bad >everything ran at 10fps on PS3, 20fps on 360 >Wii had nothing but garbage, motion control was worthless >japanese studios, the only real developers around, suffered greatly >industrial scale shilling of the absolute worst the west had to offer, such as Mass Effect and Halo, later on movieshit >it went on for far too fricking long
The 7th generation saw a great decline in quality of several companies and franchises, Naughty Dog, Insomniac, Sucker Punch, Capcom, Konami, Bioware, Devil May Cry, Resident Evil, Legend of Zelda, Metroid Prime, Metal Gear Solid, Grand Theft Auto, Mega Man, Silent Hill, Fallout, Ninja Gaiden, Ace Combat, etc. It was the generation where most AA studios died or reclined like Clover or Treasure. Western online multiplayer games with skinner box elements like Halo, CoD, and Battlefield rose to absurd popularity and flooded the market with yearly, iterative, predatory sequels and set the groundwork for unfinished games with cut content DLC. The first production Xbox 360 is the most dysfunctional console ever made with an extremely high rate of failure. Shitty waggling/Kinect/Ps Eye gimmicks were constantly pushed and all aged terribly. David Cage games rose to decent popularity and cemented his role in the industry. Game budgets bloated to a ridiculous degree. Overall it was terrible, Japanese games heavily reclined in favor of trying to appeal to the west and Western games stopped focusing on fun to focus on being more cinematic/realistic like Uncharted or GTA, or heavily casualized itself to appeal to a wider audience like Elder Scrolls or Bioware.
>Naughty Dog, Insomniac, Sucker Punch
this reads like sour grapes to me. You can question the path naughtydog took overall but uncharted 2 was them at elite status, infamous was a high quality open world game, an expansion of Sly, Insomniac was still creating pixar level mascot action games.
7th gen was bad because games had a more streamlined and moronized structure, simplistic gameplay etc. compared to games from previous years. There was NOTHING wrong with 7th gen aesthetically or thematically.
My problem with 7th gen was how casualized everything has become. It took Dark Souls becoming popular for devs to start making more challenging games after that period.
Ganker will defend this because the majority of Gankers current users were 12 when these came out so this was to them "the last bastion of good vidya" even if this was literally the start of everything wrong with games as we know them now.
>>with filter >dry, arid, sickly, unwelcoming, uneasy, unpleasant >builds to the tone of the game and its theme

Example #4243325 of someone butthurt about filters exposing themselves as a double digit IQ pissbaby.
>>>with filter >>dry, arid, sickly, unwelcoming, uneasy, unpleasant
yeah dude every horror game needs a color filter to be scary and you totally need to have a piss filter to have a dry, arid, sickly, unwelcoming game
western games on the PS2 were kind of really bad, outside of sony's stable and rockstar it was wall to wall shite or maybe a 7/10 if you were lucky. The xbox was distant loser but getting scraps from PC games it was in a somewhat better place. In the seventh gen that PC port practice from the xbox came into the mainstream, stuff like dragon age origins, battlefield bad company 2, fallout 3, skyrim, human revolution, etc. would have seemed like a revelation to you if you were a console only user coming from the ps2.
I had already moved onto to PC at age 14. I lucked out because console gen 7 truly was the beginning of the end. Very few good titles or franchises came from 7 and beyond. Notable exceptions might be Souls, Dead Space, Mass Effect, RDR, and... I think that's it.
Plus I got to miss on on CoD and Halo cancer and played Valve games and mod maps instead.
HD resolution finally being feasible + new trend of making things "photorealistic" + GWOT middle eastern conflict vibes that dominated media in the mid 2000s = brown textures with yellow filters and plenty of bloom to go with it
DE HR is the only game I can think of that really had a piss filter. The rest of the games posted here are just brown n' bloom garbage. I couldn't play RE5 back in the day because it looked so fricking awful.
>if you don't like my heckin lovely piss filterino goyslop of the time you are zoomer that plays le purple modern goyslop!!!
Why are millennials incapable of not misrepresenting their opponent's argument?
most wanted and RE5 look MUCH better without the filter, I have no idea on why devs insisted on that garbage
Because you have no taste
>people are so contrarian now they'll genuinely defend this ugly bullshit
it's why you can't take anyone's opinion here seriously
You're bound to have contrarian morons for every single subjects.

Only brown-eyes like that shit. Same reason they complain about cities finally getting right off piss-colored streetlights.

Wait, RPCS3 has KBM support? Even for Killzone 2?
yup there's a mouse injector that works with many emulators but I haven't tested how good it 'feels' yet
albeit now that I think about it Killzone 2 had the meme sixaxis used for opening some gates and shit, I'm sure there's a workaround though
Wow, six video games…
i'd honestly prefer that to all the bright colourful pink and blue shit we see infesting the industry now
it's like someone took mirrors edge and said "yep, this game with a rainbow, this is what gamers want"

>Your life is pretending ugliness is cool, you ghoul.
you are literally doing this right now butthole
Post one of those unhinged animatronics you just "romanced" in your "RPG".
I have no interest in BG3 and find larian obnoxious. I also hate vhs filters and faux 80s nostalgia as an aesthetic.
Why do these all look better than the current benchmark targets?
style > ultra realistic photoscanned slop
took devs a few years to realize that a heavy color grading like that only works for 2 hour long movies
>be PC player
>simply mod out every piss filter
good times
Most Wanted is the only color filtered game I'll forgive, and it still should have been a less intense filter. It should have been subtle.
Because the "troon and zoom" aesthetic is so much better

Aside from the poster art, Life is Strange: True Colors doesn't actually feature colors like that.
The game looks rather muted and hazy.
Which origins does she have? Chinese?
According to Google, "Alex Chen is a bisexual Chinese-Vietnamese American". But according to my memory, that doesn't come off very strongly in the game. They are just vaguely asian.
A good rule of thumb for any collage like that is to assume whoever's posting it hasn't played any of the games in it

It was done for this lame attempt at realism, but actually just mostly to hide ugly textures. That's why 7th gen's certain aesthetic wasn't anything memorable.

Love Timeshift. Simple as.
The resistance alien looks really funny if you don't zoom in because his two pairs of eyes look loke one big pair of really goofy eyes.

I still play RE5 to this day on/off when I'm bored I'll just join a random guy online and complete the entire game just for fun.

because 7th gen had no good games
1. That has nothing to do with color palette.
2. That is fake news.
Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, Nier, Deus Ex...
Literally the worst generation of gaming. No other generation was worse than the 7th gen.

yeah dude every horror game needs a color filter to be scary and you totally need to have a piss filter to have a dry, arid, sickly, unwelcoming game
>game is set in a desert
>OMG WHY WOULD YOU TRY TO MAKE IT FEEL DRY AND ARID??!?!?!??!
My bad, double digit IQ was overshooting it by a lot.
Uh oh you have alerted the zoomers that grew up with this shit
You homosexuals do realize that seething suicidally about heckin brown filters in vidya is internet age millenial and zoomer shit, right?
western games on the PS2 were kind of really bad, outside of sony's stable and rockstar it was wall to wall shite or maybe a 7/10 if you were lucky.
HD resolution finally being feasible + new trend of making things "photorealistic" + GWOT middle eastern conflict vibes that dominated media in the mid 2000s = brown textures with yellow filters and plenty of bloom to go with it
I never really noticed the piss filter back in the day until Deus Ex Human Revolution.
Why do desaturated color palettes make millennials piss and shit themselves?
it's a very cheap, glib stylistic technique, it's boring and depressing.
>SOVL filter
Far better than the WHACKY ZANY vibrant colors we have now. I wish I could turn back time...
Dead Rising was the last good 6th gen game.
piss filters sucked for the same reason this sucked
uh wait a second guys....why does the thing I like have a brown n bloom filter?
GUYS!!?
I miss the slime effect that some games used to have like halo 3 in the gravemind level
