Dark Opus weapons are basically guaranteed since one of the preorder bonuses for the captain is a sword and there's no way the model isn't getting reused.
I'm hoping for a pendulum system though, especially if it will let you add bonus effects to SBAs.
At the very least I think that the weapons will come with something like war elemental by default, Catastrophe is extremely strong.
My main hope is that the weapons are locked behind a material trade via the blacksmith, the bahamut mines were okay but I'd prefer being able to directly make my shit instead of being at the mercy of RNG.

What do people who dislike damage cap think it would change?
Now you can run 100% damage skills, and either A) the boss is deleted instantly vs. quickly, or B) morons with no defense die even faster and force you to delete bosses before they suicide your mission

Everyone would be obsessed with DPS regardless. What you want is high defence, which would force DPS racers to drop cap up for more midifiers and even be dependant of buff and debuff to reach cap. Also different kind of cap ups, like you could build a Yoda to not do much damage with his normal moves but do loads of skill damage if there was a cap up dedicated to it

Nobody is going to be using level 60 attack or level 30 tyranny in the current state of the game anyway.
It works fine in pre-5th gen MH, and also in 5th gen if you don't mind crit meta being mandatory.
If we wanna get nitpicky crit being mandatory started with MH Generations reverting Weakness Exploit to adding 50% crit again (instead of +5 to monster weakspot values) and introducing Crit Boost

A full chain of SBAs gives you 100% link time by design. It's the way you should do DPS checks if you're underpowered.

I know these images are a really bad and not representative of a character, and I know that the "honors" system is really wonky and tends to favor weird shit like Vane bubbles and what have you, but my basic trajectory after playing this game a significant amount of time was MC (forced), Charlotta, Siegfried and then Ghandagoza (now). I think he's the most well designed character that I've tried even if he's not the strongest, and he can certainly hold his own. I don't think he's really in much of a different class of power unless you compare them to glitched characters or characters that only really do well with RNG against a sandbag.
I'd run a parser if I could be bothered but I'd rather not. Maybe I will for a little bit just to see how good he really is.

I seem to get this question a lot which seems to indicate there aren't any good primers. I might write one up under the Steam guides. It's annoying to try and post sigil loadouts because you can't capture them all on one screen and you can't see the plus skills without hovering. I've got 166 hours right now clocked so I don't think that my setup is realistic for most people without a similar amount of sigil investment (probably my best sigil is the crit rate + damage cap).
Skills are counter, gap closer, party attack up (not for the buff but for the quick 30 percent meter), and slow.

Stun is nice, but not at the expense of damage. Because the bosses get immunity to stun for far longer periods of time than they are stunnable. And usually during those windows it's trivial to instantly fill the stun gauge even without stun mods.
It's really easy to stun any boss without any stun bonus as long as your team isn't braindead
Instead of a cooldown they should've made consecutive stuns take exponentially more stun power and then have it reset when you break their overdrive
Stun breaks parts and overdrive bars faster so its not bad

They cap at 60 or 65, usually when you hit Proud difficulty. Most would say wait until you get your main character's Terminus weapon though, gives you a better chance of it dropping.
zeta skills and sigils?
Spear of Arvess and Vengeful flames are core.
You can fill the other two spots with Infinite Wonders for a semi-spammable ranged option that also applies her debuff, Wingclipper for high potential damage that paralyzes, but is kind of slow and needs to land the third hit for the paralyze, Realm's Majesty for a skill parry that has a longer window than her regular parry, or Rain of Furry for a skill that does about half as much damage as Wingclipper but comes out MUCH faster.
The parry is good not because the extra window, but because it shits out a lot of damage on your way up combined with a lot of movement as she basically flies to the enemy no matter where he may be. The extra window is basically the least noteworthy thing about it.

More than strong enough, he's very easy as long as you remember to shoot the yellow stuff in the sky with the turrets.
Pyra-A is vastly more a DPS check thn Proud Baha ever is. The latter's more of a mechanics dance that you can cheese via 2 bursting it at key moments and forcing link to trigger. Pyra-A is legit just having enough damage to burst down the crystals so you're not being elemental spammed left and right along with it always going into Overdrive 24/7 shaving off 20% of your max damage output so you really want full damage cap by that point.
I've run into a couple of random parties that have failed Proto Bahamut's DPS check so far. Which is really sad, but I've stopped initiating SBA chains and Link Time now if damage output is low after a certain point in order to prevent it.
Even if you can't kill every crystal leaving only Fire for Pyet makes the fight way easier since you aren't getting stunned or frozen constantly
Is it even possible to destroy all elemental crystals at the beginning (not Firefly ones)? I looked to me that it just consumes the last surviving one.

ferry's bugs have nothing to do her being reduced to jump spamming. the reason why she jump spams is because she's tuned/balanced terribly and her ground combos and pets have very low caps. but the bugs like umlauf don't really change how she plays

stack as many attack mods as you can, less is more is good because you unequip all your skills. concentrated fire is very good and should be your go-to sigil, after that, try stamina, tyranny, less is more and then maybe berserker if you're feeling ballsy. rackam's jump y/triangle is extremely hard to cap so you might even do more damage dropping 1 dmg cap sigil for more attack mods
then just jump -> y/triangle -> dodge -> y/triangle -> jump and repeat

These 3 were beasts. Did 5 or 6 proto baha runs with them and got 3 of the weapons. The Narmaya got a higher and higher score each run, that by the end of it all I dropped to 900k while she was at 1.7 million. We managed to also chain 5 bursts, 2+2+1, due to Rackam's insane meter generation.

Her pink stance has wide aoe normals that also move her around and double as gap closers. Her pink finisher has a frickhuge AoE too. You'll admittedly want to switch her skill loadout for slimes if you're going to exclusively be grinding them (assuming that you don't have Cresent Moon slotted in, since most people run Kyoka/Transient/Setsuna/Pink Petals) but otherwise she can genocide them with ease, especially if she's geared.

Okay, so I've geared up a few characters, and they all hit the maximum possible DPS with this stupid cap system. Now what? What am I supposed to do in this game? Because boss fights feel like just a rush mode, attempting to beat whatever endgame boss in less than 30 seconds. It's not like monster hunter where even when fully geared, the bosses were somewhat fun to fight and lasted long enough to provide a challenge.
