So I'm on the "Final Chapter" of the game, and given what happens on the way to the boss...it's safe to say that Gallanza and Maglielle are coming as future characters, right? Hopefully they're free, if they do paid DLC for characters, I'd rather it was people on the gacha and not in the game already.

29597 is the damage my Cag does against the Proud fire dragon with her first combo finisher. Still missing 30 levels of damage cap but it is fun to see all that damage pop up at once every time.
Been enjoying Id. Working through the extreme quests now. It is kind of a shame that quick quest just seems to mostly put me in low level shit, makes me not really wanna farm it very much. I tried queueing for the quests I have to do and it takes forever. It is faster to just do the extreme quests with my AI party members that are like 6k power level.

In my experience your damage caps out really quickly. The only way to reliably see is to just beat up the barrel without damage cap sigils in and then keep adding more until your numbers stop going up.

It was one of the earlier chapters I think, but Katalina just says "sou da ana" and the english text they gave for that was like two full sentences or something. It wasn't memey or jokey but it was just fluff that didn't need to be there for such a simple line
I’ve noticed a lot of it seems to be fluff, with more than a few added puns throughout (usually from Vee, Rackam and on occasion Io). Some memey stuff crops up as well, more than I would like but less than I feared tbh. The Fate Episodes are gutted, almost all of them have every line simplified or condensed

Him, Narmaya, Katalina techincally and Gran all have this play style of building up a resource that boosts their skill power, but his is particularly egregious due to how long his combo loop is, the fact that after one skill he loses all shroud marks (don't know if there are skills to mitigate this, due know there is sigil that basically MIGHT let him keep his shroud marks) makes me think that he needs to be equipped either with Hymn of the Hundreds or his parry skill at all times to build up Triple Shroud marks effectively.
To me, it feels like the most viable of these characters that expend resources on skills is Narmaya.
Yoda has various way to increase his shroud quickly, if you use his Y counter button properly you can quickly use his ender, and you can use his ender too after link attack.
And during link time, he retain all of his shroud even after you using skills, making him basically a link time monster if you timing his skills correctly (this is where his triple shroud install skills came for, since you can end the cooldown of his skills instantly when you got three shrouds already)
SHOULD I BE UPGRADING MY SIGILS? I HAVE NOT TOUCHED THE SIGIL UPGRADE MECHANIC AT ALL SINCE I SAW THERE ARE TIER I II and II, and possibly more, so i dont want to waste resources right now upgrading tier IIIs and such.

For Katalina I just use 3 attack skills + the mandatory Full Ares gauge buff to keep my infinite ares combo

Ever since I saw that boxart I knew he was going to be playable.
He might be the writers' favorite, or maybe it's just the people that got absorbed into Cygames from Platinum going full CUHRAZY and making a rival character that is cooler and more fun to play than the main character.

The Relink story is a glorified Sidestory Event and Id just happens to be the featured Guest. Gran and Djeeta's real power level is astronomically high and has to be squished down or else they'd wipe out any story tension by themselves.
His first character was a guy called Ezecrain who was looking to get revenge on the people who killed his clan. This would be expanded in the event Violet Violence which is basically an nothing event which we find out it was caused by the group known as the Foe.
The event was not well received and never got a rerun and was released as a sub story with little fanfare. The Foe would latter become the Moon people and Ezecrain was not included in the event where we fight said moon people.
The event focus character is always the actual protagonist. If anything this is a shockingly non-guest-focused event for GBF since it actually has the captain talking and his posse doing shit.
I hope Noclip does a documentary about Relink's dev cycle. The reason it took them like 8 years is because they had Platinum siphoning this game's funds into something else, then they poached Platinum talent into Cygames proper, then they switched from Unreal or whatever the demo from 2016 Platinum to a Cygames inhouse engine, then rona hit, and that fricked them up.
If you're being generous, proper development of this game began in 2018.
If they ever make a sequel they have a good skeleton to base it of now at least so in theory it shouldn’t take nearly as long assuming they don’t try to revamp it completely.
This game sold well, so the chances are likely.
If you want a game that'd cover the entire gacha's story, however, you'd need to wait for EoS of GBF. It'd be based if did a cliffhanger EoS for the gacha and made the REAL ENDING exclusive to their game, but they know better than to piss of their fujo fanbase and possibly get KyoAni'd.
But then, it'd be impossible to please everyone because no way in hell are they making every single noncrossover gacha character playable.
Tbh, after playing through this game I think there's no chance in hell Cygames is going to stick with the shity png sprite collector and not start doing more relink. I think it's insane that their first 3D game turned out this good, the talent they've poached from SE and Platinum is next level.

its an amazing game and a rather unique one, as its a strange amalgam of MH and Xenoblade, just need to work on the story, and god damn the fricking english VA, half the cast are alright, and the other half make me want to die.
I just wish it wasn't in development hell and found its identity better. I welcome the story being so short given it's rather boring, but for being coop boss battler the enemy variety is kind of pitiful, and bombastic cutscenes aren't as important as not fighting the same armadillo boss in 3 recolors. Most of the characters also seem basic without much to their movesets, even if there are a lot of them total.

The biggest problem with making boss killing games like monster hunter seems to be that players go into it with ridiculous expectations about the number of bosses, it feels.
For how much work was put in each boss, I think it has a very good number, like other anons have been mentioning, now that they have a base, they can work with it, too.

There are plenty of sorta mid bosses like the armadillo or the big skeleton, or the lava snake (god I am so bad at remembering the names). I think they mostly blew the budget on having amazing cutscenes for bosses, but it's not the right direction when you're expecting the player to fight them 100 times in the post game. Monster Hunter in general feels like it has much more expansive boss behavior.
As I said it really feels like the game's meat is just constant boss refighting, but they preferred having a bombastic cutscene for the story rather than having two bosses of similar complexity in the game but with less flash. So far we are supposed to get like 3 content updates and apparently nothing much after unless they greenlight an expansion.

Sharing skeleton is sort of a meme if the boss is sufficiently different otherwise. Even gold/silver raths despite being technically recolors have a lot of moveset changed up not to count as a lazy subspecies.

Less versions than Raths have. Regardless, the big bosses in this game are all wildly different from each other, while even elder dragons in MH reuses a huge amount of things from each other. I'm not judging one or the other for what they do, I love MH as well, but bosses made in the way relink did them is just infinitely more work, but I at least believe them to be worth it.

Again this is just about how to disperse the budget. Practically no Elder Dragon in MH fights the same so sharing is fine. At the end of the day it's either that or showing up with fewer bosses overall. Some decisions are also just stupid like the MHW team spending a huge amount of time just getting Zorah to work when it was a glorified cutscene fight.
Depends how well the game sells. Wait until they start announcing sales numbers. It hasn't been a week yet since release. If Cygames tweets "X MILLION SOLD" and keeps doing that for a while, I think a sequel or expansion are guaranteed. Because you don't just build a team, engine, studio, etc for one game and stop.
I keep hearing about the damage cap. Is it a particular number or does it change from character to character? I love charging big fricking hits but if Vaseraga's going to get gutted by damage cap that's going to suck when I start hitting it. If that just makes slow characters strictly worse than fast ones it'd completely invalidate the entire slow playstyle and I'd hate that
you won't really get "gutted", getting dmg cap up and supp damage is just a part of GBF progression. start looking for those in itemization and Extended Mastery when it comes up.
supplemental damage is an extra hit on your hits, btw. so it's another damage instance and therefore another way to get around dmg cap.

I'm not sure how to answer that. His attacks are slow, so they'll naturally be bigger numbers than someone with a bunch of rapid ones. He also has a burst phase and strong self-buffs etc. But how much damage someone does is heavily dependent on how you built them.
Someone recommended Percival 3 days ago and I have no regrets. You use your 4 skills and follow that up with an uninterruptable charge for a big hit. It's fun. Maybe vase is on a similar level seeing how he has invincibility and life leech, well see.

The chance of getting a transmarvel sigil that has both unique sigil skills is even lower than I thought because you can also get a unique sigil with a random normal skill as a secondary instead.

Getting the most optimal gear possilbe in this game is extremely grindy and there has yet to be an endgame challenge that actually requires that level of minmaxing. If you want to be full minmax autismo right now you need >weapon dropped randomly from final boss for your character >said weapon needs a million rare mats to upgrade since it is also a weapon that has 10 awakening levels >optimal unique sigils are from transmarvel which is pure RNG and has about a million possible results >actually upgrading sigils to the max either means doing a million quick quests to get gold medals or grinding even more mats >regular sigils also need to be legendary with 2 useful effects >must have 4 damage cap sigils

Well, in the gacha game, the angel boy that is coming march was the hugest filter in the game and had people b***hing about difficulty for years, to the point they promised the next endgame fights would be simpler.
The whole fight is basically a dps check, if you don't kill the crystals fast enough you get shit on, and there's a dps check at the end but if you got there then you won't have an issue with it.
This is what Tales games should have been since Arise. Remove the crappy dungeon puzzles and add more grand set pieces. Battles should be seamless and full of action, I shouldnt have to go through loading screens between trash mobs. If you're also going to remove local coop then add online coop.

You can also see them from any survival quest but they're very rare. If you want an afk spot you can do it there since it's not possible to use journo mode on Maniac quests.
Rolan is almost guaranteed to be playable since he has battle banter with the rest of the cast. The bigger question is if Maggie and draph dude will be too, and if they bring back Lilith since we didn't see a body.
Narmaya being the shitter character is a shame because a high level Narmaya does absurd damage. Having one destroy each crystal almost instantly against Proto Bahamut is quite fun to see.
It's interesting how many animations are similar to the fighting game. Gran's boot/DJ's hop kick are the same, a lot of Siegfried's stuff is the same, Percival too.

Very, he can't get knocked out of timed attacks, his buffs are some of the most useful in the game, and he does very good damage.
Giving everyone 70% defense is a lot, and immune to debuffs is very good since debuffs are what will often get you killed in some proud stuff, the drain is just a bonus, also he's pretty easy to play after you've done a few runs with him, you can even abuse dodges to keep your combo
All of the boss mechanics and hitboxes are client side so even with the laggiest jap your ability to play isn't impacted
There's a large enough timeframe for all of the combo mechanics built in so you never miss them for lag
The only thing you might notice is someone else being hit and their HP bar lagging a bit
online is packed right now it been packed for a few days most people are starting to hit post game but you can always post a room here and people will join
I play this on my PS4 with Wifi that comes in from another room and things are so smooth that I can perfect dodge every attack. There is legit no lag in fights.

I always do that too. Got a maxed out improved dodge sigil so I can just endlessly dodge all those spinny laser type attacks while everyone else either bubbles or runs around like crazy. The timing is so generous.
I hope they add lots of expansion packs with characters and bosses to the game but FKHR said he wanted the game to be "full package" so they might not update it much outside of what was already announced. Maybe sequel with larger cast is still on the table at least, or they see how big the game got and chance plans

The tutorial for block seems misleading. Red attacks are blockable, it's just that it's more likely to break your guard, not always. Also it will still reduce the damage. I feel like this misunderstanding is why a lot of people don't block.

Those problems will always exist because Japanese is an embarrassingly limited language when you convert it to English and strip out cultural context (and a lot of Japanese dialogue is just very plain to begin with) and English has a moronic number of ways to communicate any given idea and cultural expectations that people won't keep saying the same phrases.

Been enjoying Id. Working through the extreme quests now. It is kind of a shame that quick quest just seems to mostly put me in low level shit, makes me not really wanna farm it very much. I tried queueing for the quests I have to do and it takes forever. It is faster to just do the extreme quests with my AI party members that are like 6k power level.

In my experience your damage caps out really quickly. The only way to reliably see is to just beat up the barrel without damage cap sigils in and then keep adding more until your numbers stop going up.

Honestly I feel like I messed up by upgrading the regular ascension weapon instead of waiting for the final weapon to drop since a free 100% damage cap is massive. 45k health is still enough to not instantly die.
It's kind of a waste of time to upgrade ascension weapons but I did it too, at least you get a cool glow until you get your weapon to drop which could take like 200 runs lmao

I’ve noticed a lot of it seems to be fluff, with more than a few added puns throughout (usually from Vee, Rackam and on occasion Io). Some memey stuff crops up as well, more than I would like but less than I feared tbh. The Fate Episodes are gutted, almost all of them have every line simplified or condensed

The game is good/fun. The translation is bad. Though its bad in the original mobage too, but feels like they kicked it up a notch in this one. Unsure if it was done by their usual team, or Xseed since they published it. Costume censorship is minor (panties to spats and black voids), but I'm typically an absolutist on censorship.

Yoda has various way to increase his shroud quickly, if you use his Y counter button properly you can quickly use his ender, and you can use his ender too after link attack.
And during link time, he retain all of his shroud even after you using skills, making him basically a link time monster if you timing his skills correctly (this is where his triple shroud install skills came for, since you can end the cooldown of his skills instantly when you got three shrouds already)

For Katalina I just use 3 attack skills + the mandatory Full Ares gauge buff to keep my infinite ares combo

I haven't really tried Katalina, but I like that she seems to have among the more robust combo possibilities.
However, like Gran she is also a jack of all trades kind of character, so I don't really know what are good loadouts and builds for her. For Gran/DJ, it seems they can fulfill the roll of tank better than anything else, but for Kat? Is she mostly DPS?
I'm not at endgame yet, but I can't imagine him being very viable for endgame. Him, Narmaya, Katalina techincally and Gran all have this play style of building up a resource that boosts their skill power, but his is particularly egregious due to how long his combo loop is, the fact that after one skill he loses all shroud marks (don't know if there are skills to mitigate this, due know there is sigil that basically MIGHT let him keep his shroud marks) makes me think that he needs to be equipped either with Hymn of the Hundreds or his parry skill at all times to build up Triple Shroud marks effectively.
To me, it feels like the most viable of these characters that expend resources on skills is Narmaya.

The reason you use it is to cancel endlag from your finisher and go straight back into the combo, none of the other skills let you chain into your combo.
Yes, he's trash without doing it, it's pretty easy though, the only annoying thing is trying to do it during chain bursts.

His first character was a guy called Ezecrain who was looking to get revenge on the people who killed his clan. This would be expanded in the event Violet Violence which is basically an nothing event which we find out it was caused by the group known as the Foe.
The event was not well received and never got a rerun and was released as a sub story with little fanfare. The Foe would latter become the Moon people and Ezecrain was not included in the event where we fight said moon people.
The event focus character is always the actual protagonist. If anything this is a shockingly non-guest-focused event for GBF since it actually has the captain talking and his posse doing shit.

I hope Noclip does a documentary about Relink's dev cycle. The reason it took them like 8 years is because they had Platinum siphoning this game's funds into something else, then they poached Platinum talent into Cygames proper, then they switched from Unreal or whatever the demo from 2016 Platinum to a Cygames inhouse engine, then rona hit, and that fricked them up.
If you're being generous, proper development of this game began in 2018.

I just wish it wasn't in development hell and found its identity better. I welcome the story being so short given it's rather boring, but for being coop boss battler the enemy variety is kind of pitiful, and bombastic cutscenes aren't as important as not fighting the same armadillo boss in 3 recolors. Most of the characters also seem basic without much to their movesets, even if there are a lot of them total.

The biggest problem with making boss killing games like monster hunter seems to be that players go into it with ridiculous expectations about the number of bosses, it feels.
For how much work was put in each boss, I think it has a very good number, like other anons have been mentioning, now that they have a base, they can work with it, too.

There are plenty of sorta mid bosses like the armadillo or the big skeleton, or the lava snake (god I am so bad at remembering the names). I think they mostly blew the budget on having amazing cutscenes for bosses, but it's not the right direction when you're expecting the player to fight them 100 times in the post game. Monster Hunter in general feels like it has much more expansive boss behavior.
As I said it really feels like the game's meat is just constant boss refighting, but they preferred having a bombastic cutscene for the story rather than having two bosses of similar complexity in the game but with less flash. I feel the same about all the other game modes probably nobody will be touching much and only for mindless grind if ever.

Sharing skeleton is sort of a meme if the boss is sufficiently different otherwise. Even gold/silver raths despite being technically recolors have a lot of moveset changed up not to count as a lazy subspecies.

Less versions than Raths have. Regardless, the big bosses in this game are all wildly different from each other, while even elder dragons in MH reuses a huge amount of things from each other. I'm not judging one or the other for what they do, I love MH as well, but bosses made in the way relink did them is just infinitely more work, but I at least believe them to be worth it.

Again this is just about how to disperse the budget. Practically no Elder Dragon in MH fights the same so sharing is fine. At the end of the day it's either that or showing up with fewer bosses overall. Some decisions are also just stupid like the MHW team spending a huge amount of time just getting Zorah to work when it was a glorified cutscene fight.
Depends how well the game sells. Wait until they start announcing sales numbers. It hasn't been a week yet since release. If Cygames tweets "X MILLION SOLD" and keeps doing that for a while, I think a sequel or expansion are guaranteed. Because you don't just build a team, engine, studio, etc for one game and stop.

I keep hearing about the damage cap. Is it a particular number or does it change from character to character? I love charging big fricking hits but if Vaseraga's going to get gutted by damage cap that's going to suck when I start hitting it. If that just makes slow characters strictly worse than fast ones it'd completely invalidate the entire slow playstyle and I'd hate that
if your attacks start doing the same exact amount of damage every hit, you're at the damage cap
basically, don't bother with damage cap at all untill you drop the secret weapon for a character, have fun grinding the last boss 100 times
you won't really get "gutted", getting dmg cap up and supp damage is just a part of GBF progression. start looking for those in itemization and Extended Mastery when it comes up.
supplemental damage is an extra hit on your hits, btw. so it's another damage instance and therefore another way to get around dmg cap.

I'm not sure how to answer that. His attacks are slow, so they'll naturally be bigger numbers than someone with a bunch of rapid ones. He also has a burst phase and strong self-buffs etc. But how much damage someone does is heavily dependent on how you built them.

Getting the most optimal gear possilbe in this game is extremely grindy and there has yet to be an endgame challenge that actually requires that level of minmaxing. If you want to be full minmax autismo right now you need

Rolan is almost guaranteed to be playable since he has battle banter with the rest of the cast. The bigger question is if Maggie and draph dude will be too, and if they bring back Lilith since we didn't see a body.
Narmaya being the shitter character is a shame because a high level Narmaya does absurd damage. Having one destroy each crystal almost instantly against Proto Bahamut is quite fun to see.
It's interesting how many animations are similar to the fighting game. Gran's boot/DJ's hop kick are the same, a lot of Siegfried's stuff is the same, Percival too.

Very, he can't get knocked out of timed attacks, his buffs are some of the most useful in the game, and he does very good damage.
Giving everyone 70% defense is a lot, and immune to debuffs is very good since debuffs are what will often get you killed in some proud stuff, the drain is just a bonus, also he's pretty easy to play after you've done a few runs with him, you can even abuse dodges to keep your combo

The tutorial for block seems misleading. Red attacks are blockable, it's just that it's more likely to break your guard, not always. Also it will still reduce the damage. I feel like this misunderstanding is why a lot of people don't block.

I may be the only one who loves it. It's so fricking moronic it's the only thing that kept me invested in the stupid main story quest, just waiting to see what cringy quips would show up.
I don't like the cringy quips but I hate the bland story even more. It's so sappy and melodramatic even compared to a lot of other JRPGs. I'm glad it's short at least. Also crazy that the best characters are all either villains (the sword midget and the buff axe dude) or NPCs.(Rolan and the blue cat eared lady)

20+ years later and we have the same problems Skies of Arcadia/Eternal Arcadia faced. English is basically ad-libbed per scene.
Those problems will always exist because Japanese is an embarrassingly limited language when you convert it to English and strip out cultural context (and a lot of Japanese dialogue is just very plain to begin with) and English has a moronic number of ways to communicate any given idea and cultural expectations that people won't keep saying the same phrases.
There's no hope because the gacha players have already lost all their brain cells from grinding guild wars that they defend the shit out of this trash localization and the censorship

you enter sniper mode and shit tons of dmg, with potentially sigil to boost grenades and hostility down is pref, additionaly you offer tons
on utility with heal, para, dispel and def down
