Sniper is a scary ability under the right circumstances. It's supposed to combo with Snipe Shot, but it really should have been higher than 80 BP.
Snipe shot should have a higher critical hit chance, so that it guarantees a critical hit in combination with a Scope Lens without the need of Focus Energy. That would be a neat gimmick, but as of now if you're running a scope+focus energy set anyway, Snipe Shot becomes useless.
Snipe shot does have increased crit hit chance it's just not listed. But you need 3 crit stages to get 100% crit.
The problem with this mon is that to be good, you have to set up with the crit boosting move.
He has shitty bulk and 120 speed isn't enough to secure it. Also you have to use a special item for him again for the crit. If he had an ability like Mimikyu where the first attack would be tanked, I think he would have potential, but it's just GameFreak lashing out for 2 gens in a row for the Greninja love.

Not really, players are specialists - goalie, right back, striker (akin to pokémon being TYPE specialists, elemental affinities with one or two types) so a pokémon able to cover MANY type affinities would still be the same as a defender canny enough on the ball to play defence-splitting passes and racking up goals and assists in numbers comparable to midfield contributors.

Don't know what to tell you, scope lens + focus energy on randbats is one of the most annoying sets out of all starters, next to subseed venusaur/sceptile, so maybe sniper isn't such a bad ability for it
