It's fantastic, and awful, and terrible, and amazing, at the same time. Mods polish the turd and take some of the rough edges off, but can't fix it. I checked fully modded youtube vids to see how people can max the game out, and it's still a bit ugly and filled with glassy eyed zombies (just with bloom nad HD textures).
In an alternate universe, Obsidian made a deal to use the Stalker Engine to create some western RPG shooter with a similar storyline. If anything, the Fallout aspects are the least interesting parts of New Vegas.
I play it unmodded except bug fixes. You are a turbo zoomer if you need "graphics" or "reshade" mod to enjoy old games.
Frick that shit I have a beefy PC so I'm going to download every single graphics overhaul and ENB to make the game look like shit but because it's demanding it'll be amazing. Then I'll do my standard sneak explosive run and then quit when I run out of dynamite trying to kill everybody in Primm.

I feel sorry for you. Quantity ≠ quality. Mods have always been a meme.
It's not the graphics per se, it's the glassy eyed zombies that inhabit the game and not a single mod actually addresses that. So you get HD texture reshade zombies shambling around (and I'm not talking about ghouls but regular NPCs). And the gunplay is pretty weak, which again, mods only tweak it. Nothing fixes the underlying problems of the game because you'd have to re-write so much of the engine to properly fix it and even after 14 years no one has done that.
I still stand that New Vegas is a terrible-amazing game at the same time, mostly held back by the worst gaming engine we've seen in mainstream gaming.

What game devs need to do is stop building movie simulators about feminism, and get inspired by gems like New Vegas.

It's not modernizing: The Stalker games were from the same era, and just flat out played better. Better more efficient engine, and not being limited by consoles certainly helped. But they lack rpg elements that I also like.

Writers are women or feminists who watch tv and twitter, and have no writing background. New Vegas is clearly inspired by Tabletop campaigns, and is written like one. They should play more tabletop games for inspiration, especially being DMs and creating stories.

Guys, isn't it a little bit exageratory to call Fallout: New Vegas the BEST game of all time. I enjoyed the game too, and it is one of my favorites, but come the frick on, is it really the very best that there is? Besthesda stans are a cult.
Yeah it's a very fun RPG. But it is now impossible to discuss on Ganker due to Discordgays immediately spamming "TROON TROON TROON" like npcs whenever they see it.
Troons make more sense when you realize they're just unloved outsider aspie nerd boys who have adopted a "female" persona to be seen as worthy of love and attention. They adopted New Vegas as part of Trans identity, despite women generally not caring for that game, and it being an aspie male favorite.
So it's inevitable that anti-trans then use this to shit post since they saw blood in the water.

Help me out of this pickle pls. I like the gameplay in 4 better but the writing is obviously superior in NV. I don't feel like modding NV for hours on end to bring it up to par and stabilize it, any good quest, story, or writing mods for 4 to improve it in the mean time until Fallout 4 NV comes out (years away). I don't have 76 and probably won't buy it unless its on sale.

You should play something else because Fallout 4 received an update like two weeks ago that FRICKED EVERYTHING UP dramatically, to the point where it's STILL not fixed. In two more days, they're doing another update too which will most likely frick with things even further.
It's a shame too because Fallout 4 has tons of modballs available (modballs are a series of mods bundled together to work perfectly that a user can just drag and drop once).
Until Fallout 4 Script Extender gets properly updated and people update their mods, there's no point in playing unless you already had a run going and used a downgrader.
