Team Fortress 2 survived for way longer, Titanfall 2 released between CoD and MGSV and died very soon.
Also Titanfall 3 was dismissed for fricking Apex Legends, a dumb cashgrab to profit from the Battle Royale hype.

I wouldn't say tf2 survived. it's fun to talk about but not fun to actually play (and never was). they had about the same number of actual humans playing the game, I'll have to point that out

As long as it has an arc, is fast enough to not get completely outclassed by hitscan weapons, and a decent explosive radius with good damage, you have a grenade launcher.
The counter to explosives should always be range, it should lose to close and extreme ranges. dominating midrange with proper projectile leading is kino, noob tube was a blast for fricking people camping behind cover or taking out a sniper covering an open area, make you feel like a mortar.
Best grenade launcher will always be TF2 for best combo of spamability and decent direct hit skillshots, loch-n-load was for gays

Noob tubes are very unsatisfying to get kills with.
A good launcher is easily outclassed by hitscan weapons unless you're very good at aiming them, otherwise it ends up being spammy, a crutch or both - either way unfun to play with or against.
